Help! Motor leaking fuel!
Hi Guys, My 1953 Evinrude Fastwin 15hp is leaking fuel and I'm trying to figure out why. It seems to be coming out of the exhaust (bottom hole on the back of the shaft) It's also possible that it's just running down the shaft and seems to be coming from there. It also was coming out of the high speed knob, but the nut was loose on the carb so I tightened it and it seemed to stop from there. This all happened after I pulled it off the stand to put it back on the boat. (I tilted it back a bit). I let the motor sit on the stand with pressure in the fuel line. Would that cause it--just filling up the carb and it spilling out? Should I relieve the pressure when not in use? Any troubleshooting, advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Minn Kota Powerdrive Bow Mount Help.
Hi Guys, I got a Minn Kota Powerdrive 40lb bow mount off a buddy of mine. Works great except I cant figure out how to mount it. Is it supposed to come with a mounting bracket that it slides on to? Found quick release brackets online but don't want to spend $60. He says he didn't think it came with one. Looks like it should. If not, how do I mount it? Thanks for the help!

New V hull mod Project!!
Hey guys, Picked up a steal today. Sold the $75 jon I bought and modded with a trailer for $900. Not bad, so I grabbed a 1958 Aqualine 14.5 ft semi V with an excellent running 1953 15hp Evinrude Fastwin sitting on a 1986 cox trailer for only $500. Everything is in great shape structurally and mechanically although I am having the V professionally welded to be safe. I also got a Minn Kotta Powerdrive 40 lb bow mount off a guy that owed me a favor for only $50. I think I stepped in sh**. I am modding this to a bass rig and wanted to share the before and after with everyone because we all love this stuff! If anyone can post the link to the V mod I saw a while back, I would appreciate it, always looking for more ideas. Here are the pics the guy sent to me before I bought it. I couldn't believe how he had it painted.

10 ft jon boat conversion
Well guys, I decided to sell the little jon. I bought it for $75 and sold it for $700 and still have the trailer. Not bad! I picked up a 1958 Aqualine semi-v hull on a Cox trailer with a 1954 15 horse Evinrude Fastwin that runs amazing. All for only $500. I am in love with that old motor. Sanded the boat today. I'll take some before and after pictures and post 'em. I think it's going to turn out pretty cool. It's much bigger, I'll tell ya that.

Trolling motor
I would guess it's the battery. Seems like it's not holding a charge.

10 ft jon boat conversion
It's 34 on bottom and 42 on top.

10 ft jon boat conversion
Thanks for all the compliments and advice guys. The little boat turned out much better than I expected it to. It was a hunk of junk for $75 bucks when I bought it. It's not that bad to fish out of, like you guys said you just have to be careful. Painted the trailer gloss black and chromed the little rims since the last pictures and it just makes the whole thing look a little cleaner.

Get fired go fishing
I think I take it the wrong way when she gets on my case about going fishing----cuz it aggravates me!! Ha Ha

New Style
Like he said, just look for cover, fallen trees, stumps, docks, grass beds, lilly pads. Fan cast around points and coves. Look for "highways" where the fish can easily get from shallow to deep water quickly. Areas where water enters and exits the lake or pond. Last but not least, find out what they're hitting--switch baits often until you find what works.

Get fired go fishing
Then you aren't doing it right. I do it very right. What are you talking about? I have my boat, all my equipment, lures, etc., etc. I make myself a couple sandwiches, get a few gatorades and I go out and it costs me gas money to get where I'm goin'. Then I catch some bass. Sounds right to me. If fishing is costing you a fortune, then you aren't doing it right. There are guys that spend thousands and thousands a year and catch no more fish than other experienced fisherman that spend a few bucks a day. If you're good enough, you'll get paid for fishing. Now that's really doing it right.

Ever approach an owner of a pond?
I can't even get my grandmother to let me fish her pond anymore (which is loaded with huge largemouth) because someone snuck on her property the same night I was fishing there during the day and left a pile of beer cans and trash. She thought it was me. She's a bit grouchy. I even offered to clean it up. If I ever find out who did it, they'll be sleepin with those fishes............

Get fired go fishing
I always say to my wife when she goes shopping, at least when I go fishing it barely costs us any money!!

What is your favorite top water lure?
Believe it or not, Wal Mart buzzbaits. They are $1 and usually on the bottom rack. Buy a few, not all of them spin correctly. Because of that, I found that by bending the blades at more of an angle, some of them will make a wicked loud whistling noise and when I could get that to happen, watch out baby, those bass get mad as hell.

How many of you are Right handed but use a Left hand retrieve Bait cast reel?
I would have to believe "correct" is what feels right to the individual angler.

10 ft jon boat conversion
There are some good ones. Biggest I got out of there was around six. It's very consistent with 2, 3, 4 lber's. If you ever decide to give it a shot, send me a yell and I could tell ya where the hot spots are. There are also 2 reservoirs on the top of Campbell's ledge that are awesome. Need av ATV for those. A fish every five minutes up there, nothing huge from there yet, 3 max, but tons of fun. Enormous bluegill occasionally on spinner while going for bass.

10 ft jon boat conversion
Yes Sir, The picture near my name is of my wife fishing for the first time in her life at the swamp. She caught a 3lber on her 2nd or third cast and then that nice one in the pic. Probably close to 4lbs. I caught 4 or 5 that day and she had me in weight no problem. I've been fishing there for years and have they're patterns down pretty well. You ever fish it?

10' jon boat casting deck
Thanks, just finished it up and got it out. It is tippy when standing on the front deck, but when we're both sitting it isn't that bad. It's no Skeeter, but it'll catch me more fish than walking the banks. I wouldn't advise against doing it, because 10 footers are tippy to begin with, I just recommend that you be cautious while on the water.

Brand new trolling motor is messed up!!
I recently purchased a minn kota 50 lb transom mount. Beautiful day today so I took it out for the first test run. Well I launched the boat and by the time I got everything settled up I had drifted to the other side of the cove facing the shore. I put the motor in reverse and it shot me into the bank! Forward is reverse and vice versa. I couldn't believe it. I would guess the is some kind of crossed wire to the motor but I don't want to mess with it and void my warranty. Has anyone ever heard of this or know exactly what is wrong? If it's an easy fix, I might try it, if not, I'll take it to have it repaired but I'd hate to be without propulsion because the weather is going to be great this week. Somebody help!!

10' jon boat casting deck
I also have a 10' jon and did put in a casting deck. The decking added weight, made the boat sit lower in the water and therefore a little more stable while we're sitting. standing on it is quite tippy, but if you're careful and only use it on small bodies of water you could make it work. I had the original intention of just rowing and putting around, but as usual I took it too far. Here are a few pictures. http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu119/roberthull3939/10ftjon001-1.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu119/roberthull3939/10ftjon002.jpg http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu119/roberthull3939/10ftjon003.jpg

10 ft jon boat conversion
Here are a few pictures of the boat. It's a little different than the $75 piece of crap I bought a few months ago. So, how long before I flip it?
