  1. I've had some success with the 2.5 as well. Bluegill and Sexy Shad and Sexy Sunfish have been my best colors so far.
  2. Ken, I should have clarified a little more. Those barriers are nothing more than the road closed 2x4 barriers that they use at the boat ramp over the winter. I did step across the one to make a few casts to parallel the shore. Even if you don't cross over the barrier like I did, I think there's enough room along the sides of them to effectively fish the tubes still. It's been a few years since I've done it but I used to go over there at lunch and fish the tubes and catch several by just flippin tubes down in the holes in the hydrilla. I've seen some good fish (in the 4-6# range) in there even in the hottest part of the day!
  3. I ended up getting out for about an hour and a half or so. Just hit the backwash area at Black Hills. Had 3 hits on a Spro Bronze Eye, guessing 2 or those hits were just little farts nipping at the legs. The last hit, which happened to be the last cast of the evening, turned out to be one about a pound and a half. Would work the frog about 5-6' with quick hops and then would kill it for a few seconds. This one hit the 3rd time I killed it. Not too bad for the short time I was able to get out. By the way, when did they put up the barriers on the tubes? Guess its been a little while since I've been over there.
  4. I had half a thought about going for toothy critters which would require getting a little wet but not sure I want to drive that far for them. Will probably stick local this evening (IF I make it out).
  5. No doubt there Kevin! Numbers are still down from what I usually average but I had a horrible year last year and numbers are up from last years totals this time so that's a good sign. There's a chance I'll get out this evening but not 100%. Keeping my fingers crossed the stars will align and I'll get out!
  6. Someone has to give you a hard time! LOL! Good luck up there and don't forget to send some pics down!
  7. Given the fact that you took the pic of the big one I did catch, I'd think you'd remember. Haven't you left for NY yet? LOL! You'll get out of your funk soon! Maybe those bass up in NY will cooperate a little more. Unless the water is plagued with skinny, tiny pike that is.
  8. Keep your head up 301! It happens to all of us. BrianinMD watched me loose a real good one several months back on a spinnerbait (something that I don't loose bass on very often) that wasn't more than 5-6' away from me. Later on that evening I redeemed myself with a 6 pounder.
  9. Definitely agree with Ken on this one! Congrats!!! Not sure when I'm getting out next. This week is looking crazy for me too. Will try to get out at some point here! Getting that little twitch for lack of fishing!
  10. Sounds to me like you had a run in with a musky.
  11. I used them quite a bit when they first came out. I've caught a total of one largemouth and a 33" tiger musky on them and that's all. Maybe someone else has had better luck. My suggestion, put them up on Ebay if they're selling for a decent price.
  12. Congrats on the boat 301! Peter, how did you make out at the Urbana fishing management area? I got out briefly last night myself (maybe an hour and a half). No takers for me last night either.
  13. Peter, here's the link to Washington county's boat ramps. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/washington.asp I've used Dargens Bend, Snyders Landing, Taylors Landing, Big Slackwater (above dam4), Williamsport and McCoys Ferry. Dargens doesn't have much room (limited space due) unless you have a jet but there is a little bit you can fish. Snyders is the one I use the most, good mix of fish can be caught, there are a few shallow spots that you have to watch out for but can be easily spotted reading the river. Taylors boat ramps are tricky. There's 2 ramps there, the lower ramp is shallow and can be a royal pain to launch from there and the upper one has a good bit of current (so a two man launch would be best). Big Slackwater gets the big cruiser boats that have little regard for smaller vessels (so I usually avoid that place during the summer) but you can definitely give your outboard a good run there. Williamsport and McCoys are boat pretty shallow and I don't do much more than put along with the outboard there to save the trolling motor. Not sure how the fishing is at 4 locks but its deeper and I've seen bigger boats in there as well so my take would be about the same conditions as the Big Slackwater. I did get out for a little while last evening. Hit Black Hills again (from outside the park). No takers last night for me. Hoping to be able to get out for a little while this evening, not positive on whether that'll happen or not yet.
