  1. What's up, i'm going to be replacing my top water spinning rod this weekend and was wondernig what the best length would be. I'm fishing out of a 10 - 12 foot jon boat so room is not abundant (probably the reason i still throw a spinning reel for top water). Gander Mt. has their Elite series rods on sale for $40 and they have a Med. Heavy 7 foot spinning rod there but I was thinking 6'6'' would do me better for top water. just thought i would get some opinions AnglerMangler
  2. What's up I have a BPS Extreme rod that had the tip broke off and shortened it by 4 inches. I received this as a gift and was wondering if there was a way for me to get this replaced or not because i didn't buy it and don't have the receipt? AM
  3. What's up everyone? I just had a quick question. The lake that I fish quite a bit has become vastly over grown with weeds to where about 1/3 of it is cut off to boats (even jon boats). What I'm wanting to know is how would you guys fish a lake like this? I've tried throwing spinning baits, lipless crankbaits, carolina rigs, shaky heads, jigs, surface plugs/poppers, shallow swimming baits, and buzz baits. The only one I have caught a fish on in the last 2 weeks is the surface plug/popper, I have had hits on the lipless crankbaits as well but the hooks get covered in weeds that the fish don't get hooked and this also prevents me from really covering water and finding the fish. So...I was just curious as to if you all had any suggestions for me in this situation. Thanks AnglerMangler
  4. the thing that i don't get is when i start looking at Loomis rods (as i really freaking want one) they litterally have a rod for every TYPE of fishing, and i don't mean every type of FISH. I just dont understand how a rod can be specifically designed to fish oh say a Carolina Rig, or a Shaky Head. I just think that they're really trying to get people to buy more than what they need by putting the Rig it's intended for on the rod. I may be wrong and PLEASE correct me and inform me if I am cause i'm really curious about this. AnglerMangler
  5. cliff, have you considered snap swivels for your braid? i know they're not the strongest but i have caught 5 and 6 lbs bass on my wonderful ole' ugly stick with a quantum inferno spinning reel and i believe 10 lb test cajun line with a snap swivel that i got from wal-mart. AnglerMangler
  6. whats up everyone? 1st post here as well. I went to cabela's over the weekend and bought me a baitcaster to try out since i've always used spinning reels. Anyway, i bought a Cabela's Tournament Fish Eagle 2 (expecting it to be $50) i was pleasantly surprised when i got to the check out line to be told it was on sale for $29.99 so I check out with my new baitcaster spooled by the guys at the reel counter with 10lbs tess mono and my fiances new trigger spin rod. So we go home as we were out of town visiting my brother in st. louis and we wake up early and hit the lake by about 7 or so and i set my adjustment knob for my lipless crankbait take my first cast and what seems to be right as the lure hits the water, bam birds nest. So, i chalk one up to in experience, untangle the knot and reel it in, re set the tension knob which i thought was odd to have to do but i get it set and i cast again and as the lure is about 10-15 yards from me in the air BAM a HUGE birds nest. Work on it for a bit can't get this one out so i talk to my fiances dad who fishes BPS baitcaster and he gets it untangled with his knot picker and trys to set the resistance on the lure and the speed never changes and as were messing with it i notice that the knob will hit a spot click and loose all tension and i didn't say anything and about 2 minutes later he asked me if i noticed anything and we both decided the mechinism was probably broken but he went ahead and just tossed a cast out into the grass and before it hit the ground got a massive birds nest. I was just wondering if this was a common problem with these reels as i'm sending it back to cabela's to get a replacement just didn't know what to expect when it got here. thanks all
