  1. So far I've enjoyed watching badminton, that game is incredibly fast. The court is 44' long and 20' wide, the contestants seem to be fairly close to the net. The analyst stated the bird travels at times over 200 mph and has been clocked at 260 mph, it's amazing to see the power and reflexes of both the men and women.
  2. Biting on a lead split shot is not the same as little children ingesting lead based paint off a pealing wall. Kids will put anything in their mouths and their systems are much more delicate.
  3. I'd love to see some of the areas down here as clean as that waterfall pic. I did some freshwater canal fishing today, this isn't the first time I've noticed all the crap both in and out of the water. On the drive home I was thinking to myself, I'm not going to freshwater fish anymore except in my neighborhood where it's clean. It's clean because responsible people live here that care what the area looks like, can't say the same for other places.
  4. China 32 gold, 65 overall USA 29 gold, 63 overall UK 19 gold, 43 overall, great to see the host doing so well. With all the effort, time and dedication it takes to be an Olympian, then medal on top of it, makes me happy for each and every one, regardless of country.
  5. Best thing about fall...............the mullet run.
  6. My wife is as liberal as they come, can make a sailor blush and outdrink him oh her worst day..........lol.
  7. Not a review or recommendation, just an experience. For continually cast and retrieve I use mono on only one set up, I do respool often. I use my same procedure most of the time, soaking my line in hot water before putting it on my spinning reel. I use 14# and have little or no problem with suffex elite and spider wire xxx, as I needed to respool I put some Stren original (same test and line diameter), I have never seen line coil and jump off the reel like that before. I then respool with my standby trilene xl, no coil at all, line supple, been on the reel for 5 or 6 days and haven't had the need to troll it out. As far as strength and knot holding, I catch barracuda on this outfit, enough said. Just can't justify using anything but trilene xl from now on, it's pretty cheap too.
  8. I mainly use PP, Fins if available, and have tried many others. I use 10-15-20# only, I'm fish pretty much moving baits only and I look for the one on sale. I haven't found enough difference to get that choosy.
  9. In Florida just about everyone I run into that inshore fishes totes but 1 rod and lure or 2, there is no garbage. However the bait fishermen are terrible, a group of lazy pigs. There is never a trash container to far away and there are special containers for just used lines, yet they are not used near as much as they should be. That isn't the worst of it, it's rotting live bait, boxes of squid, unwanted or cut up fish used for bait, just left on a pier or seawall. Not to say everyone is guilty, I personally know many responsible fishermen, that are bait only guys, but for the most part there is nothing in the world I despise more than bait fishermen. I see a cast net or sabiki and I'm looking for another place to fish. Bait is very popular here and catch and release in saltwater is a much rarer practice, even by expert anglers. Took me a little time to get my mindset accustomed to giving my fish way instead of releasing them, when I'm alone all fish get released.
  10. Really nice tarpon ! I've caught 4 this past week, I target juvies with bucktails on mh spin tackle so mine are smaller. Our offshore fishing has been terrible out of the Boynton inlet
  11. This is probably the main reason I prefer open water fishing, I will not use 50# braided line for fish that weigh less than 10 lbs., I don't care how thick the cover is. If I happen to lose a fish, so be it, I'm there to enjoy myself and that is not over powering a fish and dragging it in. My 15# or 20# braid seems to land the majority of them anyway on my spinning tackle.
  12. That was my first permit from shore, don't know exactly how big it was. Fight wise it ranks right up there with jack crevelles.
  13. I love the "knot wars" on BR, but always wonder why the need for such sophisticated knots when the the old standards are easy to tie and hold everything. I don't ever use anything heavier than 20# mono or 20# braid (I do use 40# leaders at times), whether I'm bass fishing in slop, inshore or offshore in the ocean it's only 4 knots for me. Clinch, improved clinch, loop and an alberto. Knot failure is such a rare occurrence, I don't ever give it a thought. The easiest but most important thing in fishing is a good knot.
