  1. I have a procaster 6+1, like it alot. Aluminum body/frame, mostly(if not all) metal internally. The magforce brakes are a little less 'aggressive' versus a Fuego I have, but not a problem. For the money, it's a good real. Whether you go with the All Star rod, or something else, match them up in store to see how it feels in hand.
  2. For me (being the newbie I am), it's my g.loomis MBR783c with a TeamDaiwa Fuego.
  3. Just wanted to Thank everyone for the help, suggestions & links. I guess, on the surface, it seemed like a dumb question, but I'll keep practicing and having fun with it. Thanks!
  4. Thanks riskkid, it just doesn't seem well, BUT, I'm not sure how far I need to cast the lures I'm using in the environments I'm using them in. How far is far enough????
  5. Guys, I've been practicing really hard for nearly a month. Read everything on here. Can cast, not a mile, but longer than I thought I would be able to. Now, I can't cast past 60-70 feet with any accuracy. Obviously, wind can factor in, but I've not been able to cast really far & I don't know how this impacts how I want to fish. I fish senkos, plastics & 3/8-1/2oz Spinners. I fish from bank/shore/docks/rock ledges as I know no one with a boat. I can get it out there a little bit with these lures, but not that far. Just more practice? I'm using 6'6" poles with 12lb test, if that's any help. Thanks a bunch.
  6. Whatever you do, don't get discouraged. I've thrown spinning for a long time & still a mediocre angler, but with the information on this site, and practice, you'll master it. I bought my first BC nearly 3 weeks ago. When I started, using the info I'd found here, I was lucking to get it out 15-20 feet. I'm casting now 70-100 feet with accuracy now (no laughs please, I'm still learning). YOU will master it, just keep at it. Not even certain if I want to pick up my spinning gear again.
  7. Muddy, that was downright nasty & you should be flooogered for it! Have a great time at fork.
  8. RW, are senkos, zoom lizards and yums boogee tails soft plastics? Feel like that to me, but want more pro opinions.
  9. Welcome! This site is packed with great information & helpful people.
  10. I've always been a sucker for threads like this, but after 2 less than satisfying experiences with 2 shimanos (both now returned), I was left scratching my head. After doing some research, I decided to try a diawa 100h. Thought I would hate low-profile, but this reel is nearly perfect for me. Went back & bought a Fuego. Hopefully these will hold up well.
  11. Whew, what a war!!! I understand that Gloomis/St Croix are highly regarded, but I agree that those who have shouldn't rip those who are the have nots & vic versa. Many good/great rods out there, and I just got a Falcon, and a bps bionic blade/diawa procaster 6+1 since it was on sale as a combo. I played with loomis rods, and I believe once I get a handle on baitcasting, that may be the rod, (I have a new Avid & not even certain I can appreciate it yet), but loving this site & forum as I do, I sure hope those who DO own higher end rods can help us who DON'T own higher end rods with catching fish.
  12. I've been thinking about putting together a second bc rig, a 6ft for fishing around brush, timber, trees, docks etc. I've been looking at a GL2 versus a Falcon graphite, both at 6ft/MH. Primary for plastics, senkos, maybe some spinners. I have a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur, was given to me and is in great shape. Any advice is really appreciated, may another rod to consider?
  13. Muddy, thanks for the info. I'll do that. I figure it won't be all that easy or all that hard, but it's gonna take practice for sure. CJ, thanks, but honestly, I don't know if the 100A is good for it either. With the ratio it has, it may not be the best, but I bought it on the premise of it being a 'general purpose' BC for me. I concentrated more on the rod, and honestly, I wanted a St.Croix legend tourney basscaster, but was out of my budget, so I went with the Avid instead. From what I've read & been told the 100A will work. Guess I'll find out.
  14. I've been a reader & lurker here longer than I care to admit, but the information from all of you is great. I am a mediocre/average angler, been using spinning gear for the past couple of years after getting back into fishing. I bought my first baitcasting rig today, with the thought of learning with it & using it alot, without feeling I need to upgrade anytime soon. The rig is a St.Croix Avid AC66MF with a Shimano Cardiff 100A. For using small to medium spinners, rooster tails & some plastics (worms & grubs) and for a general purpose rig, I hope I did well. I guess I'll find out. I'm really looking forward to practicing with this combination & getting the feel for it. Any, and I mean ANY tips, additional info, or suggestions are certainly welcome by me & please, all, keep up the great work on this site. Great information! Thanks, Mitch
