Drop shot rod???
I haven't tried it yet, but I can't wait to pick up the 7'2" Carrot Stix dropshot rod.....And slap a Pflueger Supreme on it.... Other than a Steez/Steez combo it would be about impossible to find anything lighter.

Looking to start the year right! Reel Questions...
With a $60 budget I would look at the Pflueger president....Rock solid reliability. Not the lightest...But won't let you down. For rods, look at Gander rods. They have the best deal going in low budget rods. For baitcasting equipment on that budget I would look for used. A used Daiwa or ABU reel is a pretty safe purchase. Nothing wrong with working on a small budget. Times are tough everywhere.

What is your favorite/go to 7.1:1 reel?
Just about all of their reels are offered in a 7.1.1

P-Line Flouroclear and Yo-Zuri Hybrid
I find it hard to beleive that anyone has issues with memory with the Y/Z. I had zero problems with memory or twist when spooled on Pflueger Supreme's 8030 which is a small spool reel....

Speedy reel cleaning tutorial
Our members who make a living servicing reels recommend NEVER opening a reel without schematics. 8-) Been taking my own apart for 15 years......Never payed anyone who was making a living doing it, to do it for me, and never needed a picture. 8-) Yeah for you!!!!! With patience and common sense yeah for anybody.

yo-zuri hybrid question
As much as I hate the bandwagon approach (shimano for instance) I can honestly say this line is even more than it's cracked up to be. I've nearly straitened Bagley shaky head jig head hooks with 8lb Y/Z Hybrid.

BPS vs. Cabela's ?
I won't argue that sponsorship goes a long way toward influencing what a pro uses.... But there are at least a couple big name guys that actually use BPS stuff. Even in the Bass Master Classic. Clunn and Evers were both using BPS takle. It all boils down to personal preference. I've done alot of business with BPS. From rods, reels, takle, clothing, tents, camp gear etc...I've always been happy. At cabelas, I couldn't get one minute of help from anyone remotely knowledgeable even after picking up about $1,000 of stuff in one trip....

BPS vs. Cabela's ?
How many Pro bass fisherman do you see working with Cabelas? How much bass attention period does Cabelas offer? If you have ever been to a Cabelas store and a BPS store this would be a no brainer. My "local" Cabelas store is over priced, incompetent staff, and the fishing is undescribably pathetically stocked. BPS is usually the opposite on all counts. And I have a 7'6" BPS Johnny Morris Elite....85mil modulous, recoil guides etc. This is an excellent rod. I came away feeling like I got ALOT more rod for my money than I did with my Loomis. About the only rod in that length I've found lighter is a Carrot Stix. GLX is probably right there with it. Sensativity is great. But about all I've done so far is pitched jigs down at the river.....Lakes are either solid or trying to skim over constantly up here.

New To Shaky Head
It seems like more and more people are going to B/C stuff for techniques like this.... While I like better accuracy and power with a B/C, In my mind the shakey head, more than anything else (except maybe a tube) needs to be able to fall on a slack line

- Need Help With Drop Shot
Start with light line....8lb test. Less visible and thinner diameter. Round drop shot weights. In my experience the round weights hang up less. And are easier to maintain a consistant bottom contact. Tie a simple knot in the end of you tag end line to keep the D/S weight from slipping off. Gamakatsu Finesse hooks. 1, 2, 1/0, 2/0 depending on the bait being used. For instance Goby type baits would get a bigger hook since they are so think the Goby fills the hook gap to much with smaller hooks. You will tie a Palamar knot with the hook facing up. Leave a really long tag end, and loop that over the hook eye, and back through it. This will help to keep the hook standing out. Small 4" Finesse worms and minnows...etc. Spinning takly enable's you to use lighter line and get a slack line fall. It can be cast and fished anywhere but is usually better in lighter to little vegetation...weedlines usually outside, in deeper water....I intend to expand the areas I fish D/S this year including adding a texes rigged setup for thicker grass....- Reel Trouble *help*
You probably have the anti-reverse pawl on backwards. Pull the crank side apart again and send a picture. We'll get you set up. I've had those Abu's apart 100 times or more.- reel mindboggling
I've always been willing to spend more money on rods than reels. Until this year I've used Abu Ambassaduers....C3 or C4 depending on what I was fishing with... For some reason the LP after years of not feeling just right in my hand, really feel great....I swapped out 3 of my Abu's for BPS reels. An Extreme, a ProLite Finesse, and a David Fritts Crankin' reel. I can honestly say that you will be VERY happy with all three of those reels. And I bought all of them on sale and saved a total of $80 on the three of them.... Given money no object I'd opt for a slew of Daiwa Zillions, probably with some upgrades- Does anyone make a burner for round reels?
Typically no. But with their larger spool diameter, and longer handle they typically pick up more give similar gear ratios to a LP reel. A 6.3.1 Abu 4600 C4 picks up 30-31" of line per turn. That's on par with all the burner low profiles. And there are lots of upgrades for those reels.- New To Shaky Head
I put a Pflueger Supreme 8030 on my SHR 821. Couldn't be happier.- crankbait rod around $50
If you are dead set on combining a cranking rod with a jerkbait rod then the 6'6" rod is fine. But otherwise I would go with a 7 ft rod. I don't have any problems with accuracy in pretty close quarters (short casts of square billed cranks into laydowns when river fishing for example), and for long casts the 7ft rod is more usefull... But now way would I want a 7ft rod for jerkbaits......I'm good with the Falcon 6'6" rod I use for jerkbaits. But if I did switch it would be to a 6'3" rod. - Need Help With Drop Shot
