  1. No. The state started registering boats in the late 50s or early 60s. That was long before Massachusetts was shortened to MA. Have no idea why they initially used MS, but they did, and continue using it to this day. Back then when you addressed a letter or package for the post office to send to someone in MA, the abbreviation was Mass. Registration Numbering The boat registration number prefix for Massachusetts is "MS". http://www.marinetitle.com/boat-registration/MA-Massachusetts.htm
  2. You can buy the stick on letters and numbers for your boat, and they'll do the job. But, if you are fuss over every detail, check out having your registration number done by a graphics sign shop. I had mine done by a local fellow I've known for years. Cost forty bucks which included the application. He would have slanted the numbers to match the NITRO, but the state specifies "block" numbers and letters. Not being sure if it could be a problem, I opted out of slanting them. While it may cost a few bucks more, they are more durable than the peel and stick type, and they go on as one piece with the top film peeled off once they are applied.
  3. That's a bummer. I thought you were going to be scoping out the shoreline properties for one with a dock, or one convenient for building a dock. Congrats on the new job. Good luck on finding one where you don't have to show up, let alone be expected to work. Only in America.
  4. Sounds good to me as long as they don't need both of our rigs for the non-boaters. If I'm not mistaken, your entourage arrives on Saturday. What's your ETA? Scorcher is supposed to hook up with me for that day. Not as good a deal as the 7. It is a "leftover" 2011. The 7 was a leftover '09. Only three grand off the original sticker price, plus a thousand dollar BPS gift card. But, unlike the 7, it does not have any cosmetic blemishes.
  5. Exciting news. I'm going to dragging a new girl to the road trip. She won't be making it to the soiree, or any of the evening gatherings. She's not much into the night life, preferring to rest and recharge for the next day's activities. Though she doesn't do much at night, she really comes to life during the day, and is up to extended periods with twosomes and threesomes. Scroll down to check her out. Must be over 18.
  6. Wow, you surpassed Methuselah.
  7. I tried being young once. Didn't work out very well. It was over before I knew it. Some of the youngsters on here might find it unbelievable that I was ever young.
  8. My experience is that there are very few anglers who will give the keys to their honey hole to a total stranger. But, it's just me. If someone wants to cover the dents and diggers on their boats or tow vehicles, that's great. It's just not my style. There is no right or wrong when it comes to displaying your interests. Well, most interests anyway.
  9. I don't, and I won't, unless someone can convince me that stickers, decals, and other paraphernalia affixed to me or my truck will make me a better fisherman.
  10. Contact Humminbird, and ask for an explanation. 1-800-633-1468
  11. Let's do some math. In two hundred feet of water the "ping" has to travel 400 feet to get back to the transducer. Roughly, sound (the ping) travels at 4500 feet per second. That means it takes less than a tenth of a second for the sound to echo back to the transducer. 50 mph equates to 75 feet per second. At 50 mph, your boat has travelled 7.5 feet. Keep in mind a transducer emits a "cone" of sound. A 30 degree cone will have a diameter of 600 feet on the bottom in 200 feet of water. That signal reflected back has a 1200 foot diameter "footprint" at the surface. At fifty mph there is no way your boat will be outside of that reflected circle. That's based on a hard, flat bottom that will reflect most of the signal. If you're talking side imaging, or down imaging emissions which are razor thin, you could out run the echo. If my math is off, feel free to correct me. Now, you may get a weak, or no return at those speeds, but it isn't because you've outrun the signal. It is most likely due to the air that gets swept beneath the boat at that speed. Air bubbles can diminish or block the transmission and return of the signal from the transducer.
  12. A tippit? Isn't that used in ice fishing? Oooops, my mistake, that's a tip up.
  13. A case of wishful thinking?
  14. First thing, change my phone number to unlisted unpublished. Get an incinerator to burn all the offers to help me invest my newly acquired wealth. At 70, why would I need to invest a few hundred million dollars. We'd pack our bags, and take off with boat in tow, and play it by ear. Only family and friends would know where we are and how to contact us. Spend some time fishing, hiking with my wife, travelling, and just chilling out so we could clear our minds and give some thought to it without the distractions of the world that would otherwise be clamoring at our door. We'd be in unknown territory, uncharted waters. We'd do nothing in haste. I'd still go fishing with my buddies who put up with me as I am now. Maybe I'd buy Augusta National, and let the ladies join. LOL.
