  1. Agree with everyone. I fish them mainly off the shoreline, any time of day. They work real good for busting fish well off the shore line. Conventional wisdom is using them in fairly calm water, which isn't true at all, it's just fun watching a fish come and smash it. I use them in 2-4' surf quite often, offshore when working a weedline or fishing under birds. Where ever I'm fishing I always have a top water with me.
  2. Leader is optional. Fading doesn't bother me, I don't think the braid color makes much difference, except if one is line watcher. I'm using green and orange is freshwater, green, orange and yellow in salt. Durability is dependent on where your'e fishing. Heavy timber, canal sides with rough brush, bridges, cement pylons, over reefs, it will need to be trimmed back from time to time. Pond fishing, open water with natural vegetation without a lot of hard stuff, should last a while.
  3. I suppose just glich, over the last couple of months I could not upload, tried yesterday with my same settings as always and I was successful
  4. It really depends on how I'm fishing and what I'm fishing for. I'd give the nod to more sensitive rod over the reel fishing contact type baits. Fishing conditions that are going to be harsher on my gear, the reel gets more consideration.
  5. I did test one. My buddy has a custom 8' Connley rod with micros, beautiful rod. We both use the same cabo 40 reel with 20# braid, I wanted to cast his as I had thought about getting one made myself. The rod casted very nice, deciding not to go custom the rod I bought with standard spinning guides casts just about the same. I'm not pro or con, if there is an advantage I didn't see it.
  6. Most of the beds I see are fairly close to shore. Being in a boat I would think it's difficult to spot them on beds, as the shoreline in some of those areas are covered up with weeds. I've fished the Boynton/Woolbright area many many times. I mostly fish places that are quite bit clearer and from shore, none on beds where I go. As of late the ones I am catching are in deeper water and caught as result of blind not sight casting, lure of choice has been blue and chrome flat rap.
  7. I have no intention of harming any fish, but it happens and I don't give a second thought. As I've always said if was that intent on not harming a fish, I wouldn't fish at all. What may be ironic is placing one species preservation over another, which is totally self serving. This is a bass site and people want to catch bass, fishermen of other species may not care. Case in point using a bait fish to catch a game fish, is not that baitfish entitled to it's life? In the wild predatory fish do eat bait fish, by the same token some of those predatory fish we target are eaten by other predatory fish. Unless I'm catching a species on the brink of extinction, I don't take it too much to heart.
  8. It's nothing but being there at the right time. If we could control the size of fish we caught, each one be a monster, it doesn't work that way. There may big one down there, doesn't mean it's first to the lure. Gotta have a little luck too.
  9. I do nothing but spinning, own quite few brands. Of every single reel I own the smoothest is a trion 20, about 8 years old, makes some of the $200 I have reels look bad. I do have a problem not only with the trion but 2 of my 3 supremes, the spool gets bottom loaded, I have to put a little less line on, not a big deal. Opposite my 2 stradics get top loaded, easy fix with a few shims, each of mine have about 6 or 7. I use my Pfluegers in freshwater, they're going strong for years, if I need to replace one most likely a president.
  10. I walk the bank and sight cast for them, I've seen nothing on beds yet. The mayans and tilapia are keeping them off, catching lots of mayans. Once they get on the beds I have to tease the crap out of them, may take 10 or more casts. The one in my avatar was caught (a couple of months ago) in an area that doesn't have a lot of vegetation and the water is generally pretty clear, spotting them is easy.
  11. I did take some photos of that AJ, where they are I don't know.......lol. I do believe they were take on 35 mm film, scanned and put onto my computer about 15 years ago. I had a computer crash lost everything, but they were backed up on a cd. I've been looking for those vacation cds for 10 years, somehow when I moved to Florida they didn't make the trip with me. I may still have the hard copies in my attic, if they aren't faded out.
  12. If I interpret the OP correctly there seems to be a wonderment of why this lady reacted in a sensitive manner to job criticism. The answer is quite simple, not every one has the same personality, some handle critique and others don't. Being a former business owner I'd probably say this, unless one is in a supervisory position it isn't their place to say anything directly to another employee. Ya got a beef, take it to the supervisor or owner of the biz, it's their job to handle it. One thing about the net, you can sound a whole tougher than you might be in real life, that's great when all is well. When adversity strikes their tune can change. Have many stories during my business life, one I never forget. I was buying an item for couple of years, the PA decides to deal with some one else, that's business and it goes that way. Year later I bump into the guy at bar, " got laid off life is great, going out on my boat every day". Summer ends and so does his unemployment, get a call from him begging me for a job. Even though he sold me out for a few cents a pound (which was going into his own pocket) I offered him a job. Glad to say he didn't take it, I didn't really need or want him, I'm just a sensitive guy and he needed the money.
