  1. I agree with Muddy. It wasn't Jed's fish, Jed had an obsession, not possession.
  2. I was down at the El Rio the other morning and you could walk across it. I fish snook islands alot and do well there. Jacks, snook, tarpon, redfish once in awhile. I also hit the beach quite often too, I fish everyday. I don't protect my secret spots, someone fished them 30 years before I found them. I get as much joy watching someone else catch a nice fish so i don't mind other people around me. Gulfstream beach can get really hot sometimes, probably my favorite beach in the area.
  3. No snook or redfish in that part of Florida? not in order, Permit, Amazon peas, Roosterfish, Barramundi.
  4. After the trebles get mangled I replace them with saltwater hooks. Have bought other walmart cheapies and catch fish with them as well. I never had a fish ask me how much I spent on my tackle or gear., lol. BTW I read post spinning vs casting and totally agreed with you.
  5. Couple years back the ladyfish were running and when that happens you get hookup on nearly every cast. The ladyfish absolutely destroy lures and I was going thru many xraps a day. I went to walmart and bought a bass lure called a renegade for $1.50 and it just killed them, caught every other species as well on that lure. I've used it for largemouth and worked just fine, slightly larger than #10 xrap and great casting distance as well. I still use them, walmart bumped the price to $2,50.
  6. Time of year you plan on coming is an important factor. The water is bit cool for them now so the action hasn't heated up yet. I know for a fact they are catching them off bridges now in Stuart and further north. Bassn has given you a nice deal and I'm sure you will catch fish. I have personally fished with guides before, others have their favorite places mine is Islamorada in the backcountry in the keys. I have never caught redfish there, but have caught snook, tarpon, bonefish, trout, shark and permit if you get lucky. Guide will supply the rods and reels and tackle, around $350. Bud N Mary's is a good place to start looking for a guide.
  7. I use a clarus (6-12, 6'6 rod for pond fishing and it works well. I did take it out for snook and it handled 24-26" snook ( probably 5# range) quite handily. I would not recommend it for high banked canals or sea walls, get the next size up in 7', that will be fine.
  8. I see them used every day and used them myself scores of times, they are very effective. It's a chicken rig with 6 hooks. My suggestion if you have never used it before, put it on a dedicated bait rod and do it before you leave home out of the wind. It isn't very difficult but just takes a bit of practice to do it on a windy day. You can use it several times before you need to put a fresh one on. Most people use light or ultra reels 4# test and light rod, sinker weight depends on current 1/2 oz usually ok. I have a walmart combo for about 20 bucks that is perfect for sabikis. Just toss it out and jig it slow. If there is bait around, it's a can't miss.
  9. Unlike fourbizz's catch of 2 fish 1 rod, we had 1 fish on 2 rods. We were fishing for kings I got slammed by a bonita, within in seconds my buddy got slammed as well, nothing unusual as these are schooling fish. We thought we had a double header, to our amazement we both had the same fish on. Neither one of us had ever experienced that before.
  10. I had no idea of what dropshot was till I looked it up. As a kid my father used this set up with live minnows and called it a chicken rig or trolley rig(with a sliding swivel), with or without a leader. I think I'll try it.
  11. My spelling error mayan cichlid is correct
  12. From the beach this is a big boy, in the inlet where I caught it or the ICW it's average, paced it off at about 44 inches, we don't weigh them but guesstimate somewhere in the 25#-30# range.
  13. If I run into you I'll give ya a tube, I make them up. Bass Pro in Dania sells them as well as some of the small tackle shops, a good brand is Sea Striker. Word of caution....Handle these guys with care, they will go after you. Let them calm down for a few minutes and secure them. Last year one guy had his hand severly bitten. Pump up reel down
  14. Snook at the beach? Wow very early this year, water temp is cool 72 degrees. Very encouraging report.
  15. Your guess is good as mine on this one..... I hear people smoke them and they're good to eat.
  16. GMTA (great minds think alike) After each and every use a saltwater reel should be rinsed in a very light spray or dunk in a bucket, never a hard spray as that will push sand into the reel, sand is your worst enemy. After the rinse I spray with Salt X to remove any residual salt. Every now and then I strip the line off and put the used end on the spool, it's like spooling with new line. As far as mono, I soak in medium hot tap water before spooling, removes the coil and the line is very limp, may work with existing line, but I've never done it, I would just replace it.
  17. Nice catch..........what golf course in Delray? I live at Polo Trace.
  18. Happy Manuel with my catch, good dinner for him and his family Sidebar: Some snook are starting to roam in the inlet, I caught 2 shorties thursday morning about 22inches. Seasoner opener Feb 1., slot reminder 28-32, the FWC has a knack of showing up with tape in hand.
  19. Tape with painters tape, been doing it for a couple of years. Not only is it easier, but no backing is needed for braid. Also it's protection for reel, this happens alot and has happened to me. You get hit by a really big fish or a boat prop grabs your line, it won't bend up your reel frame, you just lose the line and lure, this has become popular in saltwater both spinning and convential. I tape in freshwater as a matter of convience, but reel protection is not is not a factor for me.
  20. Had a little action yesterday so I know where I'll be in acouple of hours. BTW hear about the guy picking up trash at Lake Osborne, was attacked by an alligator and dragged underwater.
  21. Safer in a boat than on shore.
  22. It's 64 degrees in Delray right now, checked the hour by hour forcast and not a bad day except for nw wind. Saturday will be a bit cooler.
  23. I did catch a shark on P-line 20# flurocoated, apx 6' 150# lemon on a king rig this past summer. I caught a second one on a spinner with 30# braid, the only advantage was line capacity.
  24. One of my sources has mentioned lots of jumping mullet in Broward. When you see singles just jumping they are "playing" and no game fish around, when entire pods "scatter", that's when there is a preditor there. Hillsboro canal produces decent snook, but I here not much is going on as the gates are close. Need rain for spillway snook.
