  1. Not every newcomer knows exactly where to posy a topic, often times old timer may make a mistake or not be sure them self. It would seem to me for a moderator to relocate a post is a simple task, nothing worth nit picking over. Posting something in the wrong place has nothing to do with the actual catching of a fish, whether it be a bass, panfish or a marlin.
  2. Any HO policy I have owned covers personal property from where ever it's stolen, there is no need to mis lead an insurance co. There are 2 problems in filing a claim, in many cases the deductible is higher than the value of the actual loss, secondly HO insurers have been known to cancel after a claim or 2. Renters insurance is bit different, covers the contents of the unit and personal property, the apt complex or condo assoc has insurance to cover outside damage. Slightly off topic but good info to know, HO insurance may not cover damage due to floods, and damage from a named storm will result in a higher deductible.........read your policy.
  3. I made a mistake, I cleaned out my places on google map, didn't realize the bookmarks would disappear. Snook and tarpon are not at the park, they are in the canal off Old Everglades Pump road, there is a spillway there. Also there is an alcove off the hillsboro inlet @441 in an apartment complex. That alcove is known as "Tarpon Lake". A bank fisherman cannot cover water like someone in a boat, in order to catch some nice fish I have found it's the out of the way obscure spots that work best for me.
  4. Invite is open...............always enjoy the company of a fellow angler that appreciates this type of fishing.
  5. I pretty much stay with what has always worked for me, on a whim I may buy something that catches my eye. I've been wanting to try a waxwing, but my $3.00 jigs are really producing, can't seem to pull the trigger for $20 for a lure that may last me a cast or 2.
  6. Zero bass jigs, but keep on hand about 20 bucktails which I use for offshore fishing, inshore fishing and bass fishing. They are so readily available here I don't worry about running out.
  7. Agreed about LA., excellent fishing state.
  8. When there is water this place can hold both snook and tarpon, it's usually very low in the winter but should have water in there now, a fluke rigged weedless would be my bait of choice. I don't get to Markham park but I've read many reports about that area holding snook and tarpon.\ https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=205722576351840746262.0004c7326705de5628bd8&msa=0&ll=26.385161,-80.235236&spn=0.004979,0.010031
  9. @WW2farmer What I said was I can't see spending a lot of money on fish that don't average but 2# and there is moderate priced equipment that gets the job done, by your own admission you catch as many on your lighting rod. If some one cares to drop more money, that's their business, just something I wouldn't do. Being in Florida I fish for both saltwater species as well bass and peacocks, I'm serious about all fish I catch. Bass, snook, not much difference, we catch them the same way and in freshwater too. Many of the people I know on saltwater forums understand it's the fish that counts, not what you have in your hand.
  10. Even if you found it at a pawn shop, the pawn dealers aren't going to give it back. At best they may have some sympathy and accept what they paid for it.
  11. X2 That ain't fishing ! If you wouldn't fish for bass that way why would you do it for a catfish and don't tell me it's sport. Since you don't have a man card yet, I submit your boy card be revoked.
  12. I believe braid is the best way to go, at least it has been for me. Whether you are using a knot to join braid and leader or using a swivel the knot is not any weaker than the one you have used for your lure or hook. Not uncommon to hook a fish 30-40# or more here, I use 15 and 20# braid, knot or braided line failure is a rare occurrence, and once tied I already ever check it.
  13. With braid I don't have to watch my line, I feel what I need to. I use standard green, with 1 exception Hi viz yellow, because I like the way it looks on my reel, no other reason. I did just re spool my yellow with the identical line, I noticed very little color loss bewtween new and old.
  14. Bassn covered it perfectly. Your sol is S.O.L., that's sheet out of luck!.
  15. My experience with Daiwa is spinning and in saltwater. I do own a tierra 3000, it's ok but not my favorite reel in that size. Setting this reel aside and addressing some larger ones, I own a Penn conquer 7000, very good reel cost about $220., recently serviced and still a bit "geary", I may have a lemon as I have seen others that are very smooth. That said my fishing partner uses a $60 Daiwa BRI, fishes it hard and everyday, has about the same drag as my Penn, but the reel is way smoother, I like it better than my Penn, except for the weight. His reel has been going strong for about 6 months, I'd have no problem in buying one myself. IMO if a reel gives you good service in saltwater, it's going to be great in freshwater.
  16. Many of those private ponds hold some very nice fish and really do not get too much fishing pressure. As with most of them, even with shore access, parking is a problem. Much of the time when I'm venturing out of my own community I'm fishing canals, parking is not as much a problem, some of them hold freshies (tarpon and snook). I know dozens and dozens of places.
  17. One thing you always have with you is your rod, I have a 20" mark (a piece of masking tape works well). If you want to step it up a notch, put a piece every inch or 2 starting at about 18 up to like 24, it's basically free, takes minutes to do and the tape can always be removed.
  18. Yep ! I seldom use anything but a 4000 reel with 15# or 20# braid mounted on a mh 10/20 rod. A full spool is a must which is going to be over 200 yds., I don't use mono backing.
  19. I don't own a b/c, I use spinning for everything in fresh and saltwater. Use what you are comfortable with.
  20. I live in this area and I know many places you can fish with no trouble, personally I'd hold off and wait until the bite gets better. I've placemarked 2 places, you can easily park at each spot and walk the bank. The location off Yamato is loaded with lily pads and holds a lot of fish. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=205722576351840746262.0004c70afa99cc9ccca63&msa=0&ll=26.387026,-80.212297&spn=0.039828,0.080252
  21. The best stock hook I have found are the ones that come on Mirrorlures, IMO they are the strongest, and I do use some of them for bass fishing. When I do replace a treble it's a 3x or 4x even for my freshwater lures, as infrequently as I do it, seems to make more sense to me replace rather than sharpen.
  22. When you move to Florida you learn how to land a 50# fish on 10 lb line, not 10# fish on 50 lb line.
  23. Go where the money is.........you can catch fish anyplace.
  24. Amen to that ! I keep my formula pretty easy (use only braid and spinning for just about everything). I match my line to my rod ie: med 6/12= 10# braid, med 8/17= 15# braid, mh 10/20= 20# braid. This is consistent whether it's freshwater or saltwater, my 4000 reels get no more than 20# braid, I know people that use 30 or 40# on that size but I don't see the need. I mostly use PP, but I'm not married to any one brand.
