  1. Hey Big Mike, If it's smallie your looking for hit the river. Little Miami has multiple canoe liveries if you don't have your own. Or they will transport you for a reasonable fee, have kayaks also. Some of the better river fishing in OH except for around lake Erie. Good luck
  2. 1/16 oz jig with mini tube and grubs, look at this beast, they hit anything in the pond in my back yard.
  3. Yes they are, can't stop thinking of how to sneak out and hit them again.
  4. No pics this time, had the kids in tow and was not even thinking of fishing, worried they were going to kill themselves in the rapids. That and the fish had given a good fight I wanted to release him quickly. Will be redoing the trip once school starts in a kayak with a friend. Pic will follow then. As for the skyline, one is right around the corner from the house. usually make it at home. could send you a can if your dying for it......
  5. Caught My first Smallmouth yesterday. Fishing in a kayak, with family in tow so I could not stop. Fishing with Ultra-light rod, 4lb test, Rapala lure, original minnow 1.5 inch, blue color. Fish was about 2 lb, about 14 inches, it was a hell of a fighter. Absolutely the best fighter I have ever encountered, jumped right after I set the hook, took two to three minutes to reel him in from 20 feet away. Awesome experience, now I know why everyone gets hooked on the smallmouth fight.
  6. Caught my first smallmouth yesterday thanks in part to alot of the advice here. Thanks for the start-up tips. I tried the grubs and other plastics because I had them in the tackle box. I was in a kayak on the Little Miami in Southwestern OH. I did have the family in tow so I did not get to stop and fish the eddies, yet I had plenty of hits while I was moving. Caught a 14 inch 2 lb smalley and I must admit, it was a hell of a fighter. I was using an Ultra-light with 4lb test. Caught it with an original Rapala, blue, 1.5in. It was a blast, like I said thanks for the tips and I'll be hitting the same river in September and October for sure. Plenty of great spots if you have the time to stop and fish. Next trip will be without the family so I can take my time.
  7. Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to get out....
  8. Thanks, You have to be from Cincinnati to know that a three way is spaghetti with chili and cheese, for those of you wondering......
  9. Thanks RW and Sfritr, should help a lot. I will be fishing just north of Loveland. As for the Skiline, I like my cheese coney's with everything, including the hot sauce.
  10. Hi all, Don't get to smallmouth fish much, going on a canoe trip on the Little Miami river in southwestern Ohio later this month. Want to know the essential tackle needs for trip is possible. Have two spinning rods, need to know tackle preferences.
  11. Rock Bass and not bad eating neither.
  12. There is a feeder creek that runs along the railroad track that crosses 747 in West Chester, I've fished it once and it has potential, lots of pools and slow moving. I think your right about their potential..... Good luck...
  13. Thanks it is fun. Have access to a canoe, fished in Cowan lake toady, very windy, did catch one largemouth, almost 3 lbs. Man it was fun, but the pond is nice to have in the back yard. Plan on hitting it tomorrow morning. Live just north of Cincinnati in West Chester, OH. Good luck....
  14. OK, been away so long miss identified the fish, they were black crappie. Caught my first LMB today, 1.5 LBS, 12 inches, was totally pumped. Using RAPALA floater, blue, crappie hitting it like gangbusters, Bass hit finally. I was jacked as you can probably tell, been 18 plus years since I caught a bass. Man Am I jacked.......
  15. Caught a couple LMB this afternoon in my local pond. Small but fun none the less. Seems like they are hitting it finally.
  16. Thank you all, looking forward to the help and advice.
  17. Interesting question, my answer would be depends on who is cooking. Never had a really bad tasting fish, when someone who knew what they were doing was cooking it! Except for carp, no insult meant if anyone happens to appreciate carp that is.....
  18. Hello all from Southwest Ohio. Fished as a youth until my early twenties, missed the last twenty+ years except for an occasional outing. Looking forward to the advice and knowledge from the group. Looking forward to all your help. I'm starting from scratch. John
  19. Anyone had any success yet with smallmouths on the Little Miami River in southwestern Ohio? Looking to hit it within the next week or so, in general the fishing here has been slow due to weather fluctuations.
  20. WOW! Thanks for the advice, it is greatly appreciated. Glad I joined the Forum. Thanks again.
  21. Thanks, I will research all, thanks for the help.
  22. Reccomendations wanted for spinning reels, I have two 7 foot rods, medium and medium light. Planning on lake fishing with a canoe and a jon boat this spring, bass obviously being the main objective. Any advice would be welcome.
  23. Thanks, I thought they were new and the best way to break into the market is with a good price. I'm just getting reaquainted with fishing after being away for many years. I'll need all the help I can get. Thanks again.
  24. Does anyone have experience using Acadia ES spinning reels? I was interested in purchasing one, the price is reasonable and they appear to be well made. Has anyone used them? And if so what was your impression?
