  1. That was shaft including arrnature.
  2. I had a Minnkota trolling motor that I bought at a yard sale. It had a bent propeller shaft. Minnkota sent me one gratis.
  3. Oregon is another state not altogether pleased with bass. Many previously pristine trout fisheries have seen the illegal introduction of bass, both large and small, but they've pretty much given up trying to fight it. They have given up a lot of fingerling stocking and instead stock a little larger trout so the bass don't feed on them. They do now have laws regulating bass harvest but the laws are not enforced because bass are not a native fish.
  4. 1st tell her you're going to assign her a corner then tell her it's her business when she wants to pick herself up out of it.
  5. I remember the years when I used to strip and dive over the side. I could "thro" myself back over the gun'el. Those years are far behind me. I fell out of the boat and fortunately was not fishing alone. It was still a chore. I will never again fish without a boarding ladder.
  6. I fished a hand control for years with 360 degree steering[Motorguide]. I loved it. My fishing partner hated it. I had a foot-control on/off switch available from BassProShops. I had to locate my bicycle seat as far forward as I could get it. Seat base also available from BassPro. I've since bought a new boat and am sorry to say its not configured for hand control.
  7. I too, am with you MaineBassMan[in another life I owned a camp on North Pond in Maine]. I'm still looking for that 5 pounder and I've been at it for nearly 50 years.
  8. I'm not sure I buy this black business at all. I've been bass fishing since the '60s. My all-time best producing night lure is a chrome U-20 flatfish that wobbles just under the surface--no rattles.
  9. Shakespeare quit making the Flapjack sometime in the 70s. Similar to the Lazy Ike it was bigger, ran wider, deeper and slower than the Ike. I still have a half dozen and its a killer. And then there's the timeless Jitterbug...
  10. I have a 2004 Tracker with a modified flat. Just bought it this year and am tickled to death with the way it handles in rough water. The reason? My last boat was an 88 Tracker flat bottom that I bought new. It nearly beat my brains out in the chop. I beat hell out of that boat and it was still in pretty good shape when I sold it. You could get back in the willow thickets, run it up on the beach, run it over stumps and rocks and nothing hurt it. The worst drawback was lack of space. The new boat has plenty except in the very back which is mostly gas tank and batteries.

Where can I get one of them there Micropterus Salmoides?
  12. Had two: the 1st was a jerkbait. I managed to jerk it into the top of my head. The 2nd was at night. Fouled a Jitterbug in some lilypads and when I jerked it free the Bug headed straight for my eye. The hook went between the eyelids and ended protruding out of the upper lid. Easy to remove. Just cut off the end and barb and it backed right out. How my eyeball got out of that undamaged I'll never know.
  13. I'm retired and thinking of relocating. Specifically, I want to be far enough south to be able to fish most of the year but far enough north to enjoy a good SM fishery. Further, I'd at least like the chance at a 6 lb SM. I know this site has bassers from all over the country and would like to hear your opinions.
  14. I don't flip but I pitch into very heavy willows. Lots of rough bark. I use Stren hi-vis fluoro #15 and drag them out thru some real crap. Have yet to break a line.
  15. I've had a number of hooks in past the barb in various parts of the body. Will relate two. One was a Jitterbug ripped off a Lillypad that went thru my eyelid from the inside out. A simple fix. Because the the barb was thru it was just a matter of cutting off the end of the hook and backing it out. A close and scary situation. The other was a trout fishing excursion to the desert streams of eastern Oregon. A similar jerk on a Mepps spinner buried it to the shank in the middle of my chin. Fussed with it a while and decided I needed medical help. We had been camping for a week, were filthy dirty, I had a full beard and it was 70 miles to the closest clinic. I walked in and the receptionist asked if she could help. I said, "well, I've got this here fish lure stuck in my chin." She laughed and said, "I didn't know. I thought maybe it was supposed to be there".
  16. A friend and I, while canoeing Oregon's Umqua river--a relatively fast piece of water--, have several times exceeded 100 sm each. After a while your thumb starts to bleed from grasping the lower jaw. You could hardly call them bragging fish.
  17. Thanks for the heads-up. If I decide to repair one of my Lowrance units I'll try there before Lowrance. Jim
  18. I run both Humminbird and Lowrance. Lowrance has the better 2D return but I believe in all other aspects Humminbird is superior. Also, I have in my garage 4 defunct Lowrance GPS units. Admittedly accumulated over several years, I'm still beginning to wonder about Lowrance.
  19. That fish is well over 5 lbs. Could be as much as 8.
  20. Worked 40 years ago, been workin' ever since white or pearl purple
  21. Caught many a night fish on dark baits but its not necessary. One of my best night producers is a chrome U-20 Flatfish. I've had it 30 years or more and the chrome has worn off. Just painted it with platinum nail polish and it still brings 'em in.
  22. There was a tourny a year or 2 ago, I believe somewhere on the St Larence. 1 boat brought in 30 plus pounds of small mouth and didn't get in the money. Can anybody tell me where that tourny was held? I want some of that action.
  23. There was a full article on this in BassMaster a couple of years ago. The guy wacky rigged and floated the Senko just over a submerged weed line. It helps to have a light wind which imparts action to the bobber and hence the Senko. The guy did very well and landed quality fish.
  24. I remember when some flash bulb company put hooks on flash bulbs and caught bass for promotional purposes. I've caught bass on another promotional lure--ever seen anything in the water that looks like a "can of Budweiser"? Shouldn't be overly concerned about color, either. Ever see anything swimming that's the color of a chartreuse spinner bait?
