  1. The only fish I know of that exist in this lake where I experienced this are LM Bass,Rainbow Trout,Bluegill,Redear Sunfish(Shellcracker),Green Sunfish, Channel cats(which havent been caught in many years),Bullhead Cats(same situation as the Channel Cats) and there have also been reports of Pike but noone has caught one of those in a long time either. My guess is its a feisty Bluegill hittin and runnin. Or a Green Sunfish because those are very viscious when they strike. But I still would like to know just how I should react to such a strike. I would really like to hook into whatever this is and clear up the mystery.
  2. Never caught any Bass over 5 lbs, but rest assured im working on it every Chance I get.
  3. What I have seen people do on the bank is, Find a bend in the shoreline, kinda like a corner . Then cast your c-rig out and with the spool in freespin mode walk along the bank and let out line till you can get around the to the other side. Then work the c-rig as you normally would. Kinda hard to understand I know but if you understand and dont mind walking a little bit ,it might help you cover some deeper water.
  4. The other day I was Dropshotting a Tiki Drop and occasionally had a real ferocious bite. The fish hit and just pulled like a freight train.Like wanting to pull the rod right out of my hand. What can I do in a situation like that. First instinct is to set the hook, but when I did that hook came back bare. Ripped my entire Tiki Drop striaght off the hook. What are the chances that the fish that was doing this was a Bass and was wondering if that could be what was hitting so hard. OR---Is that sort of strike just normal for a dropshot rig?
  5. I was watching the Citgo Bassmaster Classic coverage on ESPN and saw Rick Clunn boat a 10 lb Bass. He was talking about when he was gonna retire. He said he would retire when he can catch a fish and keep his hand from doin "this"( held up his trembling hand). He then went on to say(not quoting exactly) Aint no drug in the world that can give you a high as the one you get when your fishing. Those are words to live by. When anyone else asks me why I love fishing so much,Ill tell em..."thats where I get my high"... So true!!!
  6. I have a spot way out in the desert that holds water. Its an old Gravel pit and I fished it when I was a kid and know that back then there were some Bass and Yellow Bullheads in it. Its not very large at all,you could probably park 4 cars in it from one end to the other and as far as width its probably 2 cars wide. The water used to be semi clear. You could at least see things in the water, but now its all muddy water. Its been at least 15 years since I fished it and am not sure If theres any fish even in it anymore. Its actually such a desolate body of water and the water is so murky its almost spooky. How can I set my approach to finding out if theres still fish in it? I was thinking of going out there with some nightcrawlers to try to rouse up the Catfish. Thats easy enough. I see huge Bullfrog Tadpoles occasionally surfacing and have seen 2 huge turtles cruising the surface. Im not sure many people know about this Hole, and if they do I doubt people like to fish it cause its such a far walk. Would a Dark colored worm or lizard be a good approach?
  7. I was having trouble tying the dropshot and having the hook point stand up. When I tied it the hook was always upside down. Well to solve the problem I learned that when you tie the Palomar knot, the hook eye needs to be on the right and the hook point has to be on the left (as you look at the hook.) Try tying the knot with the hook pointed both ways and youll understand the difference. I appreciate all the suggestions everyone gave me and running the tag end back through the eye of the hook finalized solving the problem. Thanks
  8. I went out and tried dropshotting again yesterday and had the worst of luck. Got so aggravated I almost said I was gonna give up fishing. With this said the dropshot does work . So heres the problems I encountered hopefully someone can help. Im having trouble with getting the hook to sit correctly. When I rig it the the hook has the point towards the ground and I cant for the life of me get the hook to " stand straight " like its supposed to. I lost a fortune worth of sinkers yesterday. almost every other cast I would have to put a new sinker on and occasionally the whole rig would break off. I was using #4 line. How in the world do I tie this thing properly so the hook stands out and how do I get the hook point to where its pointed up?
  9. How exactly is the double fluke rigged? I have started dropshotting and I love the bite. Is the double fluke rig anything like a dropshot rig?
  10. I tried Dropshotting yesterday and caught 8 fish. 5 Dink Bass and 3 Big Bluegill. I know Dropshotting is a finesse techinique,I had a decent one on yesterday but I lost it,because I think the hook was too small. I was using a Gammy Dropshot/Splitshot hook. Is there a such thing as using bigger baits and bigger hooks when dropshotting? The bait I was using was a Berkley 3" power pulse worm, and I swear if i didnt know it was artificial I would think I was looking at a live minnow when I was moving it in the water. Nice action.Where can I find bigger baits and hooks geared specifically towards dropshotting?
  11. I am a member and sometimes when I clear my internet Cache it logs me out and then I become a "Guest" but I still browse. I will then log in if I have something to post.
