  1. how stiff are they ? will the bottom open up easily or at least without a fight ?
  2. did you take the pic with a cell phone ? when i do real close up pics with my cell phone , it shows up any dust like that .
  3. very clean and tight thread and epoxy work
  4. you should of quoted him an outrageous price ....
  5. just go down one size and they work great .
  6. Owner wacky hooks are the best wacky hook - perfect design , super sharp , and definitely strong ( actually caught a 12 lb. catfish on when while wacky rigged fishing a 5'' stick bait , hook held up perfectly !!! ) as previous posts stated , i also use a 1/0 hook for 5'' stick baits ...
  7. i was checking out the Point Blank blanks but they say the actions are labeled differently so it's hard to tell what you're gonna get there hasn't been much clarification on them in reviews ....
  8. that's the best way to learn and focus on a certain bait . i do that once a month regardless to get in tune with a bait i'm not throwing much and i know it will produce .
  9. all baits react differently to split rings . some they help , some they don't , some doesn't change the action at all ..... expiriment with them on the baits you use to see first hand ....
  10. if you want the best , sharpest , strong hook , - get some Owner ST-41's , best treble hook ever made ....
  11. i love the floater in trout (dark)
  12. i'm suprised you didn't go with the Dragger ( 7'4'' 5 power heavy / fast )
  13. sounds good except for handle length , after my first custom with a handle length of 16'' for both my casting rods and spinning rods , that short of a handle would put a serious damper on my fishing . i totally understand peoples tastes are different , for me fishing longer handles and 18'' handles on swimbait rods , it makes me cringe ,LOL !!! i haven't fished a rod with that short of a handle since fishing an original Carrot Stix (same length ) .
  14. if you fish shallow (3-10 ft. ) , give the SG line-thru a try , it get's killed ...
  15. 15 lb. braid sounds like your winner ...
  16. i might try the shine glides , i really like Savage Gear baits . i throw the line thru , shallow runner and the 3d real trout a lot , not much a fan of glide baits but if i'm going to try to get more into them , i might as well try the shine glide . EDIT - i was actually talking about the Savage Gear 8'' glide swimmer , that shine glide reminds me of the tru-tungsten swimbait ....
  17. which ones piqued your interest ??? have you already got the Huddgill ??
  18. iv'e stated before in other posts that while in tackle shops , i always check out most all brands of rods and i have definitley checked out quite a few dobyns rods that looked horrible !! loose wraps , pitted cork , sloppy epoxy work , crooked guides , and crooked reel seats . their craftmanship is not craftmanship at all but just embarrassing , i bet that was not a second ....... why don't you just get a custom rod built to your needs , a Phenix Ulta 7'7'' heavy/fast would make a killer frog rod !!! good tip with a boatload of backbone ....
  19. wish i could go up there to check out the blanks they might have !! i just wait for the local fishing show (Fred Hall show) and check out Phenix rods blem bin , they usually have about 200 different rod blanks , some have just finish blems , i scored a 7'8'' M1 spinning blank last time for $20 , i'm going to go through all the blanks and get at least 4-5 !!! can't wait !!! good score !!!!
  20. add an ABEC9 rated bearing to the equation and it becomes ridiculous , some go for $190 each bearing !!! .......
  21. looks similar to a Jackall Giron , seems you could connect the two and have something very similar
  22. a great all around blank for large mouth is the Phenix Ultra 7'7'' MH/F ...........
  23. make it easy on yourself and get some tungsten jigs .........
  24. give DVT a call for a custom rod to be made , I've had many talks with him and he is very knowledgable , patient , and will help you with all questions and concerns
