  1. Who says the Mods don't support our sponsors?!!??!! (I kid! I kid!)
  2. The ProQ drags are already carbon so if you get improvement over the carbontex it's going to be small, but because they are cheap, it's something fun to try. It could be hard to gauge how much the small improvement is going to be due to greasing/cleaning the washer stack vs. the new washer itself, however. Send a reel off to DVT to have it supertuned. Clean and tune a reel yourself. Compare the 2 and see if they perform differently. Bearings have been mentioned but only if you have too many miles on your current set. Polishing the brake track is another thing to try (not just cleaning it, but hardcore polishing) The Chronarch is just a Curado, so when you get to that point of trying, pick up whichever is cheaper and the color scheme you like more. There's no need to rush - it's just another reel. Regardless of how many times LMG opens his mouth to change feet.
  3. My point isn't that pins and mags achieve the same as pins alone, rather pins and mags achieve much more adjustability and thus performance than pins alone. It's just a feature to be weighed when making a decision; some may want it, some may not.
  4. You didn't mention the magnetic brake on the Lews, in addition to the centrifugal, which gives it far more adjustability than just a third pin on or off.
  5. Personal preference. Both are fine reels. Decide which one palms better and looks nicer in your eyes.
  6. The point behind using opposite brakes is for balance while rotating. You don't ever have to go opposites on any reel, it will just behave differently. Whether you can tell the difference is something only you can answer.
  7. Of course it's beatable - it goes on sale every few months and then you can get it for $79.
  8. I buy my jigs bulk from Cadman and make my own skirts. I use rubber bands instead of wire ties with no issues; I'll lose the jig long before the rubber wears out and if it does, I'll just put another one on there. It also allows me to change skirts on the fly if I desire. I use a mix of Living Rubber and silicone in the actual skirt strands.
  9. What and miss out on a big chest-thumpfest? Please take your facts elsewhere, they're only getting in the way..
  10. Hmmm, not sure what my eyes were doing to me but I could have sworn Scorpio was referencing the Pro Q in his post and not the Lews. My mistake. I was scratching my head when I thought he was saying the Pro Q was every bit as good as the Premier. Ignore my prior post while I schedule a trip to the eye doctor..
  11. You can measure the size of the Extremes washers and contact Smooth Drag for what they have in that size. They will solve your problem.
  12. Hopefully you aren't spooling the whole reel with whichever premium line you use. Fill 1/2 of it with the cheapest Walmart line you can find and the remaining half with your good line. You'll save yourself some serious dough this way in a very short amount of time.
  13. It's not uncommon; I know of a few others including one die-hard posse member. It's not a negative on the Core at all, though, so don't read it that way.
  14. Had a Core and sold it; currently still have 3 51's. The Core is a work of art, that's for sure; gorgeous to look at and hold. Although I've not used a Steez, I'd say it would be the closest competitor/superior to the Core. I haven't tried a TP yet, but if a tuned 51 can be close to a Core, it wouldn't surprise me if a TP is also close (albeit a different palm-print).
  15. My wench served her purpose so well I decided to marry her.
  16. Can anyone provide or point me to current Kentucky lake fishing reports? I'll be down there next week and am trying to prep, thanks.
  17. Watch the 2nd video - he did exactly that with a 10" worm.
  18. Drop shot with a heavier weight on heavier line, and a very short leash. You can Texas rig it with a normal hook if you need it. That and the jika rig are your best options.
  19. In the end, only you (the OP) will be able to decide which is the better reel (for you). The Curado is a proven reel that performs extremely well. The Lews is a great reel as well. It'll just come down to your preference and you'll never know for certain unless you actually fish them both. The good news is you won't have a bad experience with either reel and the resale value for both will prevent you from being out much $$ if you decide you want to try something different than the one(s) you get.
  20. You need to study up on the definition of "review" a little more. He went through a litany of reasons why he *thinks* the Lews is built/designed poorly compared to his Shimano. "Really? Do you need all those bearings?". Yeah quality stuff there. I can only imagine if it were in reverse and he was complaining about how the Shimano design doesn't make sense to him the Posse would go into apoplectic fits. The reel wars are a never ending source of amusement on here. So much self-worth tied up in purchase decisions; great stuff.
  21. Does the fact that others love a reel other than Shimano make you feel inadequate enough that you have write War and Peace to try and remain convinced that Shimano is the best reel ever? Good grief.
