  1. OK, I plan to be there. It is not scheduled until 05/02/10, so I will have from now until then to get a roommate and carpool for the event. I will pay my money either in march for and let me know the dinner time. If I have to pay my own way full, driving and motel fees, I can only stay two or three days. If I can get a carpool and roommate, I can stay the whole 5 nights and 6 days. I will help out on fuel and drive if necessary on the way up and back. Will there be a fuel charge for riding in a boat, if so we need to work that out as well. I just need to know how much cash I need altogether. I can get dropped off anywhere near St. Louis, Mo for the carpool or you can pick me up at the door, either way is fine. If yuo are further North of St. Louis, Mo you can pick me up at th arch if you want, I just want a carpool or either I will have to rent a car, my Lumina may not take that trip. My number is (314)546-9822. if you want to talk about it. We can meet before then, I can get just about anywhere from Chicago, Indiana, Kansas City or Memphis. Thanks for the invite and like I said I plan to be there with the strenght that God gives me. I will tell you letting us know this early is really a good idea. You have time to save money and make arrangements. Plus get to know other members.
  2. I have a couple of questions. 1. I don't want to pay and fish the bank all day, what about boat rental or will someone let me ride in their boat? 2. What if I get my own accomadations, like stay with family, campout or a cheaper motel room. I don't ahve $85.00 a day? 3. Would someone want to team up and share the costs getting there and back and staying there if we stay on the lake at $85.00 per night that would be $42.50 each per night.
  3. I am with you on this Muddy. I keep all bass over the limit depends where I fish at the highest has been 20". I will never through that back in if I ever catch it. More food for the littler ones so they can get big. More food for me and my family. Bass is a delicacy for me. I was told it helps the lake when you take the older ones out when they are monsters, plus, they will die of old age sooner or later then only the catfishes enjoy them.
  4. I have eaten bass and it is good. As long as it is legal size it is OK to take.
  5. This is my problem, how do I cast further?
  6. Hi, I wanted to take a fishing trip on September 4th 2009 I can rent me a hotel room or stay with one of you. I want to fish some big lakes though, if you don't mind me tagging along and fishing with you, I would really like to get to know one of you and I can travel to visit you in September 2009. I want Lake of the Ozarks, Bull Shoels, Mark Twain or some other big lake in Missouri. If not I am going to start driving around and traveling and getting out on some of the bigger lakes, by myself and if I drown or something happens it is your fault. If anyone is planning on a fishing trip I would like to tag along about that time., I can go bit sooner if need be. In the meantime I am going to try an contact family this weekend in Memphis and see if I can schedule a fishing trip then. I hav not talked to them in years. I just want to get to know some of the fisherman here and you can help teach me something. I will buy the beer. I am tired of not having any fishing buddies. I have not had any real friends since I was a kid other than women. I need to bond with my fellow man. So let me know, if yuo want you can call me at 314-546-9822. We can talk about it and make plans.
  7. OK, here is the deal. I would like to do some bass fishing, but I do not have a boat. I tried walking around the bank or the river and local lakes, but it is very hard on my ankles and knees. Question 1. Can I sit in one place or maybe move to two or three places every half hour or so while sitting and still catch bass? Question 2. I have no luck using a spinner bait, now I saw a guy use a plastic worm and he caught a huge bass. He moved all over the lake walking he bank, much more than I can. Can I just forgo the spinner baits, I don't like them when fishing from the bank or anywhere for that matter. Question 3. The only place I know, I can go fishing at, that rents boats is Busch Wildlife CA. No other lake that I know of rents boats. Do you know of any in the St. Louis Area? Also, I don't think I know what I am doing. Would any of you mind if I came fishing with you, I will drive to you and watched you catch bass, then I can learn how to retrive or get the lure to look real? I will buy a 6 pack or 12 pack of beer for the lesson? I don't have the money for a guide they charge like $80-$250. I just want to learn how to work the plastic worm. I will drive to you and drive you to the lake or if you have a boat I can ride with you to the lake. Like I said will buy the beer no more than a 12 pack. Or if you charge tell me waht your fee would be and we can go from there. Question 4. Where can I find information about bass fishing from the bank for lazy people? I am heavy set and somewhat lazy, but my ankles and knees hurt badly from walking on the bank, I do fine sitting there. I have arthritis in my ankles and knees, doctor told me. Question 5. What is the best rig for the worm when you can only cast about 8-10 yards, where there are a lot of weeds and grass in the lake. Everytine I cast that spinner, I came back with a bunch of matted grass and weeds. I have read what to look for in fishing a lake so I have that down. Bass like structure, but I can not cast far enough to clear those weeds. I will upgrade to a 6# test line, I have a 9ft pole. I am getting some texas rigging hooks and weights. If none of this works I guess I will be stuck catching catfish, crappie and bluegill. I really wanted to try for the bass. I am going to give it all I got in two weeks I am buying ab out $50 worth of Lures and extra's going to buesch wildlife ca and give ti all I got, if I dont catch any bass at that point, I am through with bass fishing and going to the catfish, crappie and bluegill. With a limit of 10 bluegill, I just don't have much they are so small. Catfish are only 12" long or so, whish I could get some about 18" or more. If I fished crappie for a living I would starve yet to get my limit on those, just bluegill and catfish. Well any advice or help appreciated and like I said I can compensate you for it, if need be.
