J that is an awesome smallie!!! holy cow! tom you are correct..i am very limited with a drop shot. but plan on those 3 days be schooled. i know erie can be very tempermental when it comes to weather. i ordered some 1/2oz drop shot weights... and the 1/2oz live target goby to drag around.....i have some tubes also....that goby looks pretty good... i really appreciate all your responses....gonna be there Aug 5th, 6th and 7th. launching from east harbor state park marina.
  3. agreed...thanks Tom...your opinion is much appreciated.. dang J those are 2 awesome smallies!!
  4. thanks. sounds like the heavier weight makes alot of sense. especially coming from you (great respect) i've got some roboworms, Power Team Hammer Shads and Jackall clone Fry. i'll be using 6'8" Pinnacle Perfecta MF (that i won on BR a few years ago) and a Fenwick HMG MLF, both w/Pflueger Supreme's and #8 Invisx been thinking of the Tatsu for the trip. is it worth the extra $20 a spool?
  5. guessing that is not a spinning rod setup... what are your favorite drop shot baits.... i'm pkacing a TW order soon
  6. not much experience/success dropshotting. i know you want to use the lightest weight possible.... but, i am going to Erie for a 3 day trip in a couple weeks. i'm assuming we will be in much deeper water than i am used to fishing. a question, should i pick up some 3/8oz drop shot weights? is that too heavy? right now all i have is 1/8 and 1/4 thanks...
  7. Yes, a trailer hook. I've never had much of an issue in getting hung up on anything. The trailer hooks sits the same as the stock hook, it comes through timber or vegetation pretty much the same for me. And since I've started using a trailer hook my hookup ratio has went way up. I do agree that you need to wait a little bit and feel the weight as mentioned.
  8. Too many terrible 3 point shots down the stretch. It was ugly
  9. Frampton has always put on a great show. he truly enjoys performing. I first saw him in 1978 when i skipped out of school to go see him play in Terre Haute, IN. lol i have seen him at least 6 times throughout the years. i went to see him on the Frampton Comes Alive 35th anniversary tour in Indianapolis. he played the entire double album start to finish. it was awesome!! it was recorded live at each show and you could buy the CD as you left. of course i did. i live in Cincy now....where he has lived for many years. he plays a few shows a year locally too.
  10. I own 2 Aetos. Awesome rods! That's a great deal. You won't be disappointed.
  11. Jitterbug Chatterbait Big Colorado bladed spinner bait Buzzbait 10" power bait worm
  12. Gamakatsu round bend size 4
  13. I would ask the tackle store owner that recommended you try them what conditions others are using them for. For me it's overcast days seem to work the best
  14. Junebug Pumpkin green and black flake Chartreuse black flake
  15. Personally, I would still use a 3. But I think a 4 would be ok for that too.
  16. Fenwick Aetos. It fishes way above its price.
  17. nice fish... "sensitivity" can be a good line watcher too. never under estimate that part of the equation
  18. pop-r (change the hooks) cavitron buzzbait LC Gunfish Jitterbug (change the hooks) frog LC wakebait
  19. Mike's a great guy. And his jigs are top of the line. On one of the Road Trips, he literally made jigs for me in the cab of his truck by the light of a cell phone. How is that for customer service. :-)
  20. Color? Bud worked well for me on this one.
  21. If cost is an issue, and it sounds like it is. Then go with mono. Mono is much easier to work with than flourocarbon. 8lb Sufix elite or Trilene XL
  22. 1st day out with it. It's a keeper.
  23. I totally understand where your coming from. When I started I used (and still do sometimes) snaps. Not because I was lazy and didn't want to retie. But because I wanted to be able to easily change baits, not just plastics but crankbait or to top water.and do it quickly. As for pre-rigging plastics, I would pre-rig 6-8 and match them up by color and put them in Ziploc bags. Don't be lazy. Check your knots often.
