Maryland's Who's who!
Welcome to THE boards Nate! Great post! I've seen beaver pond but didn't realize there were any bass in there. Will have to check that out some time. I was under the impression that Wolf's went out of business. I haven't been down past there since I've heard that though. Can you confirm that?

Maryland's Who's who!
Took advantage of the nice weather at lunch today. Popped over to black hills to see what was going on. Fished some soft plastics but no luck. I know the problem was the area I chose, water was just too shallow for the water temps yet. Had I chose one of the other areas I fish from shore, I'm thinking I could have fared a little better. Just a heads up for those that may not know, and thanks from the reminder Brian, Black Hills opens up for boats on March 1st.

Maryland's Who's who!
Ah yes! Another spinner bugger! LOL! Good to know! I've heard of Spoonplugging before. Actually heard about it on here. That's something I haven't tried yet.

Maryland's Who's who!
Welcome to THE boards pagliaroj! I used to live in Williamsport so there are a few options for you. Obviously, you have the Potomac to fish for a wide range of species. Small lakes close by would include; Big Pool, Blairs Valley, Cunningham Falls and Greenbrier. There are a few smaller bodies of water too: the C&O canal in Williamsport, the Sharpsburg pond and Middletown pond. Boat wise, the lakes are all electric only. The Potomac, in Washington county, is relatively shallow except above dam 4 (the big slackwater) and dam 5 (4 Locks). These areas get a lot of pleasure boaters in the huge cruiser style boats in the warmer months. I've done ok getting around in the other areas in my 16' jon with a little 15HP outboard. I tend to stay away for the deeper areas that hold the cruisers since they have no real consideration for the smaller vessels. Hope this helps! I'm sure a few more will chime in as well. Nice report Kevin! Glad to see you're still getting some action. I've been out once lately, hitting one of the smaller lakes in Montgomery county. Still blanked for the year. Might be a little while before I can get out again. Hopefully it's not too long, I'm getting that twitch again! LOL

spinnerbait setup
Tour KVD 7'2" MH/XF paired with an Energy E750PT (5.1:1) spooled with 17# Sufix Siege. I typically throw 3/8 and 1/2oz models but will throw 1/8oz and 3/4oz on this set up as well.

Maryland's Who's who!
Thanks for the added comments Allen! It's been a while since I've put in on the Big Slackwater and while I knew 4 Locks was deep enough, I haven't put in there for some silly reason. Early on in the season will be best on the Big Slackwater, once the weather starts getting nice you get the big cruiser/party boats on there (gonna assume the same for 4 Locks). Figured I'd throw that out there since you're trying to get use to the new boat Shane.

Maryland's Who's who!
Its been a few weeks since I've been out. I did hit PEPCO with BrianinMD and Slaynbass365. The sunday that we went wasn't extremely cold. We hit the warm water area for a while but they weren't pumping any warm water, even when they increased the flow for the kayakers, go figure. Ended up hitting the canal (at least the sections that weren't froze over) and between the 3 of us we managed 5 hits with no hook ups. Need to get out soon as well, just not sure yet when that may be. Good luck hunting Kevin!

Maryland's Who's who!
Hi Shane, Welcome to THE boards! Only 2 places come to mind on the Potomac in Washington county. Those 2 places are Big Slackwater (just above dam 4 and 4 Locks (above dam 5). I've fished Big Slackwater before and you'd have a good stretch you could fish, can't comment on how far you'd be able to run on 4 Locks. Maybe some other guys can chime in to give ya a little more input.

Maryland's Who's who!
No reports here. Just wanted to give the heads up that with this snow and stuff we got today, I had to switch things around and won't be able to make it tomorrow either.

I believe Munkin attends this yearly. Hopefully he'll be able to chime in on whether sunday wouldn't be a waste. Looks like sunday would be the only day I'll be able to join you guys.

Best Salesman
This is interesting. While I'll agree that Kevin usually doesn't show a lot of facial emotion when he's promoting a product, I do hear the enthusiasm in his voice.

Sayers Lake
Hi Mike, Welcome to THE boards! I picked up one of the 2 different maps that I am aware of right outside the campground at the visitors center. I know my dad picked up the other one but not sure where he may be got it. Someone at the visitors center may be able to point you in the right direction on that or maybe someone else can chime in to help. IMO, both maps are needed to have an accurate understanding of the lake.

Winter Time Cranking
I read an article just yesterday that KVD had written about cold water cranking. He mentions crankin in lower 40 degree temps as well as down into the 30's (my guess would be upper 30's) in the article. Haven't tried it but found that interesting.

Beginner Hollow Body Frog?
I've used the Spro for several years now and have had success with it. Late last season, I picked up Strike King's version. To me, Strike King's version is easier to walk where the Spro has more of a bobbing (up and down) retrieve but could just be how I'm working it. Knowing that I get a different action working these two frogs the same way, means I'll keep both in my arsenal to show them something different when the other isn't working.

I should have seen this one coming but still a little shocked, they cancelled the 2012 MD fishing expo in Timonium this year.

How Many Baits( Hooks ) On Alabama Rig In Your State?
MD DNR has this posted on their site currently. "The Department defines the Alabama Rig as an umbrella rig. The umbrella rig, as described on page 39 of the 2012 Fishing Guide, may not have more than two baits or lures which have hooks. Additional hooks can be removed to bring the rig into compliance with regulations." http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/news/story.asp?story_id=208&title=Reminder-to-Fishermen-on-the-Use-of-%27Alabama-Rigs%27

Good Fishing Logs(Journals)?
Great tip J. I should add that I use the Casio Pathfinder (the fishing version) watch I have to mark when I catch my bass. It helps limit the amount of things I have to remember when I get off the water. I might have to look into the voice recorder to help out a little more.

Good Fishing Logs(Journals)?
I've been using a fishing log for a several years now. Like Red, I set up an excel spreadsheet to record a bunch of things I've pulled from different logs I've checked out over the years. Location, date, moon phase, weather conditions, water conditions, # of bass, lengths, weight, baits, presentations are several of the categories I track. It's pretty easy to modify using the spreadsheet too. I just add a new tab at the start of the year and I'm set. I even track overall yearly totals and how many bass I catch in different weight ranges. It's really up to you on how detailed you want it to be.

Maryland's Who's who!
26" is citation size if I remember right! Nice job Kevin! I made it out once over the break. It was a last minute decision, otherwise I would have let you know Kevin. I hit PEPCO the monday after Christmas. Got there at the butt crack of dawn and the parking lot was completely empty. I thought this should be fun! I had checked the levels before I left and they were right where I wanted them too. Hiked up to the discharge and what do I find? They're not pumping any water??? Stayed there for an hour and a half and nothing the whole time. Didn't have the luxury of staying out all day so wanted to get something so I headed up to the canal. Managed one little dink out of the canal right behind the power plant on a tube. I did do a little exploring and found a few more spots that looked REALLY good, now I just need a little time to check them out more thoroughly. Got my license already so I'm good to go, just need to have some free time to get out now!