  13. At first I thought the course was piece of crap, then I watched them play. Tom Terrific's explanation of the course made a lot of sense. Once I became aware of all the elevation changes, the greens, I could see the lack of US Open type rough wasn't needed to make this a tough track. Hate to walk it especially carrying my bag. Any man that has won 14 majors, many World Golf Champion events and about 80 tournaments in total knows exactly what he's doing wrong. The man knows how to play golf, he's too stubborn to play, thinks tinkering with his swing is the answer. Blind man can see his problem, he over swings wanting that power, each time it's a push to the right or pull to the left. All he has to do is play within himself, just too stubborn to do it. Hate to say it but unless he comes to his senses, he's done.
  14. Sure they will. I have quite a few top water lures, every single one down the line catches fish. I personally use a storm chug a bug 3/8 oz most of the time, can cast it well on any of my rods. I like that lure because it appeals to my eye, don't think the fish are as fussy as me.
  15. Took my first trip this year yesterday. It didn't live up to the hype I've been hearing, met fly fishermen that fishes daily and he said it was hype too. I did get a couple of snook off the beach as well as a flounder. That beach is one my most favorite places to go, I generally catch fish but that's not why. It's clean, fresh, friendly people walking their dogs, it's just a lovely place.
  16. I'm not a grouper expert at first I thought it was a gag, I'm not so sure the markings don't appear to be quite the same. The one's I've caught have been offshore over reefs, black grouper too. A must is knowing the species, some may be legal and some not. Nice groupers none the less and they do put up a very respectable fight. Given the water they were caught from, catching them on bass gear would be a ball. Offshore in 80 fow, no.
  17. Yeh ! What's the need for bifocals or progressive if you can read with out them? I got my first pair of progressive 25 years ago, they were terrible and I took them back after a couple of days. I immediately went to another optician with the same prescription, they were perfect with no adjustment period. Been wearing them ever since, I love them.
  18. Enjoyed watching it yesterday, that course is awesome and I've never seen anything like it. Fox was a big disappointment in my eyes. The broadcasters were weak and boring, not that they didn't know their stuff but they lacked golf broadcasting skills and polish. Like him or not Johnny Miller IMO is one of the best color commentators, Gregg Norman didn't come close with his analysis. Joe Buck was equally as poor in the anchor. They could have done a better job with the graphics too, using the shot tracker more than I normally see was a nice touch.
  19. I could make compelling arguments on several sides of interactions in the workplace as well as away from it. Most of it would be nothing but pure babble, being a salesman I know how to do that...........lol. I'm not the most tolerant person, age along with maturity has altered that somewhat. When I'm dealing with a clerk, restaurant server, gas station attendant or whatever, many are doing what they are doing because they can't do any thing else. Telling them how I would do it usually goes on deaf ears and reprimanding them should be done by their manager, not me. If I have a beef I'll go to the manager. It doesn't pay for me to get upset, or upset at some else and look like a jerk. One thing really bothers me, although it isn't my place to say anything. Going into the market, drug store, etc., as the clerk is ringing up the order the customer is babbling away on their cell phone. I see that as total disrespect. Phone call can't wait a few seconds, if it's that important I'm not even in the store, I'm talking in private. Phone rings while I'm there, I either don't answer or tell the caller I call back in 5 minutes.
  20. In South Florida many of them are not lakes. They are dug out ponds (fish bowls) with little or no real structure, they may or may not have vegetation. It is not overly taxing walking around these ponds, it's pretty easy and relaxing. Coming from the land of the Great Lakes and now spending a good deal of time fishing the Atlantic, I can see the difference in trying to locate fish. Without a doubt fishing the larger bodies of water does require some know how, not so in a Florida man made pond. Bass fishing in these ponds is probably the easiest fishing I've done in my life, there is really not much to it. When I say I walk around with a couple of lures in my pocket, I couldn't be more serious, it's literally shooting fish in a barrel. A challenge, hardly..........fun, tons of it.
  21. There really isn't any thing wrong with a Walmart swivel provided they're used as line connectors, not to reduce line twist. For anti twist a power swivel or BB are better options. A swivel breaking is an anomaly, one of which I've never experienced, they shouldn't break. That said Fisher swivels are so small they go can go thru the guides, rated at 100#, I threw them out they were too small. Offhand I think their #3 is rated at 125#, I'd like to have the fish on my line that's going to break that. Too many stories of fish being unbuttoned, one I remember in particular was a sailfish, hurts to lose them. When it comes to tarpon fishing most do get unbuttoned, extremely hard mouth, many jumps and they aren't small, landing rate is pretty low.
  22. Pflueger has an established track record, IMO for freshwater spinning they excel. I use 3 Supemes, fish year round and nearly every day I'm using one of them, those reels are 6+ years old. They are as good as they day I bought them, never a need for service of any kind. If one does need service, Pure Fishing is as good as it gets.
  23. ereplacementparts.com I do believe they get the parts from Shimano, they may have the same out of stock problem. Quick google check, Mikes reel repair, Daves Parts & Service, Southwetsern Parts & Service.
  24. I use braid (15#) with leader on both poppers and frogs on a medium rod, sometimes on light and ml but using 10# braid. I have poppers that come with a single hook, I can easily switch to one if I desire. I don't pause long enough for line to sink.
