The Olympics
Yes. We were in San Diego visiting relatives at the time. Actually it was the border town of San Ysidro, just south of San Diego. Everyone but me went to Tijuana. I stayed put and watched the hockey game.

Call Me Maybe
Hey! Watch it now. The missus and I are less than three years from the big 5 - 0. Have you ever pondered that our vision starts to go when the wrinkles start to show? Corrective lenses, curse or blessing? You decide.

The Olympics
Looking back, I would say I lost interest when they started the "Up close and personal" features of the athletes. There is so much going on they do not need those fillers to take up air time. I'd rather watch tiddlywinks than the up close and personal bits. There are more events than they have time to broadcast, though the interactive options may have changed that if you subscribe to the provider.

The Olympics
You are not alone. I can take 'em or leave 'em. I enjoyed them years ago, but sometime along the way I turned into an old fart. The only thing that has me mildly interested is the competition between Phelps and Lochte. Don't think I could give you a name of any other participant off the top of my head.

Is This A Good Trolling Motor?
I've got the 70 or 75 pound thrust Motorguide on my Z-8. It's the same unit I had on my Z-7. It's a five speed unit, and most of the time it's on 1 or 2. The only time I boot it up higher is if I want to move a hundred yards or so and don't want to fire up the big engine. Is your 14 footer aluminum. If so, you'll probably use more battery life fighting the wind than I would on my 8. I know I drain the battery a lot faster on my canoe with a 50 pound Minkota on windy days. I agree with you going to the foot control. It lets you spend a lot more time fishing since your hands are free to use your fishing pole.

It depends. In my case, it might make me feel better about myself. Sorry LM.

What do they want to be called? I'll bet Ghoti will try to leave his wife home for this one. I hope Keri is paying attention. Sorry Glenn, unlike my wife, I know yours spends time on the forum.

Has Anyone In Mass Been Asked By Dnr About Lead Usage Yet?
I already told you and Grampa, it's because you have guilty faces. Not been checked yet. They did pass me on the Merrimack Wednesday while fishing at the I-93 bridge. We waved to each other as they went by. I was being a good doobie and wearing my pfd while fishing. I'll bet they were impressed.

Call Me Maybe
All I want to know is, will they be attending the road trip to Pickwick? If so, do any of them need a ride? I know I can get away with this because my wife never visits the forum. I'll call them Maybe, or anything else they want to be called.

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
The starter should be deactivated unless the engine is in neutral. The switch could be in either the throttle/shift control, or at the linkage on the motor. The motor can easily start in gear. The propeller, due to the gearing and the relatively slow starting rpms, will provide very little resistance to the starter. Once upon a time motors had no reverse, or neutral for that matter. They were started in gear. Some required you to wrap the starter cord around a groove in the flywheel. Later models had recoil hand pull starters that automatically rewound the pull cord around the mechanism. I had a four cylinder Mercury KG9 Thunderbolt 25 hp engine. It had a suicide throttle on the tiller handle. That is the type you squeeze and, if memory serves, a "lock" at the end of the tiller handle to hold the throttle in position (including wide open). No neutral. Start and go. It was possible to start that beast in the wide open position. It was strictly hand pull starting. The gauge on the front is a fuel pressure gauge. The knob to the right is a pump to manually build up fuel pressure in the tank, not unlike the older OMC two hose fuel tanks.

The same is true of seige and sieze, or is it siege and seize?

More Silliness Regarding The English Language.
But it's still a problem. The so-called ring finger is in the middle of the middle finger and the pinky finger, which makes the so-called middle finger an outer finger. The middle is the center, and in the middle of the four fingers is a gap. The middle finger and ring finger are mirror images of each other, positionally speaking, since each has two fingers on one side and one on the other. If you consider the thumb as a finger, then the middle finger really is the middle finger. The problem is the thumb or big finger. See the problem? We have a big toe, but I've never heard the thumb called the big finger, except by me in the prior sentence. I can understand the little finger being so named. It's the smallest. The ring finger has traditionally been where we wear a ring. Even the confusing middle finger I can somewhat understand. But the index finger? I'd love to hear the rationale. The index of a book tells you about its contents. A drill index is used for measuring drills and determining their size. I cannot figure which applies to the index finger.

Now see, you've proved my point. The "ring finger" is in the middle of the middle finger and the little finger, therefore the middle finger cannot be the middle finger. And who named the little finger the pinky finger. It's the same color as my thumbs and the six other non-pinky fingers.

More Silliness Regarding The English Language.
Do you have a toothbrush? If you do, which tooth do you brush with it? If you brush them all, shouldn't it be called a teethbrush? Is your thumb a finger? If you answered yes, then why do you only have four fingernails and one thumbnail on each hand? We have a little finger, a ring finger, a middle finger, an index finger, and a ..................................thumb. Why is the middle finger so called? It ain't in the middle of the four fingers. It's only one of two middle fingers. It's odd, but you'd need an odd number of fingers for it to be in the middle.

Pa Boat Registration Stickers
You can use them for things other than boat registrations. Use 'em on a mailbox for example. Name and/or street number. If you want something a bit different, go to a sign shop or a place that does graphics. They can make your registration number in any color, and outline or shadow it. Simple to apply. Line it up. Press it on. The letters and numbers will be in a perfect line, perfectly spaced and they will last longer than the typical peel and stick number and letter decals. I had it done to match the NITRO on my boat. He could have slanted the numbers to match the NITRO on the boat, but I decided against it, just in case.

Eastern Mass Get Togethers - 2012 Season
We need to check with the Environmental Police to make sure the ramp will be open. They close it when there is a regatta on the river, or if there is a problem with the barrier of blue barrels that are stretched across the river to prevent boaters from getting near the dam below the ramp.

Jon Boat Transporting
There are several types of wheeled carriers that can be used for wheeling canoes, jons, kayaks to the water's edge. The bigger (diameter) the wheels, the better, and easier they will roll over natural terrain. On soft sand, balloon type wheels are better. Set the boat on the carrier and secure it with a strap. Most carriers come with a cam locking strap. Replace it with a ratchet type strap/belt to adequately secure the boat to the carrier. Cheap investment and will positively prevent the boat from shifting on the carrier on bumpy ground.

Electric Help Needed, Please!!
It's possible the neutral safety switch is on the motor, somewhere along the shift linkage. It's possible some of the early electric start outboards didn't have that feature, but I cannot imagine that it took many years to correct that hazard. I had a 1971, 60 hp Evinrude. It had to be in neutral to start, if memory serves. The key switch was on the single lever remote control.
