  1. Bassn's answer is 10000% correct ! The homeowner may or may not own the property up to the shoreline, you have to check. In Florida it's quite common that property lines do not extend to the water, that is common property. A related tidbit : On almost any beach you can fish as long as there is public access to that beach. The beach is owned by the government and homeowners own up to the high water mark. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. I am unsure if this applies to freshwater beaches like lakes Michigan or Huron for example.
  2. Tennis elbow is inflamation of the tendons and only time will heal it. I've had it many times from golf and sometimes it take a year before it felt better, quicker if you lay off your activity. The over the counter braces and whatnot may allow you to participate in your activity with less discomfort depending on your pain threshold, but they do not heal, only time heals. Don't get confused with tennis elbow and a hyperextension of the elbow, different maladies and the hyperextension should heal much quicker. The best cure for either problem is refraining. I get hyperextension from throwing 3-4 oz lures into the surf. I opt not to put a foreign agent into my body like cortisone, I have a very high pain threshold.
  3. Duma, you're my new idol. I've been down that way a few times but never fishing, golf at Playa de Carmen, Coxumel, and Xcaret. It's only an hour or so drive. A good guide is a must down there. We get the occasional bonefish off the beach in Palm Beach County, but it's rare and it isn't the same. 10# bonefish realing off 100 yards of line, does it get better?
  4. Purchased 7 or 8 reels on ebay, all transactions went perfect. 1 shipper was slow to ship, but he mentioned that upfont in the ad so I had no reason to be mad. I would not buy a rod from ebay or any on line company. I want to put my reel on the exact rod that I want to buy and I also want an over the counter warranty. Not saying a rod transaction will go bad, but I prefer to make sure it doesn't happen.
  5. I've never been real comfortable having to sneak on and fish when I have so much public access. Under normal conditions my ponds are good and my canal behind my home holds really nice fish. Have pulled out quite few 5-8 pounders. This year has been a dissapointement, weed killer in the canals and some kind of excavation going on now. The canal looks like coffee with cream and no sugar, lol not to mention no fish. My attention is now focused eastward, as far as you can go, if you catch my drift.
  6. Shimano reels made for the Japanese markets are fantastic. I know the Biomaster is made in Japan not Malayasia and the quality is terrific.
  7. I loved the Tampa show, he was so impressed catching Jack Crevelles.
  8. That happens down here, not only runners but jacks as well. Any time you have schooling fish it can happen. I have had it happen with peacocks as well.
  9. I would not buy a rod on line unless I have seen it person first and put my reel on it, I have made that mistake. As far as best, that's subjective not objective, it all lies in your own opinion.
  10. At 3# it may be suitable for trolling for the next world record Blue Marlin,I guess it's true about California being the land of fruits and nuts. If I were living in 10,000 sq ft home on Malibu Beach I may frame those lures for display in my trophy room. Looking at there spoons, gold is an extremly soft metal and couple of hits especially from a toothy fish would mangle them up in a New York minute. Gold at apx$850 an oz and I will figure these are 1 oz lures as I did not notice a weight. 14k=58% gold content the Plain Jane spoon would have about $500 worth of gold in it. The other assembly parts have a nil value and the labor isn't much as all you need is a wax mold and centrifugal casting machine, hot torch and a buffing wheel. WHO WANTS TO GO INTO BUSINESS..........LOL Any dental tech or jewler could make them.
  11. The winds were from the west this morning but a nice swell coming from the NE. NO FISH>>>>>>LOL. Had 1 cuda swirl, but that was it, big one too. You could have rowed out of the inlet this morning, lees than normal current. Thanks for the Blue Heron tip, but I don't have a boat and my guy is out for awhile with a hip replacement, it ain't fun getting old, see what you have to look forward to. He likes offshore drifting for kings, I go just cause I like to get out on the ocean but I would prefer casting in the ICW or off the beach.
  12. I fished over there and there is a decent amount of shoreline. The canal just behind holds some nice fish but it isn't the easiest canal I have fished. I really haven't seen to many places to fish around there cept maybe some of the office building ponds on Congress closer to Yamato. Like to get into some of the Broken Sound ponds( Old Course)
  13. My last expierence with a Abu authorized warranty center was terrible but I just wanted to do something different. I had a bad bearing in my cardinal 802, drove 40 miles one way and upon my return to pick the reel the tech had told me the bearing in question was out of stock so he just switched the bearings around and said "yeah it's 90% better"...........in fact it was worse and it cost me 20-25 bucks. I'm sure Reel Mechanic would have handled it differently as he is an owner and not an employee and values repeat business. Sent it back to ABU in Spirit Lake Ia, 7 days later I'm fishing with a new reel. In no way is this a reflection any on other reel service center, just my expierence and this company is a very large operation that will never have my business again.
