  1. How hard to setup? And does Humminbird offer a in hull transducer for their side imaging capabilities? Thanks!
  2. Awesome thanks!
  3. What are some good color schemes for alewives? I have never fished in a lake with them but planning to. I really don't know that much about them. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
  4. Welcome! I'm in Salisbury NC fishing the Yadkin Chain.
  5. Welcome! I'm in Salisbury and fish the Yadkin chain.
  6. Welcome! I fish the Yadkin chain. High Rock, Badin, Tuckertown, Tillery. Never been to Norman. Would love to go. I may be fishing the BFL next year and the first tourny is at Norman. Maybe we could possibly get together and fish.
  7. Can anyone tell me if the Spro 4" BBZ-1 Swimbait is out yet? I heard it was released mid-October but all websites are saying pre-order. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
  8. All the fish including one smallmouth were caught in the Yadkin River. The Yadkin River flows in High Rock lake, then Tuckertown lake, Badin lake, Falls lake, Lake Tillery, then out to somewhere I don't know. The Yadkin River, I am fishing about 10-12 miles upriver from the main lake of High Rock lake. I am in Salisbury NC. Mostly sumerged stumps, fallen trees, brush along the river as far as I can go and small rock to large boulders through out the river bed. I try to concentrate on the few rock ledges/bluffs that are in the outside bends of the river. The river is mostly 3-7 feet deep. Once you get to the rocks they shoot down 10-26 feet in places. All of the rock bluffs/ledges I have found have slow to moderate current hitting them, being the outside bends of the river.
  9. Shaw Grigsby - He looks like he's out there just having fun. He's excited about the fish. And it doesn't look like an info-mercial. My opinion.
  10. That's what is hanging me up. The coloration. Every fish chart I've looked at points to spot. But the markings don't match up.
  11. Welcome! I have fished in Iraq in front of Saddam's Palace in Baghdad. I wouldn't sugest eating those. US Army. We used a stick, string out of some 550 cord, a safety pin for a hook and MRE meat. Ugly little critters. Anyhow, welcome!!! I am from Salisbury NC.
  12. Instead of asking about the whole spotted bass stuff above. I moved it to the "General Bass Fishing Forum" knowing this was the Smallie forum. Thanks for help! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1225252598
  13. I caught this bass in the same location as these other two fish. I am pretty positive this one is a spot. The markings help out on this fish. The other two don't have the markings. A friend at worked mentioned that possibly all three are spots and maybe the difference is male and female. Any thoughts?
  14. Here is a picture of the lighter bass in the pictures. They both had the tooth patch on their tounge. I took a picture of the inside of it's mouth just so I could reference to see what kind of bass it was. I ran my finger over it, it's definately teeth.
  15. Here's my reasoning. According to the NC game identification chart. The top fins are "spot" fins. The small mouth with the jaw bone not going past the back of the eye. The scales on the base of the fins. The patch of teeth on its tounge. I could be wrong but I don't know cause I have never caught any until today. Help me out. Thanks
  16. Could someone please tell me what kind of bass these are? Im thinking spot??????????????????
  17. I caught a limit of spots in the river today but no smallmouth. Here is the only spot I caught that had any markings on it. These are spots right????
  18. The fight was awesome I thought I hooked a 5 pound greenhead. I was throwing the jig on 12lb P-line that I normally pitch docks with. Mr. Smallie felt it neccessary to pull drag off like he was trying to dig a hole the through the river floor. It was awesome. I am definately infected with smallie fever. FREAKIN AWESOME! ;D
  19. Thanks! My buddy at work seems to think it was a freak instance and I'll never catch another one in Yadkin River. So apparently (to him) I caught the only one in the whole Yadkin River.
  20. I caught my first smallmouth today. I've heard rumor of smallies in the Yadkin River but way farther upriver. Well now they are down towards my parts and I have smallie fever. I was fishing an outside bend of the river off of a rock bluff that dropped into 12 foot of water. Had a little current coming off of the bluff . I threw in a GP spider jig on a stand up head and hopped it down the edge of the bluff. Well here comes Mr. Smallie. Only 14in 3/4. Still a keeper but most of all a smallie. Took a picture and released. ;D Another question. Before I caught this smallie. I caught a bass that Im really not sure if it was a smallie or a largemouth. I know it sounds stupid. But the fish was half solid green w/ a dirty white belly. It had a very small mouth. No stripes or markings of a smallie or a largemouth. It had largemouth colors but smallmouth head and mouth. Was it a smallmouth?????? With this being my first day I ever caught a smallie, could this fish have been a smallie? I didn't take a picture of that one. I threw it back but if it was a smallie it was bigger than the one in the picture. What do ya think?
  21. Has anyone ever fished Fonata Lake in the mountains of NC for smallmouth? I am going the end of October. The water levels there will be dropped around 50ft to account for snow melting and runnoff. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. If you haven't fished there the lake is ultra clear. Like you can see 30ft down clear. The majority of the lake has some kind of rock on it, huge ledges and drop offs. Water temp should be around 40-50 degrees by the time I get there next month. Where do I start? I fish for largemouth 99% of the time. I am experienced in a good number of techniques. Smallmouth are a different animal if you will. Any tips or advice on how to start looking for these brownheads? Thanks!!
  22. Just wanted to thank everyone for your input. I applied all I could today fishing. Caught them a little bit of everywhere today. Had roughly 16lbs. Caught a 5 pounder and a 4 pounder deep. The rest were flipping brush or schooling on windblown points. Great day of fishing...............FINALLY! To bad it wasn't a tourny. I honestly feel if it wasn't for Bass Resource and all I've read and gotten advice on, it wouldn't worked this well for me today. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Fighting a bass depends a lot on what you're catching them on. If you catch them on a jig with pretty strong line, have your drag decently tight drive the hook home and haul'em in. If you catch them on a lure that has treble hooks. Say a shad rap, deep crank, top water something of that nature. It's a little tricker. You don't want to horse them around because the hooks will tear out or the bass will throw them out using the lures weight to sling it. Keep your rod tip down to help keep the fish from jumping. When a bass jumps they're trying to shake whatever it is out of their mouth. My first reaction is to skull hook them and water ski'em to the boat. Not to good. Relax, keep the slack out of you line and the usual.....practice practice practice.
