  1. I use the palomar for just about all my applications (mono, braid and fluro) and do not have an issue with the knots breaking.
  2. Welcome to THE boards rippin-lips!
  3. Welcome to THE boards Dramer77! I've spent a good amount of time living in Washington county as well (Sharpsburg and Williamsport mostly). While I'm over in Frederick now, I still enjoy fishing out that way. As Brian had mentioned, there are a few of us in the local area so don't hesitate to ask any questions!
  4. Merry Christmas to all my fellow MD anglers and all anglers around the world! May your stocking be filled with lures and rods and reels under the tree!
  5. Eric, I hadn't heard of this until just now. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the heads up! Tuckahoe, I usually do a fair amount of spinnerbait and crankbait fishing myself. This time of year, unless I'm fishing one of the warm water discharge areas, I'm slowing down a lot with soft plastics and jigs. I did get out for a little while on tuesday when the temps hit 70 and tried swimjigs to see if anything was active, no luck for me.
  6. Good to hear you and your son got out again wv! While not my #1 favorite, the Strike King spinnerbaits are very good IMO. Definitely a good find for sure! Like wv, I made it out for a few hours on thanksgiving as well. I hit Dickerson. Made it there by first light and fished until 10:30'ish. Levels weren't quite where I was hoping for but hit the discharge area and managed on tiny dink smallie on a Strike King Rocket Shad. LOL! Went up and fished the canal for a while but only managed a pair of bumps there. Not sure when I'll be able to get back out again. Shouldn't be done for the year yet. Hoping for 1 or 2 more outings.
  7. Good to see you're still getting out Kevin! Nice write up as always! So how did the snakehead taste? Haven't been out for a while now. Hopefully, I can get out soon. The withdraws are killin me. LOL!

Same here. I believe there's another thread in the everything else section as well.
  9. Glad to hear everything is ok in your neck of the woods Tuckahoe! Made it out my self for a little while myself. Popped over to Dam 4. The water was down from the 16' peak and wasn't as muddy as I expected but it was still far from crystal clear. Pitched a tube around in a few spots that I've had success in the past but no takers for me either.
  10. You're absolutely right about that Allen, that section is deeper and was one of my favorite spots there. The other 2 pics I received were from the middle of the canal and the lower end (where they tied that boat up). But the middle section pic looks like its away from the bridges and pointed down towards the lower end as well.
  11. I'm having issues uploading 2 of the pics but here is one of the pics from right at the parking lot at the Cushwa Basin.
  12. How's everyone holding up after Sandy? We're doing good in Frederick at our place. One of my friends sent me a few pics of the C&O canal at Williamsport. I'll see if I can load the pics in a few. Sadly, this fishery appears to be lost for some time. His take on it is the overflow gate failed and just about drained the entire section of the canal. I checked the Hancock river gauge a few minutes ago and its still on a HARD spike and is currently at just under 9'. Stay safe everyone!!!
  13. LOL Bill! No need to pay, I've enjoyed meeting up with several members on the boards (maybe with the exception of Brian when he makes me pick the spots. LOL!). We'll definitely have to meet up some time for an outing. I do have some free time on my hands, outside of the job hunt. One thing I can say about the pond in Baker park is I'm amazed how close to the shoreline most of the bass I've caught there have been. My first outing there, I lost one (guessing 3-4lbs) not a rod's length off the shore. I started paralleling the shore line with the lipless cranks and had several hook ups that way. The big one I caught was out in the middle of the pond. Even with the water color being off, the bass in there have been hitting more natural colored baits. Sexy sunfish and Oyster colored Red Eye Shads, green pumpkin football head jig and a Reaction Innovation's Sweet Beaver in Hematoma have produced for me so far. Ken, happy belated b-day! The area off Wynnfield has been a tough spot for me for a few years now so don't get down on yourself too much about not doing well there. Shoot me a PM about the gear you were using (rod, line, hook, etc) and I'll see if I can offer you any help to solving the hook up issue you're having on the Ika's.
  14. Haven't had much time to get out since the move to Frederick but I have had 2 chances to get out. I hit a pond that I had mentioned a while back, the little pond in Baker Park in Frederick. First outing, was pretty much a scouting mission and I only brought 1 rod with me. I was throwing a lipless crank (Red Eye Shad) and figured them out rather quick. I managed 5 in the short outing, with the biggest going 17 1/2" (guessing around 2.5lbs). The second outing, I went a little more prepared with a more balanced arsenal. I found myself rather impressed with the pond after it produced my only bass of the outing. That only bass turned out to be a 20" 4lb 2oz chunk! I'm still kicking myself for leaving the camera at home!
  15. Welcome to THE boards Zeebyrd! I'm not familiar with Centennial so can't help you there. I believe there are still a few members that have fished there, hopefully one of them will see your post and be able to give you some advice! While I haven't fished the 3 lakes you mentioned this year, Big Pool and Cunningham are 2 of my favorites. From the sound of it, DNR has started stocking tigers in several places again. You can add Black Hills to the list too. If memory serves me right, its been since 2006 since they have stocked tigers anywhere but the western part of the Potomac.
  16. Good to see you checking in WV! Sorry to hear about the success this year. I had a REALLY dissappointing year last year so I can definitely relate for sure. The year can't be too bad, you've caught smallies! Good luck if you get out! Not sure when I'll be getting out again, moving to Frederick starting tomorrow (anyone want to help? LOL) and still on the job hunt. Woo hoo??
  17. Hey Bill, shore fishing is still a good option. The last I checked, the water temps were in the low 70's. So I see no reason why they would pull deep. Just a heads up, the last I checked, the backwash area is pretty choked out with hydrilla so top water might be your only option other than dropping tubes into holes in the hydrilla around the tubes. The stick ups is pretty thick with hydrilla too but it is still fishable. Spinnerbaits, shallow running cranks (or even wake baits), plastics and top water would be options there.
  18. Those little green plants are duckweed and it can get pretty think from time to time. Frogs and toads work well on top (for some reason, the Rage Shad isn't as effective). I'll throw tubes and soft stick baits mostly the rest of the time. Yeah, the discharge gets pretty "trashed up" with goofballs that don't know better.
  19. Oh wow! I thought that place was drained and gone forever! Before the developments went in there, I pulled some decent bass out of there. Good to hear its coming back around.
  20. Ken, I was going to text you sunday..... I was out obviously after you. LOL! When I got to the spot, I noticed the trails in the grass and figured it was you. I did get one that morning, nothing big but didn't get skunked. In my experience, the levels are CRITICAL for success at the warm waters. I typically don't hit there until later in the year as well but the canal is a great option. Sprirobass, King's sounds so familiar but can't for the life of me place where it is.
  21. Sorry to hear that Kevin! That really sucks! Best wishes on a speedy recovery!!! I thought I had missed all the night fishing outings this year. I'll have to see if I can get a "kitchen pass" to make it out at least for a little while tonight.
  22. Kevin, I kinda figured that was your vehicle. LOL! Had I had a little more time, I would have swung over around and said hey! I was figuring with the rain we got the water would be murky back that way. That was another reason I hit the stick ups. I was really surprised how bad the grass is over there! I thought I would've had a little more room on top to burn the lipless cranks than I did. There were several times that I thought I was going to have to break my line because of the mass of grass that I picked up! The bass I caught, actually hit the crank on the fall on a LONG cast.
  23. I did manage to get a lunchtime outing in today. Popped over to Black Hills for a little while. Managed one on a Red Eye Shad. Nothing big, maybe 14-15 inches.
  24. Thanks Ken! Have my daughter this weekend so probably won't be getting out. Good luck! And let us know how you do!
