This what I was responding to, not any particular article or website.

I can only offer 2 bits of advice: 1. Fish like you normally do. Don't change your ways because it's a tournament. 2. HAVE FUN!! Anything beyond that is out of scope for your first tournament.

I guess you could say I'm part of the "in" crowd, although I never aspired to be one. I don't win a lot of tournaments, don't have a TV show, nor am I a "known name" locally. I just happen to have a website that reaches the masses, and have been fortunate enough to meet some very fine people along the way. Oddly enough, I'm often asked to keep the bleeding edge baits a secret, which I do. But I'm asked for feedback and/or help in promoting the products when they hit the market. I do provide feedback when asked, but will only help promote products I believe in. As it was mentioned earlier - stay true to yourself and your morals/ideals. People will recognize that and naturally gravitate towards it.

Wow, I'm humbled. To see my name inline with the great legends of the sport - even as part of a joke - is stunning. In the words of the great Garth: "I'm not worthy!" LOL! That's because the former is fact, and the latter is gossip. The respectable sites won't assist in spreading rumors. The sad fact is, stories, gossip, and outright lies are conjured up and spread around when events like this occur. I have no clue why anyone would be motivated to stoop to such low levels. Maybe some people can't relish the great accomplishments and monumental moments in our sport. But making stuff up serves no purpose to further the sport and promote its image. It really disgusts me. I'm proud to run a site that doesn't participate in such antics.

Well, you don't have to worry about this one. It won't even make landfall in the U.S. In fact, it won't amount to anything more than a few riptides and "strong currents" along the coast. It's already been downgraded too. I guess Fox "news" *ahem* slightly over-stated this one. Oh...surprise!

The most common cause of holes is people resting their bags on the ground while waiting to weigh-in. Not only is that bad for the bags, but it's terrible for the fish - particularly in the warmer months. Great way to rapidly raise the water temps in the bag, thereby causing needless stress on the fish, potentially contributing to post mortality. Be a man and hold the bag. :

Do you approach a day differently when you're fishing a tournament vs. trophy fishing? If so, how?

Depends on the time of year. Right now, forget about the flats and sloughs. You have to be right IN the channel or right NEXT to it on the drop. Fish bridge pilings, for instance. Look for sharp drops right into the channel. Also, marinas can be good sometimes. As for baits - flish plastics (tubes, grubs, spider jigs, dropshots), topwaters and rat-l-traps right now. And in the summer, I don't have clue where the beefy largemouth go. I've searched for them and can only find their babies. Your lures and locations will change in the spring and fall.

Just to clarify - I wasn't joking about the Lions. I think they have a (remote) shot at pulling a Fins/Falcons-style turnaround and surprising everyone.

By "surprise", I think you mean teams that will make it into the playoffs that didn't last year, and may not be on everyone's radar. So with that definition in mind, here are my picks in no particular order: Bears Texans Seahawks 49'rs Chiefs My REAL long-shot surprise team? The Lions.