  8. Wow, thank you guys for all the great replies. I have started reading the articles and there is a wealth of information there. Thank you for letting me know they are there. I already know, I want to try the Texas and Carolina rig. I can't wait to start getting after the bass. I will start this Saturday, I don't have everything, but I have enough to get started. I will be fishing from the bank so I hope I can still use the Texas and Carolina rigs? Is it hard to catch bass from the bank? I guess, I will find the answer as I keep reading. Thanks again folks, it is really appreciated.
  9. I have a question, I hope this is the right place to ask. I am new to bass, never caught a bass except by accident and they were all about 5-6" in length, none keepers. I want to catch some keepers or at least some big ones. Ok here are the questions: 1. Should I get a 3" or 5" worm? I am using Berkley Alive Gulp for all lures 2. What size hook for 3" worm? 3. What size hook for 5" worm? I am after Largemouth, that is the fish that is in the St. Louis, MO area I believe. I was also planning on getting the 2 1/2" minnows, 3" shrimp and the 5 3/4" slim shaky worm. Do you think this would be good choices? I plan to go to Busch Wildlife and practice with the catch and release bass first before going to the river and lakes for keepers. I have never fished or rather caught anything on artificial lures, but I here Berkley is the best. I appreciate your replies.
  10. Hi, I appreciate the offer. If you have it for awhile, I would be glad to get it. I am short on cash now, I will make payments until I have enough cash and then contact you. Thanks, I know I would love your setup.
  11. Hi guys I Am looking for an inflatable fishing boat that I can use to fish the St. Louis Area's. I figure I would go places like Horshoe Lake, Creve Coeur Lake, Spanish Pond and Blue Lake all in Spanish Lake, MO Area, Bull Shoals, Mark Twain, Lake of the Ozarks and Various lakes around St. Louis. A friend of mines laughed at me because I wanted to get an inflatable boat, he says it will sink. Do any of you use inflatable boats and if so how do you like them? What are your recommendations for an inflatable boat? I just want something I can use for 1-2 people to catch those fish hanging in the 35-45 Ft deep waters. It is summer and fishing from the bank sucks, unless you want cat fish. If you have a boat and would like a fishing buddy please let me know, I would love to hang with you.
  12. Do you have a boat? I don't have one but would like a fishing buddy as well. I am new to it, but I enjoy, more than my wife does.
  13. Nice Crappie. I have never caught one that big. I have caught several but they were 6-8". Nice Catch.
  14. I thought I read somewhere that it was 10 years, I could be wrong. But Bluegill is more like 4 years. Check the net and see. :-X
  15. Bass-Brat has the right answer as far as I am concerned. It is when it is on the bank or in the boat, bucket or live well. If you are catching and releasing then you do not have to worry about it, you just keep track how you want to or if in a tournament how they say to keep track follow the tournament rules. For me it is not caught unless I have it in the fridge or skillet
  16. Everyone gave you goiod tips, I would go with the Nightcrawlers, I have had good success with those. You can only harvest 10 Brim where I live, St. Louis, Mo. So if you want the big ones, you might want to try something different than nightcrawlers, I seem to get the small ones with those. I bet some flies, or artificial insects on a spinner like the other guy suggested would get you the bigger brim, unless they are spawning, I think the bigger brim or out in the water near structure as well. Good Luck.
  17. The biggest thing I can tell is the size. Maybe the fish can tell the difference in taste
  18. I live in St. Louis County. Near 270 & W. Florissant. I am looking for a fishing buddy. Does not have to have a boat, but it is a plus. I am a light drinker; I go to church-Christian. I am an avid fisher, been out of fishing for awhile looking to start back now. I have 2- 8 pound poles and 1 feather light glass pole, I love open cast and spin rod. Let me know if you would like a fishing buddy, I am not prejudice and race is not important, just be safe and like to fish. We can talk a lot or I can be quite if you like. So far I go to Busch Wildlife, and local lakes around St. Louis would like to try some of the bigger lakes and can help with fuel and I have a car, for weekends only or either fishing that ends by 6pm. Must be in St. Louis by 7:30pm daily Mon-Fri to pick up my wife. If I ride with you can help on fuel and extend my fishing day.
