Rough Water Fishing
Good advice. 15 mph and 3-5 wave is perfect for fishing for us, not that it's easy standing all day. My partner's boat is only 21' but built to handle those conditions. My boat club boats I use are a 28' Sailfish or a 27' Robolo, they both handle the waves pretty well, gas and go..........luv it.

Boca Raton Peacocks
My local peacock spot is in a canal off Lake Ida. Best places I have found are under bridges and canal intersections.

Iphone
Originally my phone's battery life was IMO excellent, used maybe 20-25% per day. A few months after I got my phone there was an automatic OS update and things were fine for awhile, all of a sudden my battery life was not near as good. I did a factory reset and it's better than ever now. I don't have Iphone but saying factory resets can sometimes do wonders, at least that's opinion of many other users I've seen on forums.

Is It Fall In Your Area Yet?
You wouldn't know it by waling outside, September can be the most humid and uncomfortable moth here. I haven't considered bass fishing in a few months except 30 minutes of casting in my community ponds.

Don't Believe The Hype
I've seen more this year than I can remember, fishermen using fly rods to fish the inlet. Most of the time the current is running 7-10 knots, that's pretty fast water with the primary species being snook, tarpon, barracuda and jack crevalles, these are not small fish. Back to bass, I don't over analyze and seldom read articles, I don't think anything has helped me more than time fishing and knowing my home waters. I keep things simple using only a few different types of lures. I didn't always fish ponds and canals in Florida I grew up fishing Lake St Clair and lake Erie (Rondeau Bay) in a rowboat with 6.5 hp Elgin with no electronics, in hindsight it wasn't a bad way to learn how to fish. That said being on the right water is a big equalizer.

Eva Or Cork?
Cork for any rod that I'm casting and retrieving with, offshore trolling and drift fishing it's EVA, hard to find a rod that isn't.
-
Red Hooks????????
I don't care what color the hooks are and I don't think the fish do either. I've used red worm hooks with no problems. I've been buying kroc spoons that come with red hooks, no better or worse than any other color, they don't stay red all that long. Hook replacement time for my trebles, 3x of any brand for my freshwater and 4x perma steel for my saltwater.

Line Setup Question
Didn't state whether it's a b/c or spinning. I fish only spinning, I prefer braid either 10 or 15# and both are thinner than 6# mono or copoly, stronger with less memory. I always use a leader regardless of technique or lure type, leaders can be change in a matter of seconds.

Suffix 832???
I haven't noticed much if any noise using an "outdated line" or problems with excessive abrasion. As long as the line holds a good knot and holds a good fish, that's all I need it to do.

Thoughts On Quantum Spinning Reels
I would agree. Not that I've needed to but Quantum's warranty is 48 hours for freshwater reels and 24 hours turnaround time, which is stated on their website. Not to knock Shimano reels, they do a very nice job for freshwater and light inshore fishing, but my stradic fi's have higher rate of needing service than any other reels I own, when they are working they do a good job. The stradics do a bang up job for smaller fish I like them, but you won't see many down here. If any thing in the Shimano line up a spheros is the more popular reel, durable, very good drag and they seldom seem to need repairs, I have 2. I personally pay little attention to user reviews, but I do read the reviews by Alan Hawk. His reviews are for saltwater spinning, the reels are broken down with step by step pictures, then used, the most comprehensive I have read. His latest reviews have dropped the stella out of the top 5, Daiwa tournament ss take his #1 spot in the budget reels, the under $250 the stradic fj is his pick (I don't own one yet), his ratings are on a point system and in fairness the spreads are not all that great. His opinions for me are guideline and only for saltwater fishing which is my major emphasis. I do not promote any product, some I would buy again and others I would not. I'm always willing to try something different, goes both ways as far as satisfaction goes. As this being a freshwater forum, I've yet to have a reel that has not performed well in freshwater, none of them have needed a repair.

Thoughts On Quantum Spinning Reels
Depends on which Quantum I guess. I own most major brands of spinning reels used in both fresh and saltwater, that said no experience with the freshwater Quantums. I have several Cabos in the 30 and 40 size, when it comes to drag performance I feel they are at the top of the list, my reels seem to be well built too. The one negative with my new Cabo 40 was being "sluggish" on retrieve, sampling 4 different ones at BPS they were all the same, but after 3 months it's really broken in now and it's one of my favorite reels. I checked out the smoke inshore as well, just felt the Cabo was a more substantial reel. I have yet to own a saltwater reel that hasn't needed repair or service, both the elements and the fish can play havoc on them, I've yet to own a freshwater reel that needed any service.

Another Drag Question
IMO the drag is meant to slow the fish down and tire it, not stop it dead in it's tracks and drag it in. My drags are always set by feel and in most cases no adjustment is needed, however it is not unusual to have a fish here pull out line on 20# max drag reel. The 15 or 20# braid I use isn't the problem, it's the knot and leader that can fail, I never lock down my drags. The key to landing powerful running fish is not line strength but line capacity, using the drag is essential for success.

Red Line
I seem to always go back to original PP in moss green. Have 2 reels spooled with slik and the jury is still out on it as my bass season really hasn't started yet. I don't care about being able to see the line, much of my fishing is in the dark, and in most cases the fish don't seem to care. I use 10-15# in fresh and 10-15-20# in salt, leaders about 2' are always used and swivels most of the time except for flats and mackerel fishing, but not a set up I use in freshwater. Has served me well over the years.
-
Snap Swivel Or Straight To Line?
I use swivels except when targeting mackerel. I always use leaders, lures get a loop knot and jigs get a clinch knot. I retie or replace a leader only when needed.

1 Fish..........but What A Fish.
Fishing the jettie at about 5:AM this morning on the incoming tide I get only 1 strike and it was fish on. Knew exactly what it was on the first of about 6 jumps, a tarpon. I handled the fish well on my 8' Okuma mh inshore rod and a Cabo 40 reel using 20# braid and 40# leader, 1/2 oz Storm wild eyed shad. I get the fish turned and making good headway to beach it, but then the tarpon made some other plans, by swimming in the inlet. Being near a full moon the inlet was close to top speed, current maybe about 10 knots, so I had to run it down to get to the seawall about 150 yds away. Drop my pier net only to discover the fish is too big for the net and I could not have lifted it anyway by myself, at that point I had no choice but to break it off. A photo op would have been nice, but after reviewing the new tarpon rules when I got home a 40"+ tarpon must by law remain in the water. Ya just never know when a game warden is going to show up, it isn't worth it. There were news crews, police and federal authorities all over the place this morning, illegals had beached a boat.

I've Lost All My Patience For Fishing Slow - Help
Fishing can be a matter of timing, being in the right location at the right time. There is no wrong or right, you may be in the right spot at the wrong time or move and discover the timing isn't any better...........or it could be.

Spinning Reel Or Baitcasting For Soft Plastics
Doesn't make a difference, there are b/c and spinning set ups to handle any scenario, it's ones own comfort level.

Line Capacity?
Required casting distance and species dictate how much line you need.
