  1. I would use something like naphta, lacquer thinner or alcohol. They clean fast and they flash off fast as well.
  2. Looks really nice and clean.
  3. I mainly fish painted jigs. Usually black and blue, green pumpkin and brown and orange. I don't fish un-painted jig. However, many guys catch fish on raw jigs. I think this is a personal choice and a confidence thing.

Nice paint job and definitely something different. Job well done.
  5. Hands down powder paint. For several reasons its harder than any spray on paint, you can do multi-color once you practice enough and it's just fast and easy. No muss no fuss. I f you are looking for a powder paint tutorial PM me and I'll send you instructions on how to.
  6. For the Spoon, the stainless steel wire is probably somewhere around .020 diameter. For the weedguard on the hook that is about .012 diameter, which compresses more.
  7. Very Nice. Good colors
  8. You can make them out of lead, paint them and tie your own skirt on them. Lead is soft and won't abraid line like tungsten does or plastic. PM me your e-mail and I will send you a pic to see if that is what you are looking for.
  9. I have the oppurtunity to buy (2) of the above rods for $200 shipped. Naturally they are used but in very good condition. Except one rod does have some marks by the hook keeper looks like clear coat has come off a little. Would this be an issue with the blank? Also Is that a fair price for this rod?
  10. If you buy a generic lead jig you can paint it any color you want and sell it with any skirt you want. If you buy a Trademarked name like let's say for example "Strike King Whopper Stopper" and sell it as that you will run into legal issues. Also unique jig designs from major companies usually are proprietary and you cannot copy and sell them. The other thing with jigs is you aren't going to buy jigs from Strike King, take them apart and repaint them. It's not cost effective. There are many places where you can purchase raw jigs paint and skirt them yourself and then sell them.
  11. All I can say is get MSDS sheets from the manufacturer. I went and opened up the Spike-It it actually does have a scent to it. Naturally I wouldn't stick my nose in there and keep inhaling it. You have to do what is best for you.
  12. Is there something you are alergic to. The reason I ask is that all the blade dips have no smell, so you can use these in your house with no problem. What are you trying to accomplish?
  13. Well, I accidentally put it on my fingernail and it started to disintegrate. No not really. If it's anything like Spike-It blade dip, I use it for blades and stuff and other than the fact that it stains badly if spilled, there is no harm using it. Have at it and just make sure to keep it covered. If you need to clean it off your hands, acetone will work.
  14. Definitely some nice looking jigs. Keep it up
  15. No need to modify, they will work fine. The 38109 hooks have spring in them and they will fit fine unless you go too big. Let me know what size hook you want to put in what cavity and I will check fit for you.
  16. For me any lightweight jig and a Paca Chunk. Jig color blk/blu, desert sand, brown/crayfish, and grn pumpkin. Chunk color all of them except, pink and white.
  17. I will tell you from my personal experience, that I have had better luck with slower fall jigs than throwing a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig. My personal preferance is a Snootie and a Poison Tail jig. I rarely throw any jig over 3/8 oz. All my jigs are 1/8 oz up to 5/16 oz and this covers water up to 10 feet for me. I strongly believe that these jigs get bit more than others. This is just my personal opinion. I have been making jigs for 8 years, and I can throw any one of them but I don't becuase I catch more fish with the small profile jigs mentioned. With that said, the Snootie jig I throw was crafted after the Strike King bitsy bug. I used to throw the bitsy bug, but the quality was poor. So I modified the Snootie to take it's place. Now from my scenario, up until 3 years ago, I never threw a jig of any kind I was a crankbait guy, all day long rain or shine. Then one day a guide I new told me that I was missing the bite. He and I fished side by side with my cranks and his jigs and he just kicked my a$$. He taught me jig fishing with lightweight jigs and I never looked back. I literally catch more bass not necessarily bigger fish than I have in the past. I can honestly say that I've doubled my bass catching going to a lightweight jig. So yes going lighter makes a difference in my opinion. Nothing like a jig and a trailer.
  18. I only know of two hooks. The Mustad 38109 a 45 degree flat eye hook and it will fit in every Do-It mold that accepts a flat eye hook. The other hook is a Trokar TK815. This hook is thicker than most and may not fit in the Do-It molds unless you modify the molds. Now the Trokar was designed this year to fit a special mold that Do-It made for this purpose. This special mold is a Do-It Football model #FBS-5-ATK. What mold do you have?
  19. Keith, Nice paint job on those jigs. I especially like the orange on the belly of the first one.
  20. Tbone, Just out of curiosity where is your first tourney. I notice you are in the Chicagoland area. PM me as I don't want to hijack this thread.
  21. Quillback, I agree with you 100%. I throw a jig 90% of the time and I have had many 20-30 fish days in the Chicagoland area. I mainly fish weed edges and docks and when that bite is on which is most of the time in summer, double digit days are very often. As far as Rage Chunks and Paca Chunks, my first choice Paca Chunks for the cost savings, however they both work phenominally. There is not a better jig and plastic combination in my eyes.
  22. I would like to know the process as I have a lot of plastics like craws to melt. If you are willing to share the process please PM me.
  23. I do something similar to what Jig Man does. I take regular long nose pliers. Grab the tag end and bend it over into a loop. Now I take the tag end and make sure I overbend it so it sticks past the existing wire by an 1/8". At this point I take that overbent tag end and bend it back into the wire so the tension is held up against the original wire. This will avoid any gaps in the two wires touching, thus keeping the ball bearing swivel from ever falling out.
  24. tbone, You can get your copper wire at Hobby Lobby, Jo Anne's or Michaels. It's in the craft section by the beading material. It comes in smaller spools and its around $2-$3 per roll. You can buy many colors, from red, green to copper. I use 22 Ga (.024) diameter thickness and use 2 or 3 wraps. You could go a little heavier however the heavier you go the harder it will be to twist and conceal.
  25. Tyler, What this means is this. You can not buy any leass than 10 tabs per pack. One jig uses roughly two tabs. One tab has 22 strands, so if you put on two tabs ( which is pretty common), you will have a jig with 44 strands of skirting material. So one package of 10 tabs is enough for 5 jigs and this will cost you $2.50 for a pack of 10 tabs. That is 25 cents for each tab.
