  1. I live in Roseville, so right next to Sac. Send me a pm if you'd like to talk about what's going on.
  2. I just have to throw in a vote for the Cardiff 300. Reel is great, I have caught A LOT of big fish on mine and it's still tickin' probably could use some maintenance but I honestly haven't even opened the thing up to clean it in over a year. It put my pb in the boat for me and I'll never part with mine as it was a gift.
  3. Good ideas so far. First off, he's dad, he's the boss so don't argue what he's saying. All your life you're going to have people tell you you're wrong for what you choose to spend your money on. I'm lucky enough to have a dad who showed me fishing and supports it as much as he can. I also have a girlfriend who in over four years has never complained one word about the money I spend on fishing. One thing I might say to your dad is that you understand he's looking out for your best interest, but let him know this is what truly makes you happy and that you'd rather spend your money on what makes you happy than go out and blow it on the everyday stuff you can do without like cds, fast food, or (imo) the largest waste, drugs. Let him know you find value in being in the outdoors and are trying to spend your money wisely on items that will last as you plan on spending time for years to come using the same equipment. This may show that you have an understanding of value and are still trying to be wise with how you spend your money. And if all else fails, just take the verbal abuse and come on here and let it go to the back of your mind!!!
  4. Yup it's the black dog "shimmy shad" which they apparently had to change the name to "fake fish"
  5. If I really had to use one it'd be P-line cxx in 10-12lb. On a spinning reel if we get to have that different it'd be 6lb P-line Halo Fluoro.
  6. The site is considerably slower for me on my Mac at home. Doesn't bother me too much, but you're definitely not alone.
  7. I know a lot of people including Velvick use the Revo Toro, I have though about going to the lower profile reels, and when I have the money available I'll probably be picking up a Curado 300. Right now I use a Cardiff 300a and I like it.
  8. SeanW said it best, there is no golden rule in fishing. How many times could we have possibly missed a bite because we were playing by the books? I say go for it fish hard fish for fish that you know are there and don't be afraid to experiment. I have gotten on some bites that I would never believe if someone else tried to tell me they did it haha, but hey you gotta go for it sometime.

  11. For some reason, a straight tail red worm on a shakeyhead this time of year gets em for me.
  12. Out here it's Wakeboats. With that said, I get over it quick, it's also their right to be out here enjoying the water and even though we do so in very different ways, I respect that they have no idea what I'm doing. Plus I spend more time off the water in the heat of summer.

  15. My other thought is go ahead and be obsessed while you're young, before you know it you're going to have to worry about that situation of, pay for medical benefits or a new box of crankbaits.

  18. First off there is nothing wrong with just asking questions, in a way believe it or not you are contributing. Many times I'll answer a question and it will remind me of something I am not doing, or should be doing, or stopped doing in the past. I dunno about too obsessed but I definitely have a problem with it never leaving my mind. I have been fortunate enough to fish with quite a few talented fishermen and from each one I take bits and pieces of their overall style to make my own. You develop this by time on the water with them and asking questions on forums such as this. Eventually things will begin to come together more and more and your focus will shift to trying to refine techniques or finding ones that will work best for you. If you'd like more help or have anymore questions feel free to pm me or also, my aim s/n is listed below. Hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask any questions.

  21. I remember I had the hardest time catching fish on a chatterbait, drove me crazy. Catch em a little better now but still not as good as I feel like I should.
  22. Goose52, Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate that. It rarely gets under 40 degrees here so I think I'll be good for the majority of my cold weather and I'm sure they'll work better than what I'm using now! Thanks again!
  23. I have a soft spot sometimes for a smallie beaver on a shakeyhead.
  24. I am strongly considering buying the Underarmour liners, how do these do once they're soaking wet? Do they still help at least a little bit? Will probably be pairing them with fingerless glacier gloves in fleece over the top. Thank you