  15. I guess I'm the opposite. I don't wear advertising, except for the Rage Tail hat I got from Big O at the Pickwick Road Trip. I do fish his products. I don't wear it because I got it free. I wear it because I respect the man, and not just his willingness to get down on our level, but that he actually enjoys getting down and dirty with the weekend warriors and recreational fishermen. Other than that, I don't advertise for anyone. A lot of folks buy particular brands of clothing with the brand boldly embroidered, silk screened or by any other method plastered all over them. I don't let dealers put their stickers on my vehicles. The exception being when they provide good service and go out of their way to accomodate me, I will let them put license plate frames with their name on my vehicle. I'm not into decals on my vehicle proclaiming I've been to DisneyWorld, the Grand Canyon, or any other notable tourist destination. But that's me. Some folks wear clothing to impress others whether or not they actually use the products. I don't care if someone wears Steez apparel and fishes with a Popeil Pocket fisherman. If they are posers, it's their problem. I couldn't give a hoot about them seeking status through clothing. I have bigger fish to fry, scratch fry, change to catch. All I expect from others is some common courtesy while fishing. Maybe the closest some of these "posers" will get to a Loomis, or a Steez, or whatever, is an article of clothing bearing their name or logo. If it makes them happy, how does it hurt anyone? Hey Glenn, regarding the Nike swoosh, and wearing another brand of athletic shoes, maybe they play Nike golf balls, and/or Nike golf clubs. Nike is not your father's Nike any more. (stolen from Oldsmobile)
  16. As Francho posted, you can see there are brackets. Just make sure when you wire it in, you have enough slack to allow the unit to swivel so you get a good view from both positions.
  17. Autopilot. I'll be getting to our daughter's home in GA, and spending a night or two there. Her home is about two hours from Guntersville. I'll leave her house for Guntersville at around five in the morning, and be at Guntersville around six. No, there is nothing wrong with my math. She lives on the western edge of the eastern time zone. Guntersville is in the central time zone. I'll leave her house at five eastern time, four central time.
  18. Why is it baseball rather than basesball? If the hits are, a single, double, and triple, why isn't a home run called a quadruple?
  19. I'm glad I read all the way down. When I first saw the title of this thread it made me laugh. I was going to post something similar to yours.
  20. I second what Catt said. You need some new/real friends. It's rude for a "captain" to leave sloppy seconds for the guy in the back. Some of my buddies have boats, and we take turns at being captain for the day. I've never felt like I was hung out in no man's land with no opportunity to fish the productive bottom when I was at the rear.
  21. I've run three sounders, only one side imaging (Humminbird 898) and run the engine very little on most of the waters I fish. They won't deplete a healthy battery. I plug in the battery charger after every trip. Sometimes I don't run the main engine enough to keep the battery fully charged. If you don't have one, get a voltmeter to check the condition of the battery at the start, and at the end of the day. That will give you a good indication of the drain you are putting on your battery.
  22. An open invite. I'm planning to be there at first light on Friday, the 20th. At the moment, I have an open seat (two actually) Anyone else arriving on Friday and interested in fishing, send a pm. We can hook up early, or later in the day. Let me know.
  23. Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways? Why do ships carry cargo, but trucks carry shipments?
  24. Think about this. The HDS's features such as maps, and navigation will not do you much good if the display is at the bow, when you are at the helm. Let's for a minute assume you have a hot spot in the middle of a good sized body of water with no close by points of reference. You put a waypoint into your system to mark that piece of bottom. Are you going to motor to that place from the bow, if it's a good distance away? Say you are cruising unfamiliar water, looking for structure or cover. Would you rather do that from the helm at five or six mph, or from the bow where every time you change direction you change or blur the display on the screen? Which mounting place will maximize the side imaging feature? These are questions only you can answer because each one of us fish a bit, or a lot differently than another. What works for you might drive me crazy, and vice versa. Think about all aspects of what the unit can do, and where it will be most effective to suit you.
