  1. So who's going to be the first to buy one of the US Reel SuperCaster baitcast reels? I got my hands on one of the pro versions that was spooled with mono & a casting plug. I got to throw it a few times & was really impressed with the way it casts. But I had someone hold the plug & walk away & the drag didn't seem to be the smoothest. I want to hear from someone who actually hooks into some good fish with one. Who's it gunna be?
  2. How clear/stained is the water? If it's chocolate milk I wouldn't worry about it. Anything else, and I'd want a leader. I usually keep my leader short enough that I don't wind it through the guides.
  3. It's not as though there's a single Pflueger factory, or a single Shimano factory etc. I do know that when Garcia introduced the Revo reels, they were made at the same factory BPS was using for at least some of their reels. If you ever see reels while they're still in their factory cases, you can usually tell which factory they were made at.
  4. For what it's worth, I happen to know Rick Clunn is VERY involved in the development of his rods & reels. On a side note, I happen to have both a Curado, and a Clunn reel that are the same age (about 6 years old) and have the same usage. Haven't had a problem with either. I do like the Curado a little more, but it was a little more expensive. With my newer reels, these guys are typically just back-ups now.
  5. Just a quick color comment... The color we see is a result of the particular wavelengths of light that are absorbed (or actually not absorbed) by an object. Because red light waves are the longest (of visible light) they are the first to be blocked out by water. In other words, as you go deeper under water, red is the first color to "disappear". But the object that DID appear to be red will not be invisible, it would just appear to be on the grey scale.
  6. I have quite a few spinning set ups, and here are my 4 favorite reels in order: 1) Symetre (previous I series): Light weight, very smooth drag, and don't have any complaints with it. 2) BPS Pro Qualifier (current model): This reel is much better than the older model I tried. No line twist problems, casts well, and smooth drag. At $50 (on sale) it's my favorite dollar for dollar. I would only wish for just a little more line capacity. 3) President (current model): Similar drag performance to PQ. A little more line capacity is a plus in some applications. I find it a little more likely to result in line twist, but not often. 4) Sahara (previous B series): Drag is smooth, but takes just a slight noticable spike at start up. Equal to President as far as likelyhood of line twist, and smoothness of retrieve, but President feels just a little more solid. That's just my observations.
  7. Correct. I started to mention light defraction, but thought I'd keep it more simple. That's why I started my explanation with "Basically". Anyway, the point is adding tint to fluoro makes no sense. >
  8. It was red AND Fluoro? Basically, the concept behind fluorocarbon is that it has the same density as water so it becomes "completely" invisible. There would never be any reason to add a tint to it.
  9. I have the reel grips on most of my reels (both casting and spinning). I don't know that I'd call them a BIG plus, but I like the feel of the grip. Since it does seem to really grip your hand, I feel like I'm gripping the handle with less pressure. I'd give them a thumbs up.
  10. I'm sure if you checked with a reel repair place, you could make a different grip work. Another option would be to use that Ruberize-it dip designed for tool handles.
  11. There should be a small knob inset on the top of the reel on the handle side. Just loosen that all the way and the opposite side sideplate should twist off.
  12. If you still want a power handle, BPS does carry them. I can't post a link since this is my first post.
