  1. whenever your out fishing!10" worm on a shakey head will catch em at the same times a 4" shakey will..your numbers may go down, but quality will go up. And don't be surprised by the small fish that will hit this offering. To be more specific,i don't drag worms till late spring/all summer..not that they don't work early,i just like to throw spinnerbaits & jigs earlier in the season.
  2. Terrible news..He has such a passion for the sport, and loved to share his knowledge with others. Rest in peace Jose, you will truly be missed.
  3. Krikey! She got me in da death roll! A true man vs beast story,i like it gambler! Them snakeheads becoming overpopulated in FLA??
  4. Grease on the gear teeth, oil in the bearings.
  5. your killin me with this one wookie! iv'e been researching ever since your post. i had one for years,i think it also came in a brown/yellow leg color..nice,heavy foam frog that looked real natural in the water..exposed belly-button type weight? I can even picture its packaging!!
  6. i'm glad you brought up the "expelling" end of this! iv'e caught 2 bass in the past..one with a corroded hook eye stickin out, and another with the plastic worm/wide gap hook trying to exit! Its amazing that a hook would pass through the entire digestive system with no harm to the bass.
  7. One of my best number days was fishing a wicked downpour columbus day weekend a couple years ago...set up near the lake dam/spillway and it was runnin real hard creating a solid current dead center of the spillway..these fish would just stem the current and slam anything you threw at em. started w/ a jig, went to a spinner bait and ended up using a super spook for some insane topwater action.
  8. I'll be out on monday, but now that its spring, there calling for snow showers/rain the next 2 days!! figures after the warmest winter on record!
  9. Hey SirSnookalot, How do you keep the all braid reels from not spinning around the spool arbor? Just wondering because i did that once in my "early braid days" and thought i bought a defective reel! The line would keep spinning on the spool every time i set up on a fish, and i thought i had a busted drag..i always run at least a few turns of backing/mono on my fresh & saltwater reels.
  10. Good for you! If its for youth anglers, why not start out by your monthly fishing reports on how you did, good or bad..don't have to give up your spots, but just how and why you fished where you chose to. Being a youth column, like lkn4bss said, push an open question policy and ask for it from the members. Just start w/ the basics,ie..knot/rig tying, what presentations for what areas,etc.. Have fun and good luck, the fish will always be there after a good education early in life!
  11. Do they even make an ALL blue td-7? Iv'e seen the bright blue back/white bottom W/ gill splatter red in a td-7,but have never seen an all blue top & bottom rapala anywhere?? What are you looking to imitate if i may ask? Or is it just a magic color for you?? i know that feeeling....
  12. Yeah, keep checking out the "fishing flea market" forum..just picked up a very nice revo stx at a very fair price this week (used it today for 4 hours!) There are a great bunch of members here on BassResource.com. [dont know why i chose the dancin chikie..its just how i feel right now.....................]
  13. d**n man,i'm watching it now and he's bonefishing in bimini!! was watching "major league fishing" and the dvr had it set @10:30 for charlie moore ...i think it will be on again sometime this week..
  14. Fish it however you would fish any creature bait..Just picked up 2 packs last weekend and have been slooow draggin it w/ a 3/16 tungsten bullet on the bottom in this cool spring waters.Worked well for a few fish on a slow day. Has a more subtle action than most "craw" imitations, but thats just what i was looking for! Skeet designed it with a craw & bream crossover pattern in mind. Next i'm gonna rig it on a swim-jig trailer.
  15. That's a great inexpensive landing tool that Marty posted. nothing like a bass on topwater, thrashing like mad when your going to try and lip it! Now,add in nightime and the hook-in-hand chances go up!
  16. Charlie Moore a yankee fan??? Guess you haven't caught his show!!
  17. Thanks capt. shane,i'm sure to watch it! may sound like a stupid question, but i have to ask..do you release the snakeheads,or kill em? Its a law in new york that they must be killed and reported to a d.e.c. officer as to where they are caught. highly invasive species.
  18. Just like RW said, send it back..iv'e use uni, improved clinch, dropper loop, Palomar knots and never had a break off with this line. i actually dropped down to 10# test on a lot of my set ups and have not broke a rig off except when stuck up on a good timber/stump,and even then i've gotten jigs back w/ straight hooks.!
  19. Saw schools of gold shiners bustin' up like crazy the past week, unfortunately, there were about a dozen snapping turtles in the cove causing the commotion!!
  20. One of my favorite bass haunts is a walk in access pond. iv'e fished it long enough to know what lures to present at certain times of year, and at certain structures. its a small few acre pond that has some nice varied structure..fallen timber/submerged stumps, heavy mats in the summer,a nice deep point..i like to change up whenever i move around from spot to spot. maybe a t-rig worm in the weeds,a horny toad across the mats, and pitch a jig on the timber/stumps,popper @ dusk.. or you could just do what 99% of the local anglers do and bring one rod and a pack of 5" senkos and fish anywhere and do just fine!!!
  21. i would not drill a hole to "empty" water?? its just going to take on more water faster..just do what ChrisAW said and choke the toad every few casts!! sounds dirty! One discussion about hollow-body frogs that grabbed my interest was the fact that the real buoyant/tight-sealed body frogs may fish well, easy to walk the dog,no water intrusion,..but the frogs plastic body will not collapse as easily for a solid hook set as the "softer" frogs.? Maybe the take-on-water trade-off is worth the extra hook sets? Made a lot of sense to me,but i have to run some tests myself this year when the froggin season begins. I got a bunch of spro's this past winter that i'm dying to try out.
  22. Thanks for the article bird dog..strike king makes a 1/4 ounce "tour-grade" football jig, just picked up 4 of em last week. they use gammy hooks though..
  23. Same here BD,it was on a pistol-grip combo which served me well for many years.
  24. And you don't have to strip off the entire spool..leave it 1/3-1/2 full and just re-spool when it gets low.
  25. same here too crestliner as others have stated! between casting an 11' surf rod,and casting for bass most of my life,i now have bad tendinitis in my right elbow and in my shoulder too.. i had it so bad at the end of the 2010 season that i had to take a few weeks off of work. PT, cortisone shot and an anti-inflammatory made it "bearable" to return to work, but i still feel it everyday..[d**n,i should have taken up stamp collecting!] The arm band definitely helps out, taking the stress off of the elbow.
