Unicorn Trout
I wish I could tell you where it was but I can't remember. I do know its not Greers. Same kind of place from what I see, though. Pay as you fish, can't throw anything back. Go home with a big fish fry.

Unicorn Trout
I grew up doing a lot of trout fishing in SW VA, specifically Cripple Creek. I did have an uncle that used to take us to a stocked pond that you had to pay to fish. That pond was seriously loaded and as my uncle used to say "why fish if you aren't gonna catch anything?" Definitely learned a different way from my old man though. Only place I've fished in the Central VA area that I've had any luck with trout was Ft. AP Hill and from what I understand they stopped stocking this year. I will have to look into some of the local spots I know they stock for some wintertime fishing next year. Do you know if they still stock Dorey Park?

Unicorn Trout
Okay, I've got to ask because we're both from Central VA, but where are you catching these fish? I pretty much only check this part of the forum because I would rather go to work than bass fish these days but still love fishing to the point where I want to see what people are fishing for outside of bass. I've noticed a bunch of posts from you this winter and would definitely like to find out more.

First Time Fishing Salt Water And Need Some Help
Where in SC are you going? A flats guide for some redfish would always be my recommendation. You can normally get a half day trip for anywhere between $300 - 400. As a bass fisherman I know for a fact you would enjoy this. Otherwise, I always use my catfishing gear for saltwater fishing. Just make sure you rinse it off afterwards like everyone else said. If you want some lazy fishing, just use the same rigging you would use for bottom fishing (carolina rigs) and maybe throw in the traditional saltwater bottom fishing rigs as well. Check out a bait shop down there to find out what they are biting on, typically mullet, squid, or shrimp. The last time I was down there I actually just bought squid from a grocery store and fried up the still frozen, clean leftovers at the end of trip.

Redfish/seatrout/snook Thread
I live in a freshwater world and because of that light tackle is my favorite thing. I hate a deep sea trip with big gear and only tolerate big gear when going out for rockfish in the Chesapeake Bay as that is what my friends tend to use. So from my various travels I have found that redfish are my absolute favorite to target and to be honest I hate bass fishing (am I in the wrong place or am I tired of spending money on it?). I have never had the chance to fish snook but it is probably on top of my bucket list of fish to catch. I've always wondered and I'm obviously in the right place for this question.....What's the comparison of fight for snook versus a redfish?

Crappie Spots In Hampton Roads
Work in the Suffolk area but don't live there. Have heard nothing but great things about the various Suffolk lakes for freshwater fishing. Don't know about crappie fishing, but do know that the lakes are apparently loaded with bass from striper to largemouth. If you are new to Virginia I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Buggs Island if you are seeking out crappie fishing.

Superglue Knots For Catfishing?
Trying to think of this structurally... I'm not sure that superglue would really do much other than bind the outside of the knot. An epoxy or something that can work its' way into the knot might help, but I doubt it as a knot would break outward, thus blowing a glue or epoxy out. You would need something with tensile strength, which the line would have more of than any product you could throw at it.

Places To Fish In Midlothian/richmond?
Funny, about 10 years ago Lake Salisbury was a midnight swimming hole for me and my dirty punk friends. Got chased out of there many times and never thought about fishing.

Buggs Island
Yeah I know you call it "in the bushes", but I was literally pitching against trees all day long. I know the web page too. My arsenal of lures is totally off as I haven't had any time for bass fishing in the last year. Mostly catfished last year when I was staying down in Clarksville for work.

Buggs Island
Fished last Saturday for my annual "Take My Dad Fishing Somewhere He's Never Fished" Father's Day present. Water is up higher than I've seen it in the last three years. Obviously a good thing. Made a ton of passes on a cove I've always had luck on near Clarksville. Was in the shade and kept dropping a natural colored senko next to the trees and getting fish after fish. Largest was near 3 pounds which is good for Buggs. Put my old man on his biggest bass on artificial (he's big on his nightcrawlers). Had a great day all in all. If anyone is fishing there before they drop the water, FISH THE TREES. No matter where we went every time I pitched against a tree I caught a fish. Note...we did stay up lake all day. Don't know how conditions are below Clarksville. Stained to muddy above town.

Jack Points On Trailers
FINALLY bought spares for my trailer, but instead bought two galvanized wheels and am planning on using old ones for spare. Anyways, where are the jack points on a trailer? Anywhere on the frame close to the axle? And scissor jack or bottle jack(the only two I have available)? Oh and its a 2009 Trail Star, 17' Nitro sitting on it. Thanks in advance.

