  1. i throw buzz toads/frogs all the time , just don't know about following up with a frog , are you talking about a hollow body frog as a follow up ?? i would think most people follow up a miss with a texas rigged plastic such as a stickbait or fluke , if You need two frog/toad rods , get two . good luck ....
  2. those guys were on here spaming their products are got shutdown ....
  3. get that Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool for $129 !!!!!
  4. why don'y you look into buying a nicer reel but a used one ? i'm sure you can find one probably in the flea market section .
  5. john hopkins swimbaits , he can make any thing you want ....
  6. get the Okuma Citrix 7'11'' extra heavy and pair it with a Okuma Citrix 364 reel ...........
  7. post in the '' fishing tackle '' section ....
  8. i presently have a Revo Toro 51 in 5.4:1 gears on my swimbait rod but am gonna get a Lew's BB2 Pro with 5.1:1 gears to put on it , can't wait !!! glad your liking the set-up !!!!
  9. i don't go to the long beach show , just the san diego show , i met a few of your family at the West Coast Custom Rod and tackle show in Pasadena years back , i wish they still had that show , or they would have something like it !
  10. call it whatever you want but the truth is , that excelor is just a cheap copy of the lexa , with plastic bushings instead of bearings & riveted knobs !! if those were two different shimanos which would you pick ? almost like choosing between a curado and a caius ....
  11. what's a ST-36 XXX hook ????
  12. i much prefer a mojo rig to a heavy carolina rig anyday !!!! i use a 1/8 tungsten mojo weight .
  13. the Lew's MCS brake system is really good , don't know about the excelor but the Lews is pretty failsafe if you keep the dial on the brakes on 5 or above then after you get used to it dial it down . if you ever used an Abu Garcia Revo like the sx , you will love the braking set-up on the Lews , way easier ....
  14. The Excellent has only 1 corrosion resistant bearing compared to 9 on the Lew's & I'd take any bearing over a plastic bushing any day , just my opinion .
  15. don't know if this guy is still in business , but maybe give him a call , he lives in your town . he does fly rods but can wrap that guide for you .... 1113 Andrew Drive Morgantown, WV 26508 andrew.nix@comcast.net Tel: 304-216-4388
  16. if you live near Uler, West Virginia , give Vandalia rodworks a call
  17. i feel with the better bearings and more of them in the right places , better braking system, and removable knobs , the Lew's is a lot better buy ..
  18. check out Tackle Tours review of the Excelor .
  19. i would take a 10 bearing reel like the Lew's reel any day over a 6 bearing reel . i also know that Lew's customer service is great , that being said , the choice for me is obvious , Lew's .... by the way , the MCS braking system on the Lew's is fantastic , i have a Tournament MG with that same braking set-up and it's Very good ..
  20. how would it compliment it ??? are you trying to go finesse with frog fishing ???
  21. if you and alex's opinion on a ideal toad and frog rod is the same , go with the toad face . it's just that all blanks/rods are different even though they have the same power/action , if that's a gamble you want to take , by all means , i hope you like the rod and it suits you and your needs
  22. for a frog road it is always best to have too much rod than not enough ............
  23. i will always prefer a heavy powered frog rod over a medium heavy . have you held the 4.5 medium heavy ?? is it a stout rod with good backbone ??? does it have a fast tip ?? is it not more of a moderate action once the rod is loaded up with a fish on ?? if you fish in weed pockets , mats , or dense grass , i would suggest you get a heavy powered rod , it would blow if the rod is not as stout as you think it might be by getting the medium heavy ..
  24. i was checking out reviews for both reels on TW , Lew's LFS = very good -Daiwa excelor = not so good ....
  25. that's always the dilemma !!! to be quite honest with you , that rod is pretty plain as far as components for the price , if i were you , i'd check out a Phenix Ultra in heavy / fast whether it would be 7' or 7'7'' ( or you might even like the 7'3'' XH ) and see if you like it because the blank is only about $130 , then you can pick out components you want including the guide train , have it built to your specs , have a great custom rod for a reasonable cost .
