How Did I Live Without This Thing?
Bit overwhelmed at the enthusiasm. I kinda thought it was the chuckle of the day, given the price tag. If it works for us go4it.

Veritas 2.0 Micro Guide. Broken Guides
Whether this was an anomaly or a common problem with this rod, I can't answer. In 60 years of freshwater fishing I've had 1 guide (a tip) that needed to be replaced and that was after years of use. In saltwater having a guide rust is something that doesn't raise an eyebrow, it happens. Abu generally has outstanding customer service, IMO this should be a warranty claim.

Rough Shimano Stradic 4000
In hindsight buying a used reel with a known problem is something that I always avoid. I'm from the school of buying used equipment may be buying some one else's problem, which appears to be the case. I would send the reel directly to Shimano, it's true parts are not always available for sales but the service department is a separate entity and should be able to make he reel right.

Redfish/seatrout/snook Thread
To my surprise snook have been reported as far north as New York http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/natsci/ichthyology/gallery/Descript/snook/snook.html, in reality they are a warm water fish. The magic number is 80 degree water for them to be on or near the beach. During the cooler months most snook are caught in the ICW, brackish and freshwater canals, they seek the warmest water they can find. Right now the water is about 73 degrees where I fish and snook are a very tough go, since the first of the year I've caught only about 10 on artificial. The best success fishing for snook is targeting them within inches of a sea wall, next to or underneath pier pylons, within a few feet of the beach shoreline.

Braid With Leader Vs Braid Without And Why
The dowel is good, some other options. When I'm land I'll hold my rod perfectly straight and walk backwards or may wrap the line around my shoulder then walk backwards, I make sure to open my bail to prevent breaking a tip. When I'm offshore hung up on a reef I'll wrap the line around the reel a few times and let the engine pull it, either breaks loose or the leader breaks.

How Often Have You...
Feel exactly the same way. Don't know what my PB is and really don't care, for me it's about enjoying fishing each time I go. I'd hate to focus on that PB and keep missing it or even keeping track of numbers to compare one year to another, sounds like it's a set up for disappointment and depression.

Spinning Gear
It depends on the intended use, lure weight parameters, whether a fore grip is desired, balance if important, xf or fast or mf tip. I could think of a few different rods, each a bit different, it's not 1 size fits all.

Best Looking Spinning Reel Ever !!!
That's true. It doesn't make any difference who or where a reel is made as long as it's made right. I have 4 Abu sorons all made in China, they perform as well as anything else I own. They're smooth on retrieve, never a problem with the drags, and have stood up to saltwater for years, I don't know what else I need a spinning reel to do.

$1.99
I have never seen the lack of competitive pricing as I see here I South Florida. In the last 10 years I've been here seeing one station 30 cents higher than 1 across the street isn't unusual. This past Saturday I pull into a station in Boca $2.99 a gallon, I left due to principal, filled up a mile away at $2.29.

Best Looking Spinning Reel Ever !!!
Not sure I understand this. Do not 99% of spinning reels have a single knob and larger fish are caught with them all the time. Not really remembering any time I've needed to have 2 hands on a rod to set a hook, but if I did I don't see any part of the reel being in my way. The reel in question, could not comment pro or con until I've used it.

Braid With Leader Vs Braid Without And Why
A very typical set up for me at the inlet is 20# braid with a 30 or 40# leader, breaking off is very difficult and it usually occurs at the knot to the lure. I can't imagine breaking off straight 50# braid.

Benefits Of More Expensive Lures?
How much can most lures really cost to manufacture with materials bought wholesale and in volume.

Good Deed While Fishing Or Any Good Deed
Good deeds are appreciated by the people you do them for. No need to list them unless the recognition is important. As it's written, "he who gives anonymously is greater than Moses".

Choosing Line For Backing
Even though you probably won't reach the backing I wouldn't go to thin. I would not want to match the diameter of 10 or 15# braid which is the heaviest I use. Not only would I need more 2 or 4# mono if I were matching my diameter but I wouldn't have the strength if needed. If I have a fish stripping enough line to get to the backing 4# mono ain't gonna work to well. I'd go 10#.

Best Looking Spinning Reel Ever !!!
I like the way it looks but performance is what counts. Not a light reel which is ok depending on the rod it's mounted on.

What Is Your Favorite Species Outside Of Bass And Why?
I have many species I love to catch but snook are my favorite. The average fish is just big enough to give a nice fight, but there is a pretty good upsize. Not one of the more difficult fish to catch, but some knowledge is required. Being a non aggressive fish enticing a strike isn't always easy, there is a degree of challenge involved. Physically they are pretty easy to handle, don't have sharp teeth to worry about, once you catch a few you are well aware of the sharp gill plates, doesn't pose a problem. Each one is different some go deep and others like to go airborn when hooked.

First Time Fishing Salt Water And Need Some Help
If you rinse your reel the wrong way you'll do more damage than if you didn't rinse at all, you don't want to force sand into the reel with too hard a spray. I do not rinse every time, not that it isn't a good idea just not necessary. The reason to rinse is to remove salt and sand, on a calm day with no wind sand or salt isn't blowing around, only the bail on my spinning reels get wet. If you rinse anything do it to the rods, I don't have reel problems but guides do rust out. What separates surf fishing from bass fishing is many of the species are not ambush hunters, they cruise looking for bait or follow bait schools. Either the fish are there or they aren't, when they are any lure works. The real key to fishing on the beach is being aware or your surroundings, always look around for bait, fins and birds. You can be in a dead spot and 100 yds away there is a lot of activity, pretty common scenario.

$1.99
We seem to be in a stable trading range, pump prices here in South Florida have been on the rise. For the time being the furor on Wall Street regarding energy has waned a bit and so has the volatility. The attention is more on Greece, the strong dollar and when the Fed raises rates. Both the Dow and S & P are in record territory and Nasdaq is tickling 5000.

South Florida Canal
As a "stranger" you can give up on most of the golf courses, either in private communities or private country clubs. There are some public courses but if there are golfers there the rangers won't let you fish, South Florida has become very restrictive. Being in Hollywood you can start at Old Griffin rd, the snook and jacks are getting a little active now (I'm back into saltwater mode) and there are places to park roadside. Going west on Griffin you get to the spillway at 441, salt one side and fresh on the other. Staying on Griffin alongside the canal there are plenty of places to park, not only can you fish the canal but you'll see some ponds you can fish too. From Hollywood along Griffin all the way to I-75 there is a lot of water that can be fished.

How Full Is Your Spool?
Can't say how many times on spinning gear filling to high I've dropped the lure behind me on the back cast, doesn't happen with less line. I'd guess I'm about 3/16", don't feel the need to add line if I happen to drop down to 1/4" or so. Line capacity is a bit over rated, you get a fish that strips you down pretty far, an extra 20 yards they'd probably take that too.