Question For Those That Target Catfish...blues And Channels
I've found that (like everyone else said) channels will hit on anything. Have a lot of luck with frozen shrimp with them. I really never catch Blue Cats on anything other than fish caught on the same body of water I am fishing. Typically I will catch some sunfish, cut them in three's (tail, mid-section, head, toss the tail) and fish a combination of mid-section and head to see what they want on that day. The only store bought baits I've heard has a lot of luck is goldfish. And to share a secret (cuz really, I don't care...or I was duped)....I fish the lake where the world record was caught two years ago. The bait that he supposedly caught the fish on was chicken breast, soaked in RED kool-aid with garlic powder. I have used this bait and caught fish, but cannot verify whether or not this was the actual bait used for the world record.

Son's First Fish
It may just be relative to the size of your boy, but that even looks like a good size sunfish to me! Congrats!

Peurto Vallarta
Going to Peurto Vallarta around Christmas and wanted to start planning my fishing. When it comes to saltwater (or really all fishing) I'm a light tackle junkie. From a quick google search all I see are heavy trolling trips. I guess eventually I need to bow down to the marlin, but does anyone have any suggestions for trips that would be light tackle? And if not, I will take suggestions for big game charters if anyone has experience there. Thanks in advance.

Rappahannock River Around Fredericksburg
I know its probably a little too late, but for fun fishing NEVER ignore the shad run.

Richmond Beginner
Man I'm jealous. I'm out of town for work (as always) and haven't even thrown a rod in the toolbox of the truck since we're working sun up to sundown. Just throwing in my two cents...those in-line spinners (rooster tails) are GREAT for trout. You may still have a little bit of time to go up to AP Hill. I think this week is the free trout time as they get ready to shock the ponds. Just remember its a military base, read the regulations.

Kerr This Weekend
Was down there last weekend fishing from a dock near Clarksville. Water was stained and rising. Didn't catch anything, but wasn't really trying. One thing was my buddy was fishing catfish and bait. No bait, but one 10 lb cat. But based on weather last year vs this year fishing should be on fire.

Richmond Beginner
Seriously...hit the shad run. I haven't had the chance yet other than an earlier opportunity on the Rapp a couple of weeks ago. I will be on the James tomorrow downtown and this is some of the funnest fishing you will experience around here. Not a lot of work for the return. Expect frustration and expect to spend money. I grew up with worms and bobbers. My old man will still sit in the back of the boat telling me about how many little sunfish he's caught even if I've caught decent size bass. You will snag, you will lose fish, and you will get ticked off...but the one big one you get vs the hundreds of little ones you used to get will make your whole day. Depending on what you want to get after...research catfish on the James. Obviously this is a bass fishing site, but there are some gigantic catfish to catch around here. And when all else fails...listen to Sam. I don't post on here often, but when you lurk you learn. Sam knows all where Richmond is concerned.

Boat Batteries
I have a 2009 Nitro X4 that has probably been on the water 30 - 40 times since I've owned it (I really have a lot less time for fishing than I thought I would). Having owned it for 4 years and going into year number 5 with the boat I was wondering if I need to think about changing out the batteries. I haven't had a problem with them before, but would rather not find out I have a problem while on the water. Should I change them out? Or should I be fine to keep on going for another year?

Shad On The Rappahannock?
We went out on Tuesday to the Falmouth Flats....a bunch of guys were fly fishing, but no one seemed to be catching anything. We certainly didn't, but it would appear too shallow unless you get out into the water.... We then moved over to the City Docks Park. Me and a coworker caught 2 Hickory Shad a piece and a guy next two us caught two as well. All fish caught on either white darts or silver spoons. Obviously fish are starting to move in, but not real thick yet. Going again today.

Shad On The Rappahannock?
Haven't posted in a while. Didn't fish much last summer due to work so I didn't have much to post... But, I'll be in Fredericksburg for another couple of weeks for work....and by work I mean show up and do nothing. Figured I might see where the Shad run is best on the Rapp as they start moving in. Would the park downtown work? Any other spots?

Strippers In Chesapeake
Caught a 33" and a 41" near 37 and 38 on deep baits yesterday. No other knock downs. Day seemed hit or miss again on the radio. Everyone else who was catching said they were on stretches, but again....few and far between.