  14. I talked to my one buddy here at work that fished the lake. Turns out he hasn't fished it in YEARS and can't remember anything about it. Got some things going on right after work this evening so if I hit anywhere it'll probably be Black Hills for a little while. Maybe tomorrow evening I may get a chance to run up there and check it out. Congrats DCFD on the new boat! Sorry to hear the insurance company wouldn't give you much for the one that tangled with the tornado. That really sucks! As for launches, I believe I had posted before about DNR's boat ramp guide. If you need the link again, let me know. I haven't hit any of the ramps in Frederick or Montgomery county on the Potomac. If you want a list of the spots I've hit in Washington county, let me know.
  15. I knew there was a pond in Urbana and from what I was told, it was shallow and really got choked out with grass. I google mapped this lake and it's not where I was expecting it to be. Looks interesting, will ask around with some of my friends that aren't on here to see if I can get any info about it.
  16. I was hoping to get out this evening for a little while but those plans fell through. I might be able to get out tomorrow evening or thursday evening. Not sure where I want to hit yet. Hmmmmm..........
  17. My hat saved a few years ago. Was fishing with a couple friends on my boat. My one buddy was on the front deck with me and went to set the hook on a "fish". When I looked up to see what was going on, all I saw was his little crankbait flyin straight towards me. All I had time to do was tuck my chin in and WHACK, got nailed right in the forehead with his crank. Fortunately, he uses ultra light gear so didn't really hurt much at all. Luckily, that's the closest I've come to an eye/head injury fishing.
  18. Ditto
  19. I've been hooked twice, one just above my knee and the other (a musky treble, in two of my fingers). The one in my knee wasn't too bad, had to push it through and cut it off. The other wasn't as easy. Tried removing a hook from the from a 45" musky and just as I touched the hook, the musky kicked its head up and drove two of the points of the rear treble hook in my pointer and middle finger while the front hook was still attached to the musky. Finally got some help and had to go to the hospital to get the hook removed.

When you get that done, post pics! I'd love to see that! I got a tat as well. I posted a pic a while back when I got mine. Have always liked the arm bands but needed to personalize it to fit me. A couple of my buddies and I came up with my design. Gammy EWG hooks! Very pleased with how mine turned out!
  21. While the majority of my musky action has been in the back wash area down by the boat ramp and that's been a few years since I've had much luck in there with them, I wasn't in the park itself fishing this evening. I was back off Wynnfield road (spelling). In along the rip rap is where I usually see them in there but I was back around to the left from that this evening. Any musky in there now is gonna be huge since they haven't stocked tigers in there since 2004. I've also seen musky back by the 121 bridge, back the arm past the 121 bridge, back by the stick ups and right by the visitors center too. I did have one other encounter this year with a musky (with the same resuly, getting cut off) down in the backwash area. That one took one of my favorite spinnerbaits.
  22. Congrats on another great bass David! I be jealous! I got out this evening for a little while, I hit Black Hills again. On my very last cast, I got a hit. Reeled down and set the hook, SNAP! Clean cut. So my guess a musky decided a 7" ribbon tail worm looked good. LOL!
  23. And a PM sent to you Ken.
  24. Those are some great bass David! Congrats! Sorry to hear how your trip started out Fat Boy! Glad you hung in there and ended up wetting some line! You posted some great pics! Good to see 301-fisherman, Ken and Basser714 catching some too! Got out a little on sunday, had a little time before I picked up my daughter so I popped in to the pond in Sharpsburg. I only had about 15 minutes so as I walked around the pond, I spooked a bass from right up along the shore line. Made a cast out past it and swam the ribbon tail worm I had on over by it and killed it. That's all that was needed, it came right on over and sucked it up and started swimming off. Turned out to be about a 15 incher. Took my daughter over to middletown to fish later on in the day, no luck there. Hopefully, I can get out a time or two this week!
  25. Welcome to THE boards Ken! More Great pics Fat Boy! 301, I don't get to Bog Pool often, but I always have a good time fishing there. Usually numbers but I've had several outings there where I've found the big girls in there. Got out this morning myself for a few hours. Fished the back wash area again. Managed 5 small largemouths. 4 of them came on Red Eye Shads and one on a drop shot.
