Sensitivity, what's more important the angler or the pole?
I think it depends on the style of fishing and what you are fishing for. Casting for bass I prefer a good quality sensitive rod, technolgy is getting better and better. The times that I'm drifting for larger fish with bait like kings the bite can be very subtle, I find braided line not the rod furnishes the sensitivty I'm looking for.

Rod Manufacturer Warranties
My expierence with Hurricane Redbone rods is nothing short of perfect. I have returned several rods for an immediate over the counter exchange at Sports Authority, no questions asked. In all fairness I told the manager that I stepped on my rod and bent the guide and it was my fault not a defect. All he said was, bring it in and don't worry about the receipt.

does braid chew up your eyes?
I use braid for snook and tarpon on a Hurricane Redone rods with Fuji Concept Guides..........never a problem. The only problem I ever had was a cracked ceramic tip on a Penn Pursuit rod that severed my braid. Once I put a quality tip on the problem never occured again. I use braid as well on my bass rods and the only problem was the quality of the line, didn't care for fireline.

Swimbait or Jerkbaits
Down in Florida D.O.A. jigs and jerkbaits are very popular. I use them in fresh, brackish and saltwater. Bass love them as much as other species. I mostly use pearl with a red tail. In weedy areas I rig them weedless and have very good success.

Presciption Polarized Fishing glasses?
I've been wearing glasses most of my life, I have been wearing progessive bifocals for about 15 years. I would never order online prescription, I don't feel the savings is worth giving up the personal service from a good optician. I only wear polorized for fishing, I'm using cocoons clip ons in both amber and grey and they are more than satisfactory. Amber for low light or inshore, grey for bright light and off shore. I don't care for polorized for other activties like driving a car or playing golf, the lcd displays on the dashborard can be difficult to see. I did have an optician tell tell me airline pilots don't like polorized because they have trouble seeing the instrument panel and I found that to be true. Polarizing is only a coating and I think most are about the same.

Saltwater board
I bet.........I've yet to catch a blackfin tuna, but I've caught many bonita and if the tuna fight anything like them, I'm in. I get offshore now and then as I have couple of friends that have boats. They mostly drift for kings. If the boat isn't crowded I won't drift, but I'll throw tubes and spoons for kings and feathers for dolphin.

Any snook & tarpon fisherman?
I keep putting off going up to Jupiter, it isn't that far. I watched Mark Sosin on TV yesterday and he seems to go to Jupiter inlet area often. This is the 3 rd or 4 th show I've seen where he is fishing there. It's nice to see because he is fishing in our backyard and in an area very accessable to us. He wasn't fishing more than 50 yards off the beach.

Florida fishermen I need some advice
Thanks Bassn, it's nice to have an ally. Warmer, I merely gave an opinion, in hindsight was a grave mistake. I have caught all kinds of fish big and small and some of my most memorable have been from small ones. I have made 4 trips to the Algoma region of Ontario in my younger days(had a friend that was guide there and drew me a map)1 backpacking and 3 using a canoe. Each trip was a week or so. Up there each body of water seemed to have it's own species of fish. Once we found the little speckled trout that never were more than 15-16" we had a ball and I enjoyed it as much as fishing for marlin in Cabo San Lucas. The point I tried to make was to say that when in a new area, trying something different may be more memorable.

Florida fishermen I need some advice
I am a midwest guy and I only gave an opinion on what I would do. This forum is an opinion board and most posts are just that. I in no way rendered any personal attacks against anyone, but it looks like I'm getting some. I apologize, not for what I said, but for being naive as not to realize that some may be insulted. I am fisherman, I fish nearly 365 days a year and I'm always eager to learn of a new technique or different fish to catch. In the future I will measure my words.

