Ranger R61
So I'm shopping around for a used glass boat. Did a quick search and couldn't find much about that model on BR. Speed had a thread a while back, but not much info in it. One I stumbled on: 2001. Mechanically sound, 90 horse Merc (max for the hull), Minnkota 70lb, blue water LEDs. Needs the seats redone. Also would nee to purchase a cover. Price is at best offer. Nada has it at 6300 bucks roughly. Question is, any of you fished from one? From what I've gathered, it's a comfortable "small" bass rig. Though in reality, that's all I really need. I'm not planning on fishing any tournies or anything like that. Mostly going to be tooling around in the Glades and Loxahatchee down here. Would make the occasional run to Okeechobee, but not really go offshore. Just looking for a little info from you all on it, if there's any to be found here.

Getting Started In Drop Shotting.
Says who? Finesse is a mindset. You can finesse an ounce and a half jig in a mat just as much as you can power fish a tiny shakey head or drop shot... Besides, limiting a drop shot to light line and spinning gear can potentially make you miss out on some great fishing. I've used the drop shot on big braid and a flipping stick in very heavy vegetation.

Don't Throw A Spinnerbait On A Crankbait Rod!!!
X2 The 705cb definitely can stick a spinnerbait in. I love throwing small 1/4 spinnerbaits on that glass rod, no issues with larger ones either.

Best Rod For Square Bill Crankbaits?
Don't fall into temptation.... Dobyns rods can quickly empty your wallet That 705 CB Glass is just a killer rod. Use mine for traps, squarebills, jerkbaits, etc. It's an all around great rod for treble hook lures. I'm probably going to pick another one or two up before long.

Are You Willing To Buy Expensive Lures?
Yup. I sure am. Hate losing the occasional one though. Do certain really expensive baits catch more than cheaper lures? Eh, who knows. But they sure do look purdy on the end of a line!

1 Lure You Have No Confidence In...
Deep cranking my home lake. Caught a handful of fish with them. Just not enough to say I have any real confidence in throwing them. Spent a good couple of hours today trying, just didn't happen....

Roboworms
I use them all the time. Primarily on a drop shot. Also work great Texas rigged, Carolina rigged, wacky... Aaron's Magic Martens Madness Margarita Mutilator Tequila Sunrise Green Weenie 6" and 4.5" Straight Tail for the most part. They also happen to make a killer d**n swimbait called the EZ-Shad.

Reel For Deep Crankin - Revo Winch Or Pro Qualifier?
No experience with the winch. It certainly is a well regarded reel. The PQ I do have some experience with. Darn good reel, especially given its price. It's an even better bargain when it's on sale like it is right now. I bought three more today in fact as backups. Now, personally for deep cranking, I use a Curado 200 DPV. Old, big, tank of a reel. Handles everything. If you search around a bit, you can get them very cheap. I think mine was like 30 bucks. Give it a good clean and lube and it was good as new.

Durn Wind!
Take the day off to do some fishing today on my home lake and a front rolls through last night. Normally I'd still go out just to relax. But this 20+ mile per hour steady wind is making it impossible. I won't even get into what it's gusting up to. To the point where it's almost impossible to controll my little boat in it, much less make any decent casts. So I went and bought tackle instead. Not sure which is worse, the sting in my wallet, or me going stir crazy hoping the wind will die down at least a little....

Health Update This Bites
Health > fishing The fish aren't going anywhere. A bad back, especially in your case, more than likely won't get any better. Get the surgery done and get better. You'll regret it later if you pass on it just to catch a few more fish. Especially if it's already hard to stand. Sounds like fishing would be one hell of a task the way you feel at the moment.

Been a bit on the busy side. Glad to be back around.

I Got Fat!
Well, when I'm not working heavily like I was for the last few months, I eat a very clean diet. It still amazes me how much "clean" food I eat per day compared to some of the junk I used to chow down.

G. Loomis Rods, Really Worth The Money?
Worth is highly dependent on your income and your ability to spend that 300 dollars on a rod. If you're loaded, 300 bucks may be a trivial thing. For somebody on a fixed income, 300 bucks could be the rod of their dreams. That being said, Loomis makes some fine rods. Are there other companies that make a product that is just as good? Sure. Generally speaking, there are some differences between the 150 dollar rods and the higher end rods. Better quality components, etc etc.

Line Applications
Type of line and it's rating will vary from person to person, condition to condition. There are no absolutes in fishing. Buy one, try it. If YOU like it! then you're good to go. I'd tell you what I use, but mine will more than likely be very different from another poster. As well as the fact that mine can change depending on what lake I happen to be fishing. Ask 10 guys and you'll probably get 10 answers.

I Got Fat!
Thanks. So far so good. Only complaint is that I have to pound food down constantly to maintain weight right now. Body fat is melting away right now without any size or strength loss, thankfully. Slowly having to lower calories now that I'm not burning almost 10k a day at work. I'm going to miss just stuffing my face with whatever I wanted for a bit.

Beaver Style Baits?
RI Sweet Beaver RI Smallie Beaver SK Rodent SK Baby Rodent On occasion I'll use an Ugly Otter. I tend to use the Rodents the most though. Love those things, especially the smaller version. I use them t-rigged or as jig trailers. Can't go wrong with a beaver style bait.

Hide Your Women And Children!
Oh nothing bad happened. Business has been nuts, not that I'm complaining. Made some changes in my life to improve my health drastically. Went back to the lean beast that I used to be when I was on active duty. Down about 90 pounds and still shrinking no matter how much I eat. Roughly a 27-28 inch waist from the 46-48 I was before. Maintained and added plenty of strength though. Going to start competing in some small powerlifting events again. 175 pounds right now, dead lifting 600, squatting 400. Though my bench needs to come up some. Been exciting seeing how far I can go. Having my daughters keeping me motivated has been awesome. Set a goal, complete it. Wash, rinse, repeat.
