  1. add senile1 GMAN Senile1, all aboard. I'll have food for eveybody. Would that be Boulevard beer you're referring to? One of my favorite breweries. Yes, it will be Boulevard and I will be bringing a few makes and models: Pale Ale, Amber, Pilsner, and Wheat. If you have one you like that I'm not bringing let me know and I'll get it. The models are a great idea. Unless my wife finds out.
  2. Sawdy? Have you gone out fishing yet? Not Sawdy, but close. Devol Pond, it's a few hundred yards east of Sawdy, about one quarter the size. A half mile long and a quarter mile wide. Surrounded by private property Large pond in the center is South Watuppa. Middle left is Stafford Pond, below Watuppa is Sawdy, and just to the right of Sawdy is Devol. Very few people know it exists since there is no public access and only one road from which it can be seen. Used to be a smallmouth pond 'til someone introduced largemouth about thirty years ago. No more smallies. Funny, all the other ponds in the image support both species. The home icon is where we live. For some reason, the images are not showing up. I'll post the url so you can click on that if they don't appear for you. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/HomarusAmericanus/DSC00054.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/HomarusAmericanus/GoogleEarthHomewithlocalponds.jpg
  3. Nice. You're gonna have a great time with it. As much as I enjoy my Z7, there is much to be said for getting right down there at water level with my canoes. You can do it all right from your seat. It's fun getting towed around a bit by a good fish. Very stealthy, and you can get into places a regular boat cannot go. Good luck, and enjoy.
  4. I'm trying to get my wife to come fishing with me. At the moment she has this thing about not liking to hurt them by driving a hook into their flesh. Several years ago I took her striper fishing and she caught an eighteen pounder, and enjoyed it. Funny thing, she doesn't remember it. I can remember exactly where she hooked it and the stage of the tide. She's retired, we love to travel, and it would be ideal. She likes hiking, snowshoeing and other outdoor activities. Fishing would be a natural fit. We do play golf together. Personally, I would have no issues fishing with women.
  5. You cannot copy directly from your computer. To post, the photos must have a web address. There are several programs such as Photobucket that you can sign up with at no cost. You download the images from your computer to your account. From there each of your photos will have a different address. For example. Clicking on this address will give you the photo below. To have a picture appear in your post you can do one of two things. Click on the image icon in the top row, third from the left above the message window. Then paste the address between the brackets. Or in the case of photobucket you put your cursor on the image you want to post and a window will open below the image. Click on IMG code and it will be copied. Then, just paste it where you want the photo and you're good to go. It will include the "insert image" automatically. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/HomarusAmericanus/DSC00501.jpg
  6. I've had three. They had that silly titanium deposition finish. Frame and neck looked like chrome, but not for long. Mechanically, they were fine with one minor flaw, the instant non reverse were not instant. The bail could move slightly back before it locked. At times, it was a minor annoyance. No big deal. The problem was that finish. It began deteriorating very quickly. In less than a season of fishing, the finish corroded and blistered. Looked like it had been underwater for a couple of years. None of my other reels including some BPS Extreme baitcasters. The first they exchanged without a question. At the beginning of last year I gave them away, and replaced them with Shimano Saros reels. All my gear is stored inside out of the weather. Looks like the latest JM reels do not have that deposition finish. Had it not been for the finish problems I'd still have them today.
  7. If the oil you have "meets or exceeds" the SAE specs for your application, you should be good to go. To my knowledge, none of the motor manufacturers make motor oil. It is made for them by one oil company or another.
  8. The same as putting them in a post. There is one difference. In a post they come up full size. In a private message they appear as thumbnails. To enlarge just click on the thumbnail. This is from the FAQs Open up the FAQ link. Find the section below. You can click on any of the three questions for a tutorial. How do I add pictures? We have several tutorials to help you out: How to post a picture from your PC How to post pictures using an online photo host (posting multiple pictures in one post) How to post a picture for your avatar
  9. I'm glad you mentioned the weights. On average the fish pulled from the beds are heavier than those anywhere else, by a wide margin. This one got away just after the pic was snapped. But, you can tell by the boil it was no dink.
  10. X2 You're absatively, positutely correct. ;D Rhino is that a LaBASSdor Retriever in the background? Looks like he helped you corral a nice one! How did you train him to do that? ;D Yes it is, and no I didn't train him. Our daughter did. This is a tiny pond, maybe three acres behind her house. The lab is Allie, and she's a nuisance. If she's out and about, she always swims out to the boat. If I want to fish, I have to drag her aboard. Then she shakes and gives me a shower. I have to tell her to stay, or she'll try to retrieve my bait when it hits the water. I had hooked the fish when my daughter let the dogs our for a run. Allie saw me and made for the boat. Lucky I got it in before she got to the boat.

