How Much Does This Weigh?
I have marks on my rods at 20 & 25", gives me a good idea of the length, I don't carry a scale.

What Is Your Average Sized Fish?
I'm in Florida and fish for bass year round, sure I've caught some big ones but caught 100 times more small ones. No way I average 3-4# a bass, more like 10-12" on average. Since I don't carry a scale maybe my 12 inch ones do weigh 3lbs......lol.

Too Much Tackle?
As long as my wife is happy she can have all the shoes and purses she wants, she won't ever tell me I have too much stuff. I buy want I need to catch fish, in saltwater it's a spoon, bucktail, fluke on jig head and a top water lure make my own cuda tubes, not much else is needed. In freshwater I tie my own jigs, primarily use topwater, jerkbaits and flukes, my arsenal is kept to a minimum. I lose a lure I just replace the one I lost.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Got cut off twice this week using my favorite spoon, Luhr Jenson cast champ 37 grams, ordered 4 of them a couple of days ago for $2.99. My freshwater fishing has consisted of using only top water and jerkbaits, bought a few.

Medium Or Medium Heavy For Topwater?
The size of the lure does play a part in rod my rod selection, 3/4 and 1 oz lures I'm using a 7' 8/17 med spinning, lighter lures it's a light or ml, I've been digging 1/4 oz on a ul, but that's open water fishing. It isn't the size of the fish it's the water I have to pull them out of, the bigger on the lighter the better I like it.

Big Fish Feed Midday?
The season has a lot to do with it. I can catch peacocks at first light in the warmer months, now I do much better catching them mid day. As far as bass goes my biggest are usually from 12-2 pm because that's when I fish for them. I don't do near as much bass fishing dawn or sunset. In saltwater peak times can be all over the map. Target species, incoming or outgoing tide, tide change relative to sunrise and sunset, baitfish, inshore or offshore fishing, wind direction, flat or heavier seas, ground swells or waves (there is a difference), can't just pick a time. Pre dawn is a great time for snook, but jacks generally don't appear until the sun comes up. Many fish school according to size, 1 day the jacks can be 1# a piece, the next day they can be 30# each, day after no fish at all. There is very little control as to the size of the fish in the area you are fishing.

Weld's Winter So. Florida Fishing Trip
It isn't worth the trouble. I try not to go where I'm not wanted, residential single home and condo communities are places where the residents complain, rental apartments seem to be much less of a problem. I found a nice apartment pond yesterday, actually a friend told me about it.

The Road To The Super Bowl
I don't care how numb your feet are you can tell the difference between flat ground and some ones leg. I thought suspension was too severe a penalty in the first place, not like he punched him or body slammed him to the ground. $70,000. is ample punishment...........last 5 seconds, Stafford to Megatron, lions win by a point.

Ultralight Basser
I do a lot of ul fishing in my community ponds. I use a 5' limp as an over boiled noodle rod with hardly any backbone (which is what makes it more fun for me), trion reel and light braid. I've had the same Storm top water lure on for a couple of months, I just love fishing for them this way. Caught many like this one on that set up.

Weld's Winter So. Florida Fishing Trip
All ponds may be created equal down here but they may not stay that way. I have 6 ponds in my community, 5 of them used to be excellent when I first moved in. Several years ago the county of Palm Beach forced my community to purchase reclaimed water instead of relying on rainwater. That was the begining of the end, the fishing has ever been the same since this program was started, additionally the HOA is weed spray crazy. The times I venture to other communities as I did this week I can really see the difference, caught quite a few quality bass as of late. I have a golf course that I can walk to, fished it several times and have never had a strike over the years. This past week I fished a couple of golf courses in Boca, WOW is all I can say. I've met a few people that live in a community not to far from where Weld fishes, they have a fishing platform and stock the pond with bait fish. I have heard some incredible fish being caught there. Last week while I was fishing I met fellow that lives in my area, his lake can't be fished from shore so he says, too much shoreline vegetation, he does have a jon boat and invited me, this could be some major fun.