  12. I have heard that depending on what the barometric pressure is that the fishing will be good. I have also heard that good fishing is based on the moon phase. So which is it and does it really matter? I say just go fishing no matter what.
  13. I spend alot of time on the water, and usually dont bring a watch to tell the time. I was thinking of spending an entire day fishing ,using a different bait every hour . Would that be productive? I think it could help with my technique, and also find out what the fish want.
  14. Im hopin to be on the water by at least noon. Im dropping my kids off to visit with thier mom for her Birthday . She requested 10am and for me to pick em back up around 4 pm. I have about an hour drive each way to the lake so I figger Ill head home around when the sun sets behind the mountain. Ohh about 7pm. I dont have service on my cell out there so I cant get her phone calls and I dont keep a watch on me so time just slips away..Thatll be my excuse on why I wasnt back to pick my kids up sooner.
  15. I havent been on the water in a month and hopefully tomorrow Ill get to go. To get an idea of what the fish want whats a good suggestion. Should I throw fast movers first to see if they are in chasing mode or should I just stick with my ol reliable soft plastic t rig presentation. I mostly fish ONLY soft plastics an sometimes get skunked. At times like those would a fast mover perhaps pay off?
  16. Had the same thing happen to me last year. Was fishing 4 inch renegade worms t rigged and kept getting that"tap tap". Would set the hook and come up with nothing but a worm with the tail bit cleanly off. Afterwards I noticed heads of turtles cruising the surface. Had to be the culprit.
  17. Phew!! I thought I was wierd cause I talk to myself when fishing. I fish on the bank and have people give me strange looks when they quietly walk by the spot im fishing. Guess I dont notice them cause im in "The Zone" I find it therapeutic,I not only talk to myself about fishing but other random thoughts that enter my head. My shrink says its called "Self Talk" and its a way of reassuring myself of my actions, thoughts and decisions. Its a way for me to build confidence about what im doing too.
  18. In 2 lakes 300 miles apart here in Arizona, I noticed the "dads" were the same color. Bigger ones were Dark Grey with blue Pincers. The small ones were dark grey and had red or orange at the tips of thier pincers. Both large and small had white undersides, unless they were pretty old, then they had what looked like a dirty/stained underside. I have seen them with a light coat of green algae on thiem too.
  19. This month i have my kids for the month and its just so miserably hot that I am avoiding taking them to the lake till the weather cools off. While I can tolerate long periods in the sun,im not so sure about my kids. Anyway starting in July Im gonna head back out and start hittin a local lake. What kind of behavior should I expect at this time of year. May was post spawn from what I know cause they started hittin top waters pretty good. Just wanted to get an idea of where the fish might be and what they may be doing(holding deep,feeding...ect) So all I guess im really asking is..I havent been on the water in a month...what should my plan of attack be? I will be fishing from the bank.
  20. When wacky rigging a Senko type bait,do you all bend the bait in half to find the exact center or do you all just "eyeball" it. Would it make any difference in action if the o-ring was a little more to the rear or a little more forward of center?
  21. I have an objective when I fish. That objective is to catch at least one fish(dink or not) That way I know that my long drive to the lake wasnt for nothing. I think I can get just as much satisfaction if they are just biting consistently,at least then I know my presentation is working.Anyone else have goals when they fish?
  22. I own a pair of Hibdon Series Solar Bats in the grey lens which I bought from Wal-Mart. They cost me around $15. I am happy with them and they didnt cost me a fortune.
  23. I am medically retired and spent alot of time on the water once it started warming up. I now have my kids for my summer visitation which is limiting me from fishing alone. I have a trip to the Grand Canyon planned this coming Thursday and am taking my Girlfriends 2 girls along as well. I will have my fishing gear loaded up,just in case I can find the time to take em all out to a lake up there. I am itching to go to the lake again but at this point, the weather has me beat..Its just too darn hot for my kids to tolerate it. But you can count on the end of the month that I will be heading out on the water again.
  24. I was just thinking about a fishing trip I had last year in which I caught my PB(5LBS) . On that outing I was wearing a grey shirt with a Largemouth bass that was red white and blue. The script over the Bass was "All American Bass Angler". Just thought it was strange to catch my PB Largemouth while wearing that shirt, anyone else have a coincedence like that happen to them. I consider that my "lucky shirt"
  25. This might seem like a long shot and please disregard if it is .But to those who care to respond please do. Heres the situation: You are approached by a stranger and given a challenge. The challenge being that you will be given a choice of 1 rod and reel of your choice, only 1 lure/bait, any kind of line you would like. You will be taken to an unknown lake that has bass in it, in another state and can only fish from the bank. Your goal is to catch at least 1 bass over 1 pound. If the goal is met you will win a brand new Bass boat. With that situation, what Bait/lure do you go with(color, size ect) and why?
