  1. Addressing only the area of South Florida where I live, it isn't difficult to know if you are on public or private property, signs or no signs. There are private spots where you just know that isn't the place to be and other private spots that probably won't pose a problem. A little common sense goes a long way. As invader we think that we are causing no harm, why should people care. On the other side when people come into my community I always don't like it for a variety of reasons. Being human I flow with the opportunities that favor me, you bet I'm selfish and I'm not the only one. last week I wanted to fish a community that I know holds peacocks, I even have a friend living there but I didn't want to bother her. I drove up the gatehouse and asked the guard, he was nice but declined. I did have to respect the fact that it's his job not to let anyone in that doesn't belong there.
  2. Thinking further south.
  3. Paying estimates most of my working life I over paid a time or 2 before the estimates were adjusted, I may have gotten a refund. Never took the money, just applied it towards the following year's taxes. Don't think I'm different than anyone else, I'd like to pay as little as possible. I do know to keep many of the services I take for granted the funding has to come from someplace. I'd like to get on airplane and know it's safe, both on a mechanical level and threats from domestic and international. I want my medications to be approved and monitored. I want my parks kept open. I want my military to be strong, local police and fire too. I want my veterans to be well cared for after they have put their lives on the line to protect us. I'll forgo listing 100 other services that I appreciate having and willing to pay for. Most people want some program to be cut, except the ones that affect their own personal lives. Back when I was working the tax rate was higher, my income higher as well, paid state income tax both personal and business. IMO big business does not like a flat tax, it's unlikely congress will ever approve one as funding for elections come from those that don't favor a flat tax.
  4. When it comes to bass fishing I personally don't care to use a rod over 7' for any technique.
  5. Been catching about 80% of my freshwater fish on a Storm chug a bug and 1/4 oz roostertail, just replace when needed, getting a little low on 4x #4 trebles. Stocked up pretty good on other items.
  6. It's going to be 50 this morning in South Florida with a strong west wind, I may skip fishing today. I never did like the winter here in Florida ( love the summer), my wife and I have been talking about moving south.
  7. I haven't got anything in the mail yet to start doing them. Not sure when but the brokerage firms don't mail out until sometime in March I think.
  8. Good thing you called the police instead of confronting him yourself.
  9. My demon was gambling, bowling, pool, snooker, billards, ponies, cards and a dozen other ways to lose money. Halloween night 1970 while in Vegas stiing at a blackjack table, got up went to the airport and hopped on a plane to L.A., went fishing in the ocean. I never gambled again to that extent. I can walk into a casino now, play for a few minutes or not play at all, see a show or just have dinner.
  10. Interesting and not unreasonable. I did see a report on CNBC that OPEC nations other than Saudi Arabia plan on raising the price, they need the money.
  11. I''ll probably fall asleep by halftime.
  12. Some of my best buddys down here are hard core saltwater fishermen with decades of experience, you name it they owned it. At one time they spent nothing less than 900-1000 on a rod (same for a reel), not any more. So many of them are using TFO now.
  13. In my part of Florida communities gated or otherwise are private property. A pond less than 20 acres entirely on private property does not require a license to fish any where in Florida. Property lines differ in various communities, some go right to the waters edge and some don't go that far. In the case that the property line does not go to the waters edge that area is open to anyone living in that community, that's how mine is. I'm free to fish behind any ones house where I live, not that I would do it at 6 am for fear of waking some one up.
  14. I can understand an enthusiast wanting the latest gear, I more enthused about catching fish. I may buy something on a whim but for the most part I'm pretty content with what I have.
  15. The only Mustad hook I use with regularity is a limerick hook. Mustad seems to be the only company I know of that makes them.
  16. The average angler will never be priced out, there will always be something affordable for every budget. I would venture a guess the majority of manufactures stay in business by selling mid range equipment over high end. When it comes to boats where I'm at fishing boats come in all sizes and price ranges, from kayaks and jon boats on up to some pretty lofty numbers. The kayakers go offshore ocean a few miles, fish ICW and freshwater, so getting on the water is affordable where ever you are at. Don't think the average fisherman is priced out.
  17. Does kind of sum it up. At least in the winter we can catch plenty of bass, best time for it, another month or so I be back inshore fishing.
  18. I'm in total agreement, I don't use anything but braid 10 and 15# for bass fishing, I always use a mono leader. I don't even use 30# braid when I'm tarpon fishing.
  19. I haven't seen any beds yet. Pond fishing has been quite good at sunrise and sunset but the canal fishing has been way off, smaller fish too. Reduce the size of the photo to attach the file or upload the pic to a site like photobucket, then put the link in the body of your post.
  20. In my area of Florida inshore species are not being caught too readily, some are catching a few on live bait. Down here we call it the winter doldrums. Every now and then fish will show up, you can't plan it you just have to be there. This is the first year since I've been in Florida that I'm devoting more time to early morning bass fishing, it's been fun but I'm getting antsy for those inshore fish.
  21. Sure it's happened. Most of the time for me it would be getting unsnagged and having the lure shoot right back at me.
  22. The major difference I see between Facebook and more specialized forums is wider range of options available on F/B. Not only does F/B cover the entire world with an almost uncountable number of topics, groups, etc but it can be quite localized as well. One case in point may be the Flea market here on BR, we see them on other fishing forums too, on F/B there is a group selling used gear right here in Palm Beach county. Another group I'm a member of are people from 1 small area of Detroit that live here in Florida, many of us are close in age, we have get togethers, F/B makes this possible. F/B can be as big or small as you want it to be.
  23. The ranger waved to me this morning, if anyone would be asking me to leave it would have been him.
  24. Triple A reports national average at @2.05.
  25. In South Florida where I live many places are gated you can't get in, even some of the canals that are public are being fenced. Addressing ponds I go by my gut feeling even if they are no fishing or trespassing signs, you can usually tell if a problem will arise. Communities with single homes or condos may not work so well but apartment complexes seem to pose little problems. I have been fishing a couple of golf courses early in the morning, been working out pretty good. I can leave my car on the road and walk right in, I try to fish as far from the houses as I can. I know the golf course so I fish the holes that are later in the round, so no golfers. I'm neat and well dressed and don't do any bucket fishing. I don't spend more than about 15-20 minutes at each pond, I've got my rotation planned out pretty good. So far the early morning crew cutting grass just drive by and say nothing or give me the high sign if I have nice fish on the line.
