Beginner Baitcasting Reel?
cool, thanks i'll look into it. I should have been more specific, I'm not looking for a piece of garbage reel that i'll get for $15 at walmart lol. I just don't want to break the bank because I want to make sure I like it and will actually use it first.

Beginner Baitcasting Reel?
So I thing i'm ready to move on to the world of baitcasters. I have never used one, and am looking for advice as to which to buy for an absolute first time user. I'm looking for something cheap at first to get my feet wet, and after some practice if I like it I will have no problem spending money to get a more quality setup for next spring. I will be using this reel like I said only for a short time, so durability is not very important. My biggest concern is just learning to cast, and using a reel that will be fairly easy to use for someone with no experience. Thanks!

Fluke Colors........
This is the best way I can explain it: The only color that can possibly catch a bass, is the color that's on the end of your line. Conversely, every color that is not on the end of your line has zero chance of catching a bass. As a result, we have more to do with the color that bass are striking than we might imagine...not the bass. If one angler is catching bass and the other is not, the wise angler will not waste mental energy thinking about color, but focus on far more important matters such as Lure Depth, Lure Speed, Lure Action, Lure Size, and Line of Retrieve. I fish only "bubblegum" flukes because it is highly visible, which gives me an edge on presentation. Roger agree 110%. people will say "You HAVE to use xxxxx color here, it's killer". Why is it killer? Because that's the color that spends the most time in the water. Most people will get so caught up in color, that they'll try a color for a few minutes, and if they don't get anything, now that color "sucks". If they DO catch a fish, now that color works and is amazing. Any time I hear people talk about what color works and what doesn't, I giggle to myself when I go to my box that has maybe 3 colors of soft plastics out of 100's of baits.

Fishing goals
yea, i was waiting for it lol. I'm sure some of you guys get bored of catching 5 pounders... If i pulled out a 6 pounder from my lake i would be screaming like ike lol

Fluke Colors........
could have been many things. the first thing I want to point out is that both caught fish. But could have been presentation, or just the bait looking the right way, or being in the right place at the right time. 99% of soft plastics in my box are the same color. Majority of the time I outfish the people i'm with. Why? Because my biggest concern is presentation, and location of my bait, not the color. Ever throw the exact same bait, in the same spot, and have someone catch more fish than the other person? Same example. Fish are weird. Just because a fish is there, and you put bait in front of it doesn't mean it will bite.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
nah. it should be good though. I wonder what it's going to be like, is it going to be like seinfeld episodes? or is it going to be totally different. I have been waiting for years for them to come up with what happened after they got out of jail. Many didn't like the finale, I did though. But the cast was so done at the end, I figured it would never happen. I'm really looking forward to this though lol. I'm beyond a seinfeld fanatic, it's kinda sad when you think about it.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
I'm not sure what you mean by that but theres not an actual Seinfeld reunion. It's just the premise for the new season of Curb. And if you like Seinfeld that much I would seriously recommend getting your Curb on. the reunion is on curb. It's going to be the first time they have all been together, and they're going so far as to bring back the writers, cameraman, grips, etc. and it's going to be on the seinfeld set. I'd call that a reunion! lol. regardless of what it's called, i'm lookingforward to it.

Fluke Colors........
we've learned that color is pretty much irevelent when it comes to lure selection. Any post like this, "What's the best color" will turn out 50 different answers. What does it mean? Just pick a color and go with it. The people that sit there and try 100 different colors in a day are just wasting their time.

Got a new scale
Once I got my scale, I started weighing anything that looks to be over 4 pounds (which before I had my scale was 2 pounders lol ) Getting your first scale can be a humbling experience. But it also makes you much better at your estimates.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
i've never got into curb your enthusiasm, but I can't wait for the reunion. Seinfeld is my all time favorite show, I have all 9 seasons, and know majority of the episodes inside out. I watch it pretty much every day. No other show I could do that with.

Removing hooks from weird places
Me too. When I use my 4/0 hook, that seems to be the perfect size to go right through the dinks socket. Never had it pierce the eye, and never had a problem getting the hook out. But still never pleasant.

where are you catching your fish?
My lake is man made, and there's not a large mount of natural structure. Once you get a few feet from the shore, it's pretty consistently 10-11 feet throughout, but there are a few dropoffs and some great stumps out in the water. I've been catching my fish right out in the middle, with no logical reason for even fishing there. The "Obvious" spots that anyone would think would hold fish are dead. I've been getting my fish like I said just randomly casting out in the middle of the lake, in a pattern that makes almost no sense when thinking about the fundementals of structure fishing. Here's a few from the middle This one is held right next to my body. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30379991&l=a96d905457&id=1003390062 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30378368&l=9742c10b1d&id=1003390062 In this pic you can really see i'm just out there in the middle http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30310774&l=51165bca81&id=1003390062 These are great fish in my lake, I'm yet to break the 5 pound mark. (lucky southerners that think a 5 lber is a dink i hate you lol ) But I fairly consistently pull out nice 3-4 lbers. That being said, break the mold. If you're not catching fish on the shore (which is typically not the ideal spot over the summer) just get out there and try new spots. I ended up randomly casting in frustration one day, my thoughts were "Fishing sucks this year! I may as welll just throw my bait where I know there are no fish. That way at least I know it won't be my ability to find fish" and then WHACK! There they were! So give it a try!

New World Record - Trout ?
did he paint a musky to look like a trout lol. that's a hell of a fish

Dust collecters
I don't own anything I don't use. I think it's rediculous to have 9 tackle bags full of stuff, when everything that you actually use can fit in a small box.

SK Elaztech Fluke help
I rig my flukes with a 1/8 oz. keel mustad twistlock hook. Helps it get under the water, and stops it from spinning on faster retreives.
-
Soft plastic... set the hook like a pro?
If I feel or see ANYTHING unusual, I will reel the slack and set the hook. I don't yank like crazy, if you have sharp hooks it shouldn't be hard.
-
Rage Shad trouble
good call. i've never had it twist, ever.
-
Rage Shad trouble
I use a 1/8oz keel hook with the shad. Allows for further casting, and keeps the bait straight. It's a light weight, so it doesn't make it hard to get the bait to the surface.

Finally got hold of some rage tail lobsters
Would you walk down to the corner when the Bunny Ranch is 50 miles away? well, since you put it that way.... lol I just ordered some lobsters and some jigs. looking forward to trying them out.

What other species do you catch while fishing for bass?
we've pulled some decent pickerel out of the lake this year, there's musky in the lake but I haven't caught one yet. They stock walleye, haven't got one of those either lol. But only time I catch anything other than bass besides pickerel is when I'm using a small crankbait, and I'll get some perch and bluegill. I've got a few crappy as well. that's about it for me.

Fishing Hurts!
never heard of that. it's probably more likely something along the lines of what long mike said. If it hurts that bad, maybe try wearing some gloves while putting the bait on.

Slow Midday Fishing...
I agree. I think many people miss out because they want to follow the "rules".