  14. There is a spillway at 441 and griffin, you can fish that canal as far as us 27 think, spillway gates won't be open for a long time.
  15. Winds from the North 6 mph, sea state vey calm, monday and tues the forcast calls for NE wind. I've been thru that inlet dozens of time and it can be real rough. Did you know it's not considered a navigable inlet because it's man made and most insurance companies will not cover you. Just thought I would throw that. That said there is a young man about 20 that goes out in 14'alum boat no electronics, catches more kings and wahoo than guys out there with $135,000 contenders. A bit comical, there is an old salt that I have seen going out the inlet, he uses a box from a pickup truck, made it water tight with about a 10 horse motor. and goes. If you have second thought about the inlet and I personally would't blame you, the tide may right to do casting around snook islands in the icw lake worth.....can be a killer spot, I cast it from shore quite often.
  16. I've heard that about soaking them in milk. Only time I ever caught bonita inshore was at the boynton inlet. They were cruising to the ocean from the icw. I don't keep the smokers anyway so I'd rather catch the bonita, they're a better battle. My guys sell these kings for 10-20 bucks a piece, more if they a large. I was at the inlet this morning, weather channel lied no NE wind so it was dead. A lot of snook starting to gather but won't hit artis yet. Cudas were abundunt before the tide change but not hitting, they can be more fussy than the snook. They will swim after a tube at 30mph, then turn on a dime with in inches of the lure. Cudas are really underrated, they don't bite, they slam, nearly pulling the rod out of your hands. I'm going out there tomorrow with a heavier outfit and my cuda tubes.
  17. I have sent back to Abu, (Pure Fishing, in Iowa). I put the reel back into it's original box and pack that box into a 6"box availble at any packing store or the post office, you may need to put some newspaper in the box to remoVe the"wiggle. Pure Fishing has a reel repair form avaible on line, fill it out and make sure to ask for your line back if you desire it. I send it thru the U.S. Post Office and I include a confirmation of delivery, extra 50 cents or so but you get a tracking number. I'm sure it will go smoothly for you.
  18. Florida bonita are seldom caught from shore and is strictly a fun fish to catch with no value except for bait. I'll call it a "trash fish". Pacific bonita are not the same fish, they are good to eat. FYI ... people line up down here for jacks and small cudas to eat, they are really good, the larger cudas over 36" or so develop a kind of toxin but some people know how to prepare them to avoid any harmful effects. I personal would pass on a large cuda to eat, but they are terrific to catch. If you're intrested I would be more than happy to tell you how we do it. We catch lots from shore, snook, tarpon, many varieties of snapper, bluefish, spanish mackeral just to name a few........everything is predicated on season and if the bait is schooling. Right now is the doldrums of winter and not a lot of action going on. The better action is in the ICW (intracoastal waterway) and brackish canals where the water is warmer. Down near Miami they are catching more fish now.
  19. I have sent my abu's back to Pure Fishing in Spirit Lake Ia, on a number of occasions, each and every time within 7-10 days I received a new reel back, even out of warranty, return postage paid by them. To me that's a big winner. Shimano on the other hand voided my warranty for using a lube that was not their product, turnaround time was about 4 weeks and charged me 10 return postage. The work they performed was stellar. Under the conditions of their warranty they performed. That being said Shimano, without any doubt from me, is a better quality reel.
  20. Performance...........Shimano made for japanese market. Customer service.....Abu Next purchase "Made in America" very strong consideration. I own an Avet and I'm pleased with it.
  21. I'm never upset catching a P. Kinda tough now with this colder weather, luckily I have not seen any floaters YET! Gotta find that warmer water, I hear a few snook have been caught. Ever fish the Griffin canal? There is largemouth, peacock, snook and tarpon in that freshwater.
  22. I was there maybe a month ago and at that time there was a slick of weed killer on the water and I got skunked. I would try it again for sure. Weed killer is everywhere in the Delray area now, lakes and canals and the bass fishing hasn't been up to its' norm.
  23. You're exactly right. Last year I went with some buddies just about once a week, they had me along because at 63 I was the youngest guy there, after 10 minutes of fight they handed me their rods to finish it up, lol. I loved it. In the warmer months lemon sharks will be swimming with them as well and they go 100-150#. NE wind 2-4 chop, doesn't get better. As far as I'm concerned the smokers are fun to catch, but they don't match the bonita. I caught a bonita last year at the Boynton pier on a spoon light tackle, took me up and down the pier for a good 20 minutes and it was a small one, only about 10#.
  24. Largemouth bass see well how far I don't know. Their eyes contains rod and cones much like humans. Since they don't have eyelids it is believed by some that eventually they get cataracts and go blind. I've been hearing for years "if you can see them, they can see you"
