  1. I have been using the magna super lock hooks for years now without a problem. I keep several rust inhibitors in all my boxes. I have noticed they rust a little quicker than most, but I also view hooks as a disposable item. I buy them when they are in sale, like buy 2 get 1 free. I think it comes out to be about $11 for 60 or so hooks. I have never had a hook break, only bend if I get a bad snag.
  2. I have owned many "high end" Shimano reel, (though not the C14)and I've gotta say my old silver Patriarch can outperform them all. It was just as smooth as my Curado E, AND it would out cast it. For me, a dual braking system just seems to work better.
  3. I prefer my johnny morris reels over my pro qualifiers. I find them to be a little smoother and cast better. I have owned many different reels and find that I like my bass pro shop reels over most. I know its almost blasphemous to say it here, but I think they outperform any shimano reel I've owned. (That includes 6 curados, 2 citicas, and 2 chronarch 50mgs)
  4. I'm a fan of the 3701. Its a thinner box, which means I can fit more in my tackle bags.
  5. It might take a while. As I said, the solution was sitting in the container for about a week. I like Perfect Solution, and find it better than Simple Green, however, I never had Simple Green eat away at this same plastic container.
  6. When I soak my bearings, I switch the solution a few times. After the bearings get their last soak, I remove the bearings and leave the solution in the container to serve as a "first rinse" for the next set of bearings. So, to answer the questions in full, nothing but the Perfect Solution was in the container at the time. The container was a clear plastic shower gel container. I have two of these containers and both have been used with other cleaners and never had a problem. I am not trying to start a huge debate or say don't use Perfect Solution. Actually, quiet the opposite. I have found Perfect Solution to be superior to Simple Green. I am very happy with it, but I was kind of surprised to see the contained damaged like that.
  7. DVT, I originally used the container for Simple Green. To prevent any potential for cross contamination, I washed the container out thoroughly. Ironically, the Simple Green would sit in the container for weeks at a time without any damage. I have heard that some chemicals can eat through plastic (or deform it) while not causing any damage to other plastics. It does depend on the plastic. As a side note, Quantum reels use plastic cages inside their bearings rather than stainless steel, so Perfect Solution may not be a perfect solution for those bearings. Maybe someone who has used Perfect Solution on Quantum reels will chime in.
  8. So at the suggestions from the forum members here, I have started using Perfect Solution to clean my bearings. It does a great job and I have no complaints so far. I do, however, have a warning. I left some Perfect Solution in a plastic container last week and when I came back today the container was empty. The container had a hole in the bottom. The Perfect Solution appears to have eaten away at the plastic. So, while Perfect Solution is great for cleaning bearings, it may not be wise to use it on plastic.
  9. I remember hearing him say that, and I though he meant that he would use the same series of rods and reels. So, rather than having 7 rods by 7 different companies, he used 1 series of rods. For example, if he used a St. Croix Avid, he would only use the Avid series for cranks, jerkbaits, topwaters, spinberbaits and texas rigs. Then, with reels he would use the same series of reels, just in different gear ratios. He said it takes time to adjust to different brands of rod and reels and it was a waste of time. I took it more as him saying people use 12 rods by 12 different rod manufacturers, instead of finding one band or series we liked and sticking with it.
  10. Rooster, just curious, how did you clean your bearings?
  11. The football jig that I have been using lately is the bass patrol football jig. I like the one with round rubber and silicone. At $2.00 a jig, you can't go wrong.
  12. Muddy water: green pumpkin Stained water: green pumpkin Dirty water: green pumpkin Clear water:green pumpkin Gin clear: green pumpkin Any other kind of water: green pumpkin
  13. I have used a wide variety of BPS Reels. I have to agree, the Johnny Morris Carbonlite is a very grindy reel. I returned 2 of them for this very reason. I just felt it did not carry the durability. I have a few signature series feels as well. I feel that they are a better reel, but not by much. For the price of a signature series reel, you can get 3 pro qualifiers. (Well, almost 3)
  14. I believe those bass patrol jigs are a smaller profile type jig than many of the other football jigs; except maybe a finesse football jig. Since it is not as bulky, I tend to stick with smaller trailer. I use a baby rage craw, but I trim it after the second rib from the top. I also use the baby paca chunks. Again, I treat that particular jig almost as a fitness jig. Then again, California has a reputation for big bass.
  15. I personally think its too big. However, those Bass Patrol jigs are my go to jigs. They seem to be the right size and profile for the areas I fish.
  16. The Berkley Beast was one of my favorite baits ever. I had about 8 bags when they discontinued them. I wish I had picked up a bunch of them. Very underrated.
  17. When I am using 20 pound braid or less, I find that I have to add additional wraps. It appears like he braid is cutting through the leader material. When using 10 or 15 pound braid, I tend to make 7-10 turns down, then 10 turns up.
  18. I fish out of a belly boat all the time. I have mind rigged up so I can bring 3 rod. My tube also has a mesh netting in the back that I put an oversized 3700 waterproof box in. Plus, I have 4 large pockets (2 on each side) to store stuff in. Needless to say I have more than enough room to pack stuff. Not to mention 1 pocket on my waders and 2 pockets on my PDF.
  19. Yeah, I have been using baby rage craws and paca chunks this year with great success. I kinda see no reason to change.
  20. One time I had a bullfrog engulf the 9 inch lizard I was throwing. The entire lizard and 5/0 hook was in its mouth...
  21. I have a few of them as well. 7 foot med-heavy an a 7 foot heavy. They are stiffer than most brands, but handle well. I have a problem with the reel seats on both my Veritas. What I usually do is just tighten the reel down, then try to move the reel up and down. If the reel moves, it means I can tighten the screw down some more. It's usually a one time thing, and the reel does not move once I re-tighten it that second time.
  22. I have a Lews, a Patriarch and a Patriarch XT. All 3 reels are great. I have no complaints about any of them. I do like the looks of the Lews a litle more, but I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The all fish the same in my opinion.
  23. Oh and the smallies hate them too. Especially the green pumpkin hawgs. And so do the toothy critters. And catfish.
  24. This bait does not produce fish. Trust me. Don't waste you money on them. (especially the green pumpkin) Those of you who are ruining my secret lure can stop any time now. I have enough trouble finding these as it is. (All said with a slight touch of sarcasm. These baits are amazing...I mean, they stink)
  25. The funny thing is, I bought a Strike King Tour Grade buzzbait. If you read Cabela's website it says it's designed to track perfectly straight. I guess they meant straight to one side, lol.