Camera Trick? Or...
50 yards is long way. Under certain conditions I cast further than that, tail wind with a 7'6 or 8' rod using a thin heavy profile lure like a metal jig fish or a kastmaster from an elevated position like a pier or jettie. Normal bass fishing from boat or waters edge 30 yards is probably longer than I cast.

Shimano Stratic C14+ 4000Fa Reel
Agree with this. I use an 8.8 oz reel (15#braid) on a 7' med rod that balances beautifully, it's mainly a bass combo now but I have used it many times inshore fishing.

Messing With Telemarketers
This is the attitude I try to maintain, but don't really get those types of calls anymore due mainly because of the fines. We do get calls that are legal like charitable contributions. It's widely known that many (not all) of these calls are initiated not by the charity but a fund raising company, a portion of the donation goes towards "administration costs". Not being rude to the caller I simply say I make my donations direct. Back in the day cold calling was an accepted method to create a client base. I spent several years in the real estate business cold canvassing using Bressers or Polk directory. People that weren't interested politely said no while there always people that did want to discuss their property. That can't be done anymore. Even though we have no solicitation signs posted in the community, on occasion neatly dressed people will knock at the door trying to promote their faith by handing out pamphlets. Not being interested in proselytization in any form, but still see no reason to be discourteous, a simply "no thank you" works fine.

Looking To Replace My Clarus
What I do like about my Clarus is the way my hand fits on it, very comfortable. I looked again yesterday and those rods without a fore grip are just not to my liking. DSG had a clearance on redbones, not a one in the store, Bones are real popular down here.

Pretty Good Week
Took some time away from the ocean this week, I did go 2 times and caught some snook and mackerel. Fished ponds at first light using only a topwater lure, caught good fish everyday. Yesterday (Sunday) may have been the best, fished 3 ponds each about 10 minutes and caught 3 nice bass in each, not my resident ponds so I didn't want to wake any body up. Later in the day fished my own pond, got some nice ones top water and ul. Quite a few peacocks but nothing of any notable size yet.

Most Durable Spinning Reel And Baitcaster, Cost Not A Concern
Impossible question to answer. I only do spinning reels, fish them 7 days a week and 12 months of the year both in freshwater and saltwater, my stuff gets fished hard. Replaced my Supreme 30 with the same reel after about 6 years of a lot of use, pretty good durability in my book. My other Pfluegers used in freshwater are close to the same age and are like new, they get used a lot too. Saltwater is different, the environment is much harsher on gear, the fish are bigger, faster and stronger with longer runs, don't care what you buy in time it will need service. High end I'd be looking at a Penn Torque or Daiwa Saltiga, Van Staal is out as the reel isn't that smooth, very over rated IMO. I'd buy no less than a Shimano Stradic fj, any more is reaching into the diminishing return area. It's a good reel but not the most durable, I'd buy another for $125-$150, but wouldn't spend more on it. Smoothest saltwater reels I own are Abu Sorons, being quite a few years old they are getting a little geary. Can't answer the long term durability as the reel isn't that old, Quantum Cabo in the $200 market is my favorite reel. Next light weight SW reel will be a smoke, see how that works out.

- Looking To Replace My Clarus
@tstone, I agree with your opinion. I have a med Calico Jack that I use for bass in canals, been very pleased with it. I did see the ml, I didn't buy because of the lure weight, glad to hear you throw 1/8 oz on yours. No rush, going to look around a bit more.- The Road To The Super Bowl
Anyone remember Conrad Nobler, Suh is tame compared to him. I do think it was intentional and I'm a Detroit fan. No excuses for the Lions, they just didn't play well, Stafford was way off. Dallas is playing well too, Lions don't have much hope against them IMO.- Messing With Telemarketers
Can't remember the last time a sales telemarketer called. In Florida the fine can be up to $11000, very few companies are going to risk that. There are legal exemptions to the Do not call registry. https://www.fldnc.com/About.aspx,- Looking To Replace My Clarus
I actually ordered a ml Redbone last week but canceled the order when I realized it was a 2 piece. Think I will hunt down a 1 piece, own 7 Redbones already.- New Bps Catalog
I keep one alongside the Sears catalog in the "Johnny on the Spot" in the back 40. - Looking To Replace My Clarus
