Crawfish
I like Sam's suggestion, Zatarans crab boil works great! If your going to use them as bait, there are 2 ways to fish them. Tail hook them, avoid the vien in the middle of the tail or he wont last long. Another way is to hook em through the "beak", just be careful not to stick their brain. Use very little weight, preferablly none.

skipin a lure
Its really not all that difficult. Like has been said, all it takes is practice. Easier with a spinning reel. Think back to when you used to skip rocks. Side arm with force.

Abu Garcia Black Max
I've never tried the newer ones so I cant comment on them but I still have a couple Black Max, Silver Max and Pro Max reels from way back, the older ones, and they perform flawlessly.

Solo or group fishing -- your preference
Me personally, I like both equally as well. There are times when I enjoy one more than the other but overall I enjoy both.

bedding fish
Just like Fluke said, it depends on the water clarity. Out here in CA the waters are normally very clear. I've seen bass on beds in 20+ feet as well as water so shallow I was surprised to see them there