  14. The only P line product I've used is floroclear, I've given up on it, back with trilene xl.
  15. There is no right or wrong. I'm a braid and leader man for just about everything in all water conditions. I use swivels and do not tie line to leader, my leaders are bout 20", about 30" for saltwater. I prefer a leader for 2 main reasons, in the event I tangle with the trebles a leader is much easier to unravel than braid. Secondly there is just a little bit of shock value with a leader, I like my hooksets that way.
  16. Budget outfits are not made to last, but some of the Pluegers seem to defy that notion. If one were to take a poll graphite reels would not fair well. Just to throw this out, one of the most workhorse reels made, that just seems to last forever is a Shimano tld, a budget graphite reel. True it's not the smoothest or the most refined, but that isn't the intention of it. In fairness it is not a cast and retrieve reel, but as far as strength and durability goes, it's a big winner. I'm not so sure I'd be afraid of a graphite reel.
  17. When it comes to fish busting on bait, bass are one of the easier species to catch. I would not over read the situation, if you aren't catching it's just the luck of the draw.........I'm licking my chops then and I don't bother to change lures.
  18. Handling sinkers or jig heads for a few moments at a time while rigging isn't the same as a baby ingesting lead based paint off a wall. Or a worker in a lead smelting plant where both physical handling and the constant fumes (not everything goes up the flu) 8 solid hours a day, is probably at risk. Not debating the lead ban issue in some states, I don't believe there is much risk for a fisherman.
  19. From an observation standpoint people using 50# braid are using b/c equipment, the heavier line does not "dig in to itself". IMO 10# braid is on the light side for for frogs even with spinning gear, I'd prefer 20#.
  20. Fat-G, thanks for the kind words..........I could have used you this morning. Long story short, tarpon was a too big for me to hold my rod and lower my pier net at the same time. Just as well, it's a release fish.
  21. Yes it does work, but so does hot water. Hot water is a bit more temporary, I'll soak my new mono spool for about 15 minutes then spool up my spinning reel, then completely troll my line out before fishing. That's it I'm done. Mono line is only used with certain lures that spin 360 degrees, I will troll my line out at the start of every other outing. I do nothing with braided lines.
  22. Not that I tie leader to line that often but the alberto is about as good as I've found. Never is an absolute word, so it isn't in my vocabulary, I'd say rarely do I ever get knot failure with any kind of knot I use. I'll add line to a spool for freshwater and inshore fishing, but not to an offshore reel. That said I needed about 100yds of line and I didn't purchase a new spool. I added 30# to the 30# mono on my reel with an alberto, could not have been stronger or more solid.
  23. It doesn't take a lot of experience to know where you want that drag set. I have never used a scale to set my drag, not once. For the majority of my fishing, both fresh and saltwater I don't feel the initial setting is that critical and my drag almost always is adjusted when I have a decent fish on, I do not recommend this for most people. I said adjusted, I didn't say tightened down all the way, I also palm my spool on my spinning reels to increase drag without having to make a manual adjustment, you can get cut with braided line doing this, I don't recommend it unless you know what you are doing. The most care I take in a drag setting is a reel with a lever drag, not that it's hard, just takes a little more time. Once I got used to a lever drag, I don't think I'd ever go back to a reel with a star drag.
  24. Not wanting to jinx myself for the future, I'll refrain from any comments pro or con about fishing. Don't know if I was born or programmed by my father, but I was always a gifted salesman. From the time I was very little I fished with my dad a couple of times week, the topic of discussion seldom was fishing. My dad taught me how to read people, both from what they said and their body language, take crap from no one, and be relentless, always go for the jugular vein, lol. That doesn't mean it always came easy, sometimes it was, but for the most time and energy were required. Being in business there were so many variables out of ones control, even the best will struggle at times, key advice I got, have holding power life is like a pendulum.
  25. Not being from the retail world I've wondered about the pricing of some items for sale on Ebay, not just fishing gear. I've yet to encounter a problem with a seller or the product not being as described, or the manufacturer not honoring the warranty. So far it's been win-win.
