  1. Kind of tough to mess up But I think you can by pre-made skirts from living rubber company as well.
  2. If you make it an hour or so west to the Madison chain I know the area very well, you can give me a PM if you make it out this way. Also lake Delavin and whitewater lake are great, the Wisconsin river has some good spots as well. You got Muskego near milwaukee thats a good lake, as well as the entire Oconomowoc area.
  3. looks like some white bass or rock bass. The one on the right is a small mouth it looks like.
  4. His original screen name was PeeWee...
  5. I started as #1 and I 'm not ashamed of saying so, the only thing I "regret" is having spent all that money when I could have purchased better , and I say "regret" in between " 's because I learned a bitter lesson. Now I 'm #2 and #3. Don 't blow away my money that easily ....... nodays the BaitMonkey is by far a lot more selective and it 's habits are increasingly becoming more expensive. :-/ 17 bucks for a Hudd 6" Weedless Trout .....¡ YIKES ! and FYI, I didn 't purchase only one. : Thats one great thing about bass resource. Without it I would no doubt be probably 80% #1 and 20% #3. But with it here, I like to think I'm about 40(#1) and 60(#2). I still impulse buy more than I probably should, but at least I have more knowledge from members here in a direction I should focus my impulses
  6. The Parm or the Mango Habenaro are my 2 favorites.
  7. Welcome!
  8. Looks at those laser lures that Ike promotes... those things are designed to catch anglers... not fish. Ike says their great in his advertisement... have you ever seen him throw one? Reading his book opened my eyes immensely to advertising. I think I have avoided many advertising gimmicks, though I do enjoy the strike king tubes... if not only for the coffee smell. There are also 3 types of anglers imo: 1) The anglers who must have the newest, most specialized gear immediately and are impulse buys 2) The older not necessarily more knowledgeable, but more resourceful anglers, who have been around, know what will work and what is a gimmick. They tend to avoid much or the new impulse gear, sticking to the older more reliable gear. 3) The angler who is resourceful, has been around long enough to know many of the older tricks, have knowledge of the older methods and gear but still on the leading edge of technology. They can identify who new items will work, how to modify them to work effectively and what are total gimmicks. These anglers research a great deal and pick apart new gear. I myself think I fall between #1 and #3. I love new technology and have a habit of being an impulse buyer. But I research everything thoroughly before purchasing it, read as many reviews as I can find. Knowledge once again is the winner here, just because a pro advertises it, doesn't make it good.

So I hit the water last night with a new guy I met last week. We took his boat out, we launch and he says " I want to hit some deep water for smallies" I'm like... Awsome! Fine with me. Well we get out there and his electronics are broken, I tell him fishing this deep water blind not being able to identify the deep structure will be tough and suggest we hit the shore line. He says "Nah, I really want to work this deep water for smallies" Turns out I figure out he is primarily a walleye fisherman, which explains it a bit. After 5 hours of working spots he thinks the structure is, I have caught 1 white bass, he has caught nothing. We decide to call it a day. On the upset I did have 1 adrenalin moment, I tossed out my cavitron buzzbait at dusk and something hit it... and hit it HARD. Was definitely not a bass, I'm guessing a large northern or cat, missed the hook up so will never be sure.
  11. mm going to have to give that a shot! So far my favorite mustard is the Jack Daniels brand... stuff is great!
  12. On his new baby boy that was born yesterday, wife and child very healthy. Congrats man! Now get him on the water! ;D
  13. He posted a question a few days ago about what a good set up for top waters was. He got upset that he didn't have 15 responces in the first 5 minutes. He eventually got some very good responces. Not sure if thats why he left or not. :-/
  14. Fishing soft plastics I use a PLINE CX 12# (in clear to mostly clear water) weighted or weightless. Though my favorite is wacky unweighted or weighted T-Rig. For jigs or plastics in moderate to heavy slop I like Berkley fireline braid in 50 - 65#.
  15. Sure they do. Usually I use 3/8 to 3/4 in football to 3/16 or 1/4 in finesse.
  16. Wow that is amazing action. Might have to try that out. I need to get some of the Megastrike ShakE2 but dick's and gander mountain here dont carry them. Been wanting to try them out though.

  22. Hm didn't know that. Will do from now on. Don't use spinning set ups very often but thats definately some good info.
  23. Here is another thread from this forum I dug up, where owner of Powell rods Keith Bryan comments. Some good discussion on this rod. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1148800830/9
  24. Absolutely not. Certain companies make certain rods better than others, for example Kistler makes an amazing frog rod, GLoomis makes great light jig and worm rod but has a not so great frog rod (in my opinion). Just like anything there are always going to be companies that make certain products a certain way, our preferences will never be the same as theirs in every instance. Thus using multiple company rod selection to best meet our individual preferences.