I have found interest in fishing for other species Jack Crevelles among them. I respectfully disagree with your appraisal of them being a trash fish. Many people down here eat them and say they are delicious, not to mention the tenacious battle they wage, many say pound for pound that they are "thee" fighting fish. I'm originally from Michigan and have been catching fish nearly 60 years. From the shores of Georgian bay in Canada, down to Baja California, other international trips as well and I would agree that the Jack Crevelle is a top notch fish to catch.

Florida fishermen I need some advice
I've never fished bait in Florida except on a drift boat. As far as trash jack are concerned I would guess you never caught one more than 2lbs, which still outfights a 5lb largemouth. Takes as much talent to catch bass as it does to tie my shoes and my sneakers are velcro. I catch bass at will any time I want. I love seeing 50-100-150 yards of line being spooled out by a tarpon, snook or bonefish. An expierence I have never gotten from any largemouth and I have caught my share of double didget fish. That is exactly why I gave up bassfishing, cept on the days that the ocean bite is off and I want get a few fish under my belt on my way home.

Any snook & tarpon fisherman?
As soon as the water warms up and the bait returns I'm gonna run up to Sebastian, never been and I hear it's just absolutley the best. I would probably pick casting from the beach as my favorite way of fishing, except going with a guide sight casting in the backwater in the keys, which I can't do on regular basis. I'm sure by now you have gathered I fish light tackle, artficals only. I don't do that much bass fishing except a little bit this time of year and in my area the bass bite stinks.

I've been in Florida for 4 years now and fish Boynton the majority of my time. Palm Beach county is a dead zone and the inlet area may be the worst of the bunch, but when they are on, they are really on. The Icw there is not good, way better up around Southern or Okochobee bridges, Lake Worth bridge can get very hot. My motis operundi is hitting the inlet about 4 am working the inlet and or the beaches. After sun up we cast for cuda using tubes(awesome), the bait boys are up at the top and the casters work the wash by the pump station. Everything is predicated on the tide.

Florida fishermen I need some advice
True off shore is a bit pricey, but with the slow economy and gas prices down these guys will negotiate now, especially guys with diesel, worse thing for diesels engines is not to run them. Freshwater and inshore guides are getting 300-350 now for half days, off shore isn't that much more, plus offshore guys are using goggleeyes at 10 bucks a piece

Leader or no Leader?
I fish the galdes and I use 10# braid, 20# leader.........no problems. For snook & tarpon I use 15# braid, 30# leader.........no problems. Gave up floro leaders, I get just as many strikes as I did before.
-
Norman Lures quick change release
I use duo locks only on lures I use for toothy fish. Lure, wire leader, duo lock.........then snap on to barrel swivel. Generally I tie and always use a leader.

Big bait, Big fish overkill
I bet it would. I might rig it with a king rig
-
Swimbait or Jerkbaits
Most guides I have met say dark lure dark water, light lure clear water, rest is overkill. I mostly use ghost day or night, works just fine.

Went out to dodge a few golf balls
I have played quite a few rounds in Boca and I am not familiar with Windermere, I do know of a Windermere in Orlando, never been there.

Fishing jerks
20 miles is cutting a bit close for me haha, j/k You don't know what close is until you have fished a pier. These guys down here not only fish 2' away from you but they throw cast nets for bait while you're pulling one in. This is not a daily occurance, but happens scores of times per day.

Any snook & tarpon fisherman?
Shoot me an email, I'm waiting for water to warm up a bit. You may want to try the El Rio canal in Boca on high tide. Snook should be hitting there soon. Decent access spot just south of Glades behind an apt complex(next to Boca Hospital), just drive in and park

LOL, Well just to name 1 real quick Boynton inlet, that spot alone I caught somewhere around 200 about 15 tarpon there too. I snook fish almost every day, leave the house about 3:am(after March, not now). Boynton is a safe place that time of night, places like Lake Worth are not.

Bluefish
I did go, but hit the icw first at about 6:00. I hooked 2 and landed 1 on an xrap. I got to the beach 6:45 and it was flat with lots of west wind and no fish. I hear the bite has been at night between 9-12. I was catching a lot of them November and December.