  12. Don't let the opportunity pass you by. A couple of years ago I tried fishing the pad beds as soon as the pads started to appear. Only a small fraction had reached the surface in four to six feet of water. Some were just below the surface some only a few inches from the bottom. I set some floats around the perimeter of the beds, then worked my way around the perimeter, fan casting into the beds. I was using a space monkey rigged weedless on an Owner keel weighted hook. I'd allow five to ten seconds before beginning my retrieve. Many times, there was a fish on when I took the slack out of the line. If it wasn't taken on the drop, it was amazing to feel the bait scratching its way through the pad stems at the bottom. Some of the best fishing I've experienced has been when the pads are just starting to show. Plenty of cover for the bass, but you don't have to cast to tiny holes, or punch through the thick "leaves" to get the bait to the bottom. Try it. I think you'll like it. Swimming a drop shot rigged weedless should yield plenty of action. Haven't tried it yet, but plan to this year.

  14. I have the Navplanner2. You can import data to it, and export data from it. Keep in mind, it is for sure compatible with Navionics maps. The product is sold by Navionics, the software is developed by Fugawi. Check this for compatibility. http://www.fugawi.com/web/support/gps_compatibility.htm You can contact Fugawi for technical support at support@fugawi.com for email, or search their online support at www.fugawi.com/support. If you have a problem with either of those, just go to www.fugawi.com , then find support or contact. You can also contact them by phone. 416-920-9300 ext2. They are located in Canada. 15. Depending on your layout, a smaller version to hold one or two rods each side of you might do the trick. No need for stick jackets on this set up. Bungee cords hold the rods in place while on the road. Be sure to keep the tips as low as possible so they don't get snagged by overhanging brush or branches. In my canoe they are all below the foredeck.
  16. I checked out my favorite pond today. Yesterday it was shore to shore ice. Today, the entire pond is open. What ice remains was pushed to the windward side of the pond. That should be gone tomorrow. I hope to get out by the weekend in my canoe. Any takers? If they are hungry, jigs should catch 'em.
  17. Some critics panned him for his role in The Scent of a Woman. I thought he did a great job portraying a blind man.
  18. Bummer. It brings to mind the movie Terminal, starring Tom Hanks. Different situation, but the same circumstances.
  19. I "force" myself to use the kill switch. I use it to shut the engine off. It does the same as the ignition switch, cuts power to the ignition system. Then I turn off the key. If I forget to clip it to the safety switch, the engine won't start. It's really nothing more than a reminder for me. The lanyard is always clipped to my belt until the boat is on the trailer. Then it goes in a compartment, and the safety switch is in the off position.
  20. I suspect that all marine products that used for cleaning and protecting must meet EPA standards regarding pollution. As for repelling fish, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Here's why. There is a significant number of boats running around, "leaching" these products into the waterways. Where would the fish run? Or where would you go to find "untainted" water? You may be on to something, who knows? I doubt it's the slightest problem. I never gave it a thought 'til you mentioned it, so kudos to you for bringing it up.
  21. Most saltwater boats in the 17 - 22 foot range are center consoles, with the wheel in the middle. Most New England lobsterboats are operated from the starboard side. I suspect it's because most folks are right handed, and when a trap gets to the rail, it's more natural for a right hander to "break" the trap over the rail with the right hand, and clear the line from the fairlead (******) block with the left hand. Even the crab boats on deadliest catch are rigged to haul from the starboard side. The 13 foot Boston Whalers that have a steering wheel are right handed. The larger versions, 15 feet and up are center console.
  22. Hey it's easy finding the silver lining in the misfortune of others...right? : What misfortune? It will be a consequence. And, it will affect me, just in a different way. Please don't think I'm making light of how the price of gas will impact some. It's a valid, and logical, answer to the question posed at the start of the thread. My two biggest fish last year were caught from two different boats, neither had a gas powered engine. My canoe has a trolling motor, and our daughter's Bass Hunter has one paddle.
  23. It sounds like you are a candidate for the fin. I don't know what your engine should turn wide open. Mine runs about 100 rpm less than the recommended max. I want to say 6300. My Z7 does just over 58mph, fully loaded. Your setup sounds similar to mine. Three batteries and the oil reservoir behind the live well. I am going to try to get a bit more weight forward if possible, and stow lighter gear in the aft storage compartments.
  24. Unless your jon is too heavy and cumbersome, roof racks might be a better solution, and cheaper to boot. Just a thought.
  25. It should help, but first make sure the problem is not the wrong size/pitch prop. I had that same problem getting on plane with my Z7 with a 150 Merc, and a larger prop with more pitch solved it. With the original (wrong) prop the engine would turn up nearly 5000 rpm, but struggle to get on plane. With the new prop, the engine only turns just over 3000 wide open throttle to get on plane. With the first prop the engine would over rev once on plane and motor trimmed. If you have a three blade prop, changing to a four might help. Check with a Ranger dealer. They should know the correct prop for your rig and load. Is it possible the motor needs a tune up, new plugs or whatever? There are many factors to consider, including weight distribution in the boat, and motor trim. Do you have the motor trimmed all the way down when taking off? Some of these are obvious to many, but I do not know your level of experience, so I tossed them out there for your consideration.
