This Little Fish Took Me 75 Yards Down The Beach
Awesome, well if having to run 30 pounders down with boat using conventional gear is awesome, I guess they are..... Hardest place I catch them is off the beach, once they hit the swash they are almost immovable, we walk backwards when landing them, legs are stronger than arms, my biggest off the beach is between 20 and 25lb. Change of pace caught a few these little terrors this afternoon, great color.

This Little Fish Took Me 75 Yards Down The Beach
When I say little I mean little, 4 lbs........maybe less, chased it down over a large rock pile about 75 yds down the beach, drag was tight too.

Favorite Non-Fluke Jerk Bait?
Mirrorlures are some of the most versatile lures I've ever used, my favorite is the catch 2000 and the catch jr. Not to split hairs but these are twicthbaits and not jerk baits. I can work these lures either subsurface or on top of the water, I especially like them for fishing the swash where the water is no higher than my knee. Plastic jerk baits are a different genre, I'm a big fan of DOA 5.5" jerk shads.

Powerpro Braid Issue
I haven't seen that happen. I don't use long leaders so the leader does not come in contact with the main line on the spool of the reel. I keep most of my leaders around 20", certain other fishing applications I may use a 4 or 5' leader.

Unwashed Hands
My wife is obsessed with hand sanitizer, I'm not. She is no healthier than I am, in fact she gets ill more often. Hand sanitizers and anti bacterial soap remove the good bacteria as well as the bad, good bacteria is healthy for us.

Ugly Stick And Shakespeare Synergy 10
Many of the combos come with 2 piece rods, I prefer 1 piece myself. Just about any of the mentioned rods and reels will make a very usable entry level outfit.

Am I The Only One?
That's absolutely true........... but there is a trend for spinning gear targeting larger fish. Shimano stella models can load up lots of line capacity with 50# of drag and Shimano also makes a terez rod, spinning as well as casting, made especially for those fish.

Look On The Bright Side
I'd like to take issue with the person that dubbed these years as the Golden ones, lol. One great thing about being old..................you made it, not all do.

Multi-Hook Dropshot
Yep, I use 12/0 Mustad limerick hooks. I buy flo red, flo green, yellow and black tubing. Quite few years ago these tubes were made by a fellow from Maryland for stripers and bluefish, he's out of business. We pretty much took his design and started using them for barracuda, there about 5 of us that make them this way in my area. Cuda tubes are available ( Sea Striker) but they do not spin because the limerick hook isn't used and with a lesser grade of tubing. The limerick hook is exactly why I get so much line twist, even using a ball chain swivel.

Loves And Pet Peeves Of Outdoor Television
I don't watch bass shows on tv, dragging a fish across the water is not my idea of fishing, I'm certainly not going to watch it. Not really a pet peeve just some additional viewing I'd like to see. I do watch some saltwater shows, most of them are in waters that are not like what I have in my area. They seem to always be fishing with bait all over the place and the fish are crashing them, believe me it doesn't always happen that way. I'd like to see more shows where they highlight surfcasting or fly fishing from the beach

Multi-Hook Dropshot
Down here they're called chicken or guppy rigs for fishing and for bait it's the same as sabiki rig, as common as can be for decades. I use surgical tubes nearly everyday, I've made up smaller versions for bass. I've never tried it but I bet my baracuda tubes would destroy muskie. This is how I make them.

Favorite Fishing Line And Knot?
The ordinary clinch knot has been the basic fishermen's for eons, I learned it over 60 years ago and it's way older than that, I still use it everyday for something. Without seeing your knot can't say if the knot is not correctly or it just isn't a good marriage with the line you are using. Is the knot pulling thru or comes unraveled? If the knot is pulling thru singe that tag line with a lighter and don't trim it super close. If the knot isn't holding for you it may be time to learn a new one, many knots to choose from that work well. For lure connection, it's a leader and double wrap loopknot for me.

One-Hand Versus Two-Hand Casting.
I do both, time and place for each.

Snakeheads Are Catfish With Attitude.
I wouldn't be eating a snakehead from these Florida canals either, but have heard they are tasty.

Am I The Only One?
I agree about being geographically, but my observations indicate to me is freshwater vs saltwater. I've been fishing saltwater for 30 years from New York to Florida. Whether it's casting and retrieving from shore or fishing the flats spinning gear seems to be the overwhelming choice, not that casting gear isn't used but it doesn't have near the popularity. Just for the sake of curiosity tune in a few saltwater fishing shows on tv, willing to bet more spinning gear will be seen by the viewer. Most of these shows are hosted by people that have their roots in saltwater, I have seen b/c used in the salt on tv, but the host has their roots in freshwater.

