  1. My buddy and I can do over 20 fish a day on a random lake in Michigan so I am guessing that on a hot lake and if you are really good it would not be impossible. Especially if size is not a factor.
  2. I caught three nice ones the other day on a Yum Zellamander 4" Lizard. I always feel like I have to fish slow in this cold stuff. You guys are talking about burning cranks.
  3. Thanks! That is kind off what I was thinking but I wanted to see what you guy thought.
  4. How much do you think this fish weighs? http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s134/limpinglogan/1-1.jpg This was my first fish of the season and being a northern fish this is a pretty decent size fish. It measured out a little over 21" but I didn't have a scale with me. I caught it on a watermelon 4" Yum Zellamander
  5. my gravel pits till have some shallow areas for good spawing...so I can not really help.
  6. I have learned a lot from snorkling...I have found a few great fishing spots that I otherwise wouldn't have known about because I found them snorkling.
  7. I caught two hogs on a hula ppper last season...one was at 7am in lilly pads and another was at 11:00pm while standing on our dock. When fishing at night I just pop it and wait. I also get short strikes which is annoying but hearing and seeing a big bass hit these is a blast. I have found that you should wait 30-90 sec between pops...pop it loud and let it sit.
  8. I am a swim bait newbie...should I buy the floater or the sinker?
  9. Thanks again for the great info and discussion!
  10. good stuff I didn't know they grew to 18 years old...thats a pretty old fish.
  11. How old do bass live?
  12. Last oct I caught a 20'' 4lb'er on a jig on the bottom in 15' of water...it had very distinctive marks and a scar on its lip. An hour later I caught the same fish on a swim bait on the surface 300 yards away.
  13. I know there are many variables but generally speaking what are some ball park ages for these size fish. I fish in Michigan so I know that will be different then in Flordia or Mexico. 3lb age? 5lb age? 8lb age? 10lbs age? again I know there are no clear cut answers but I have no clue about bass ages so I am just wondering.
  14. Until now I have never owned a scale but my two biggest where about 5lber's. I fish Central and Northern Michigan so they are pretty big for up here. #1. Middle of the day in the center of a small gravel pit by my house on a Berkly crank bait I don't think they even make them any more...I can't find them any where. #2 1am in the morning in 8ft of water on a Booya pond magic spinner bait with a Gary Yamamoto TTHG as a trailer.
  15. I need a few suggestions for fishing line. I was fishing some sort of berkly braid or fusion this past season and I liked it but I would like to see what you guys think is the best. Here are my specs...I fish light - medium spinning tackle. My go-to bait is soft plastics and/or shaky head technique. I also fish cranks and spinnerbaits if the mood strikes me. I think I need a new age braid or fusion becuase where I fish I catch a lot of pike almost 1 out of every 5 fish is a big pike and they will bite my line off and I lose the lure if I don't have a strong braid or fusion on...I am fishing for bass so I clearly do not want a steal leader on there. I am looking for sensitivity, low visibility to the fish, good knot strength, low diameter...and hard for pike to bite through...cost is not an option and ideas? -Logan
  16. I am startng a thread for people to specifically talk about thier #1 technique so others can learn and pick up some new ideas for 2009. I will start...mines pretty simple but it works well for me. I have several variations based on how the fish are reacting. 5" GYCB Hula Grub in either Black, Green, or smoke rigged to a plain 'bite me' 1/4 jig head... fishing on spinning tackle. 1. Long Cast Medium Retrieve This was one of my productive techniques this past summer it was really good for big numbers. I do this technique in 6-8 ft deep weed flats. Cast your Hula Grub as far as you can in a way to ensure the biggest splash...be prepared for an immediate strike. Let it sit a sec and bump it several times...if no fish hits It I start a stready retreive nursing it through the weeds. The bass seemed to nail it as it nudged its way through the weeds. If you feel like you get hung up just buzz it in quick clean it up and repeat. 2. Deep Water Bump & Wait Slow Retireve Using this technique I caught less fish but they where usaully much bigger. Same rig as before but I move deeper to 12-18 feet while looking for structure, drop off etc... Simply cast out and bump off of the bottom...I think what I do a little different is let the Hula Grub sit for a 5-10 count while giving it very small twitches and then bump it again and repeat. This techique is a little slow so make sure to be casting into productive water right from the get go. Added bonus tip...my PB this past summer was on a Green Booya Pond Magic Spinner Bait with Green GYCB Hula Grub Trailer at 1am in 10 ft of water. Thats its...who is next?
  17. I tried the leeches this last summer. Here are my thoughts. 1. Container leaks smelly nasty brine on hands and tackle bag...unless you crank down the top SUPER tight. 2. There expensive. 3. They caught me a lot of bass but nothing over 12-13" The They just seemed to be a magnet for the smaller fish. I was actually catching a fish on almost every cast but I just couldn't get any thing with good size.
  18. Mattlures bluegill looks awsome but 1.9oz? I don't think I have ever fished with a lure over an 1oz. Might as well tie a brick on there. I would have to buy a new pole to fish with that thing.
  19. I cought my biggest of 08 on one...the fish seemed to like'em. I do not fish spinner baits much but they the booyah pond magic seemed to work pretty well...
  20. What do you guys use as a trailer on your spinnerbaits? Last season a used a twin tail grub...but I just randomly put it on there and was wondering what the right trailer is...or atleast what others use. -Logan
