  1. I am an "old timer" in the buddy tournaments we throw on our local reservoir. It's tin boats, 9.9hp restricted waterway. We have been doing these tournaments out there now for 23 years!! Only about 4 of us left that have fished all of those years!! Open to anyone that wants to play. We do about 14-15 a year and a two day Classic at the end of the year for the top 15 teams according to weight. We do a 6 fish limit to promote two man teams although if you want to fish as a single you still have to pay the full entry but can only bring 5 fish to the scale. We have had 40+ boat events and it regularly takes 20-25lbs to take a check!! Its fun, we don't have dues but we do collect for insurance as it is required by the park we launch from. What are your concerns or questions?? Maybe I maybe be able to offer some help or suggestions.
  2. Alright, so we tentatively have the first weekend of April. Good good!!
  3. Got the first res tournament on the 20th, following weekend is Easter. Not that I won't be fishing but may be a problem for some. First weekend of April??
  4. As with most things in life, I'm sure tournament fishing is a lot of hard work, we just get to see the " fun" part of it!! I enjoy fishing because it's an escape of sorts. If it became a job, I don't think I would enjoy it as much really!!
  5. Created on Wednesday, 17 April 2013 07:33 Determination of acrolein and other carbonyls in cigarette smoke (but they also tested an e-cigarette) I was recently informed about an old study from 2010, that has been used by various health authorities as an argument for the risks imposed by e-cigarettes. Moreover, it has raised a lot of controversy and confusion among vapers, because the methodology cannot be easily understood. When I was informed about this, at first I read the abstract and the “Methods” section. No mention of electronic cigarette or of any tests on electronic cigarette in these setions. So, I posted a comment on facebook that it has nothing to do with the e-cigarette. However, out of nowhere (or from the sky, as we say in Greece) came a paragraph in “Results” section, discussing about tests on electronic cigarettes and detection of significant levels of acrolein and formaldehyde. So, it is important to make it clear to everyone. First of all, it is indeed a test on electronic cigarette (probably a first generation, vacuum-activated, cigarette-like device). People reading the study got confused about the HQ-DNPH cartridges that were connected to the e-cigarette. To make it easier to understand, these are small boxes that are attached at the mouth-tip of the e-cigarette, allow air to pass through them and trap acrolein. So, they applied vacuum in order to activate the e-cigarette, and air+vapor passed through these externally attached boxes that trapped acrolein. It was indeed a test of e-cigarette. BUT, the methodology used is completely unacceptable. They applied vacuum at flow rates of 500ml/min. Considering that vapers most probably take 50-70ml puffs in 4 seconds, they used a flow rate similar to taking 10 puffs per minute. Impossible for anyone to do. Moreover, they do not mention for how long they applied this vacuum. Did they do it for 1 minute? Meaning that the e-cigarette device was continuously activated for 1 minute, causing such overheat that it would be unbearable for any vaper to use it. I suspect that several parts of the e-cigarette internals should have melted by following such a procedure. Therefore, I am not surprized that they found such chemicals. In conclusion, yes, they tested an e-cigarette. In conditions that no vaper is able to use it. The paper is overall an excellent example of bias and misinformation. No reference to e-cigarette is mentioned in the “Methods” section, no information on e-cigarette handling was provided in “Results” section. And arbitrary conclusions were made from this study, which are non-applicable to real use. I can understand that some media and journalists might use this study to support an article about the risks of e-cigarettes. I would understand their confusion from reading such a bad paper. However, for public health authorities to refer to this study, it is a complete disgrace! Here is some research done by a respected Dr in the field. Cardiologist Dr Konstantinos Farsilanos
  6. Couldn't even begin to imagine the feeling of walking up there with THAT final day bag of fish! Great job by Evers for sure!!!
  7. Gotcha, meltdown, come on now, this is an interwebz forum, I try to be informative, not inflammatory!
  8. In what capacity?? Such a non sequitur!! Check statistics on death by methadone as opposed to death by nicotine, your making my case here. At what point in time was methadone even slightly harmless?? It's a controlled substance, a narcotic. You need a prescription and under a doctors supervision. I can purchase nicotine base online. Why do you consistently throw false info here when vaping is the subject if you are not willing to back it up?? It's not funny nor slightly amusing. Someone might benefit from actually stopping smoking and you keep crapping on it.
  9. I want @junyer357 to sell me his old OMC trolling motor. For a 14' jon boat, those things are like gold!!
  10. What about it?? Different atomizers used to make that happen. The two are not interchangeable. Will people do it and try to hide under the guise of vaping, sure. I'm sure the first guy that rolled a blunt thought he was really tricky too!! CBD's is a whole other thing, not 100% sure of how that works as it doesn't apply to what I'm doing but have an understanding that it has some health benefits without the THC.
  11. I was trying to fix that and apologize, he said that in a response to your post and I clumped them together sorry bud! I will repeat what i said in the beginning, this is harm reduction. Do I believe it's totally safe, no way. Do I think it will save millions of lives by making it easier to stop smoking? Yes. Will some people use it as a crutch and as you say swap one addiction for another? A hundred times yes! Do a little research on nicotine, used in vaping, it is no more addictive than caffeine. The difference is, I did my homework, I sifted through the research.
  12. Then where did this come from??!!
  13. Seen them all and they are funny no doubt!! Bet you don't have the sack to tell Tom Hardy it's stupid thought! i don't like that the hipster/scene kids crowd are all about it, I'll be 52 in April, way past the cool kid phase to say the least!!
  14. I wanted to add some levity to the situation!! By no means am I butthurt by any of this, the misinformation bugs me!
  15. I'm glad you were able to overcome your addictions, I truly am. But everyone is different. You seem almost militant that "it's easy once you make up your mind." I'll bet those that have heavy addictions to opioids and alcohol should be just fine if you told them to "man up!" So to speak. I don't think you get it one bit. Some people don't have the mental fortitude to make those kind of life choices without professional help. I have friends going down that rabbit hole and you are right, it's tough to see and I have no choice at this point but to distance myself from them because they refuse any and all help offered to them. To group all those that choose to vape as a means of harm reduction to tobacco as weak minded is garbage, having gone through some of these things yourself, you should know better!
  16. Some truly stupid analogies. Asbestos, walking in front of vehicles. If you don't like it, and the people that do, it's all good. But to not understand it because you are too lazy to do the research and throw stones, you probably have bigger problems. I'm done GJM there has been quite a bit of research done on ecigs, if you're willing to look for it, or not, probably easier to lob that interwebz grenade!! You want to see something funny so to speak? Look up possible side effects of FDA approved smoking cessation drugs or for that matter any of the new drugs on the market today. Makes you wonder!
  17. 170ft in south Florida?? Is it a pit lake of some kind??
  18. Too much water will kill you!!
  19. This is exactly true, I prefaced my original post to this topic as vaping is harm reduction. We all know smoking is bad, period. I did not jump into this lightly, I read articles, joined a forum, asked questions, listened to how this "helped" people quit cigarettes. Nicotine in this capacity is no more harmful than caffeine.
  20. Had a few close around where I live, found calcutta B150 for $89. Should have gone around to as many as I could for that price!!
  21. Considering the carcinogenic known chemicals associated with vaping are minute or trace amounts as compared to those in a cigarette, I'll keep doing what I'm doing with confidence!
  22. Again, if you don't know what you are talking about, why make assumptions!
  23. Cigarette smoking by minors is decreasing substantially, coincidence............. Im not saying vaping is cool by any stretch but the word is out on tobacco, it WILL kill you!