Shoes For Fishing?
When my shoes get a bit odorous from being wet, Fabreeze helps.

Your Opinion...when Are The Worst Times To Use Braid?
Most of the replies are focused around bass fishing, casting and retrieving in some fashion being the predominate technique. I use braid almost 100% of the time but in my experience 3 times comes to mind when it may not be my best option. 1.Trolling with lures that spin quite a bit, the line twist created is terrible, I've wasted entire spools in very short order, ball bearing swivels won't eliminate it. 2.Casting and retrieving lures than spin, certain spoons and inline spinners, not near as bad as trolling but in time the line will twist, I'm still a gluton for punishment, and at times I do use mono. 3.Drift fishing on a party boat, many species will encircle the boat and tangle up many lines, the mates just cut line, many captains do not allow braid on these boats. Also when drifting with bait the turns over in the water and again creating line twist. I do use braid on private boats for drift fishing, I have to change it more often. For my freshwater and inshore saltwater fishing I haven't used anything that beats braid.

Shoes For Fishing?
I have several types of shoes I fish in, depends what I'm doing. Crocs can get too hot and fill up with sand if on the beach, I wear sandals. I do like the crocs when it's raining. For boat use, our boats are not carpeted, a name brand boat shoe with good grip as the deck is always wet and we move around when fish on the line. Shore use I wear closed toe sandal with hiking type sole.

Am I The Only One?
I'm strictly spinning. There is a spinning rod and reel to catch just about kind of fish under any kind of circumstance. Many folks mention lure weight, the reason they may have problem is they haven't selected a rod to load up properly with the weight of the lure they care to use. Appears to me that rods marketed for the freshwater market have a lesser amount of sizes available. Saltwater rods are available from light action to as high as 80# rods. I see no difference in fresh and saltwater rods as far as sensitivity and backbone, what's different is more corrosion resistance. I use nothing but inshore rods, for freshwater too, tossing a 1/4- 3/4 oz lure on a med spinning is an everyday event. Matter of choice of what to use, both b/c and spinning can handle anything, it's just the right set up.

Your Opinion...when Are The Worst Times To Use Braid?
I've yet to have a problem with lure depth with braid, different lip angles produce different depths. I want a deeper dive I use kind of lure vs a shallow runner. How the rod is held also will produce different depths, hold lower for more depth. The worst time to use braid is trolling when using lures that have the propensity to spin a lot, like a drone spoon. if I do troll with braid I'm using lures that waver back and forth like a sling jig, freestyle jig, cedar plug.

Who's Fishing For Peacocks (Or Snakehead) Tomorrow?
Miramar is loaded with peacocks, most canals and ponds have them. They like hot weather and afternoon is best, I've caught them almost up to sunset. My last trip down that way a few months ago I saw tarpon rolling, got my juices flowing, not that I could have ever landed one on the gear I was using for peacocks. My car was reading 95 yesterday, and with this humidity there will be no freshwater fishing for me. My ticket is saltwater from about 4 am till 10:00. Except for the ICW corridor from Miami to Lake Worth the hot bite is sea trout, where I'm at it's snook.

Dude, Where's My Bass?!?
I have no snakeheads in my area and the bass fishing always slows down in the summer. Of course the fish are still there, especially in a landocked pond, but that doesn't mean you're going to nail a larger one on each outing. Catching a larger one now is a matter of good fortune, being as the bigger bass just beat the smaller one to the lure on that particular cast.

Apartment Shopping
Property tax is figured into the rent, except the tenant is not allowed a tax deduction. As with any non secured investment there is risk, risk promotes reward but it always doesn't work out that way. Whether 5% or 20% is put down if one can ride out the housing storm, in time the investment should work out fine. Sales in homes and values have been rising, there is a ways to go but it will be back. The question has always been, a box of rental receipts or home ownership. We get tax advantages and equity appreciation with ownership, but we also get incidental repairs, maintenance, new roofs, replacement windows, new furnaces and A/C, landscaping machines and tools or hiring a landscaper. I probably omitted 1000 other items plus having less disposable income because so much was spent on the home, less real cash can be saved. Not recommending one lifestyle over another, each has to seek their own path.
