  1. Ditto. Muddy_man, you said it all,
  2. Fishbear stated: Most people didn't pick up on that so quickly, fishbear. That's why it is considered one of the best "horror" movies by many. I like horror movies that are done in a fairly intelligent way. Usually, this requires some kind of twist at the end that shows some intelligent thinking was used in the movies' creation. Of course when I was very young I liked a lot of horror movies but things change as you get older. Some of my favorites are: Sixth Sense, The Others, Signs (which actually is about faith but uses horror as its vehicle), and the original Saw. Like others have stated, when I first saw Jaws at age 13, I was scared senseless, because nothing had ever been done like that before. The Exorcist was the same way. I watch these movies now and they do nothing for me, but at their release, they were some of the best.
  3. fishingJ: That sounds like some good eatin'. In the future, be careful, because I think deer have to be more than 60 inches from nose to tail to be a keeper. Some states have slot limits and I believe you also must catch them on artificial baits as well. After the D.A.S.S tournaments at my local lake, there are generally a lot of deer swimming around near the docks after they are released. After they have been released for a few hours they'll usually bite again.
  4. That sounds like some good eating. Glad that you had a great time.
  5. Well, the smallest bass I ever hooked would be a world record, but, d&*$, if it didn't shake its mighty head and throw the hook at the boat. I'm still seeking to beat my personal best in this category. :
  6. rocknfish, I would be looking for deep structure if your water temps are 40 degrees. The fish in the deeper water will be less affected by your high winds as well. Of course, if the wind is 35 - 40 mph I'd stay off the water.
  7. Part of the problem for St. Louis is that, as a city, it cannot annex any more land from St. Louis county. It is surrounded by suburbs that are thriving in St. Louis County, but I believe it is the law for that county that St. Louis must remain inside its existing borders. Since the city has aged, much of the area within its borders has become run down and has become a haven for crime, as occurs with the oldest areas of any city. Other cities can annex land and spread out into new areas. These new areas have very little crime compared to the core which lowers the crime rate for those cities. St. Louis is not able to do this. St. Louis has done a lot to improve its downtown but this area is still surrounded by slum and ghetto areas.
  8. Fishbear, only you can choose which line is best for you and it will probably take some trial and error. Your post states that you've read a number of threads regarding different lines, so you are probably already familiar with the applications at which each line excels. All that is left is to buy a few spools and try them out and see what works best for you. If you need further explanations about the pros and cons of each type of line, let us know.
  9. I have a Cabela's available on the way home from work, and the BPS is almost ready to open which is about 10 miles from my work, and also on the way home. I've already made a list.
  10. I don't get it. I always pull my boat this way. What's the problem?
  11. Quote from Flechero: I agree with the logic from Flechero above. But, playing the devil's advocate, many anglers switch hands and begin to reel a buzzbait just before it hits the water. I don't see that they would miss a fish under these circumstances. Like Roadwarrior, I cast with both hands unless I am fishing from a bank where it isn't feasible to do so. I think two-handed casting is the best possible method to use, personally.
  12. Hightekredneck, how cold is your water? Everything mentioned so far is good in the fall. If your water is down in the lower fifties or even the upper forties I'd be looking at jerkbaits like the Xrap, husky jerk, or Smithwick Rogue. I'd also have some jigs and trailers onhand.
  13. I work for Sprint and we deal with the United Way also. I make contributions every year. LBH, that would be great if you could get CAST in the United Way fold. I would want to direct some of my contributions in CAST's direction.
  14. Indeed, St Louis is going to be Party town this weekend. Watch out for drunk drivers, RW. Riskkid, thanks for your support in the series as well. I hate to see this thread end. The sportsmanship and camaraderie exhibited in this thread is what a good forum is all about. I appreciate all of you guys. So what's next? How about a thread on the football season? Those Raiders, Bills, and Cardinals are looking mighty tough. :
  15. I just had to remind everyone of my quote above when the Cardinals were almost blowing their lead in the division. I'll be taking anyone's request who would like to speak with their dead relatives later today. Weaver pitched magnificently. Who would have thought it. As already stated, Muddy_Man, thanks for all your support, Dude. You're the man. Cardinals, 2006 World Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of us look at a thread more than once. This is my second time looking at this thread which skews your results, but I do get the gist of what you're saying and I agree. Many times if I see a post that hasn't received a response in a couple of days, I'll try to make a decent post to help out. A lot of times I'll look at a thread and others have already stated the same viewpoint as I, so I can't see cluttering it up by repeating the same information. But, sometimes, I'll respond anyway.
  17. Indeed. Tell them you're there to have fun and forget about the stresses of life. You don't need them adding more stress. If they don't get it, then eliminate them from your fishing trips.
  18. Just a note to the PowerPro users of which I used to be one. A lot of guys love PowerPro. I loved and used PowerPro exclusively for braid applications until early this summer. Dodgeguy got my attention with his posts on Sufix Performance Braid so I bought a spool. I'm still using some 10 lb test PowerPro on one of my spinning reels because I had a spool left, but I'm using Sufix for all my braid needs now. When I respool that reel I'll be using Sufix. It beats PowerPro with less fraying, better casting, and flows much smoother through the line guides. You may disagree but its worth it to try out a spool if you haven't.
  19. The Cardinals continue to amaze me by hanging tough. The Tigers amaze me as well with the errors they are making. And little David Eckstein is some ball player. Even when he isn't getting hits he's driving the pitch count up at the plate. I hope they can win it tonight at home.
  20. Seinfeld . . . . the greatest show on earth. But I think the quote that most applies to the Yankees is from George Castanza: "This was supposed to be the summer of George!"
  21. I think ReelMech said it all in the quote above. It would seem more logical to use a left-handed reel if you are right-handed but there are many exceptions. My right-hand may be dominant in most things but after you do something for a long time with your left-hand it becomes just as proficient as your right, and maybe moreso, if you do the action more with your left-hand. In third grade I broke my right arm and I kept messing up the cast. I had it on for three months. I learned to write left-handed and the writing was just as good as my right-hand. Regarding the strength of each arm, I've made it a habit to workout steadily over the years so I don't have any problems slinging a rod with either hand. It all depends on you. If you start out with a spinning rod you'll probably want a left-handed baitcaster. If you start out with a spincast reel like I did, you'll probably use a right-handed baitcaster. I do still use a left-handed spinning reel. Enjoy whatever brings bass to your boat.
  22. I've had mixed success in northwestern Missouri. When they're biting, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jigs have been the go to lures. I've caught a few on plastic worms also, but these were on slow days.
  23. My weirdest thing this summer was a post I made in early summer. The link is below. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1150119537/0#0
  24. Any year of bass fishing is a good year! KU_B, your year mirrors mine to some degree. I've been on a quest for a new personal best and I didn't even come close this year. I'm wanting to break the 7 lb mark. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much. I had a great year catching 2, 3 and 4 lb'ers, but I only caught 2 over 5 lbs that I'm sure of. Otherwise, I've enjoyed myself immensely. To improve for next year, I'm decent with the carolina rig but I still want to improve with this technique. I'm also going to be working with the dropshot which I hardly ever use. I'm planning on fishing more this winter than I have the last few years, as well.
  25. In the past, I've only worn my jacket on windy water or when I had kids in the boat, and in that case we all had a jacket on. This thread has led to a re-evaluation of when I should wear the jacket. Thanks, everybody.
