RODSS????
I like st croix premiers...about $100. Also the BPS Extreme poles are pretty good too. Thinking of a St Croix Mojo rod next, or a carrot stick (they're so darn ugly).

Which engine? Mercury Optimax or Evinrude E-tech?
Any motor is only as good as the guy who fixes it when it's down. And they both will go down. Good service is the key...ask locals where the bought there motors/boats and get an honest answer on their service form that dealer.

lake henry, pa
This has never been knonw as a good bass lake...or decent. It is usually mentioned with the word pickerel. I did win a tourney there though, back in the late 80's. I had a limit which blew everyones mind as that had never happened before, and we never went back again. But for what it is worth, I threw a white spinnerbait. All the fish came off the weedy flat in the middle of the back side of the lake. I think it was refered to as the ski area. It was 20 years ago and I was only there once.

Water temps question
The post with the tidbit about water density and temperature is helpful. To put it in a more general term is this...in the warm months the warmer less dense water "floats" on top of cooler water. But a point, as the top layer of water cools (in the fall) it becomes colder (denser) than the bottom water. Thus starting the "turn over effect" fishermen dread and complain about. The top water which is now cooler sinks and the bottom water which is warmer rises. Now as the new top layer freezes the ice actually insulates the water below it, keeping it from freezing. So, a lake of decent depth never freezes solid. The water temperature would actually rise as you got deeper (moving farther from the ice that is), since it is being insulated. The temperature at a certain depth should be around 40 degrees and stay that temperature to the bottom. This depth would depend on many things (air temp, elevation). We really take for granted what a unique compound water is. It is the only substance that the solid state is less dense than the liquid (which is why ice floats otherwise lakes and oceans would freeze solid). It takes more calories of energy to change the temperature of water than any other substance, which makes it a most stable environment to live in. If it weren't for these properties life would not exist on Earth...unless you believe in Creationism and not Evolution,

shoreline fishing with cranks
I am a firm believer in Bandits either Foot loose, 100 or 200, depending on your depth. There are a few craw patterns I prefer and the chartruse splatterback are good. Started using some of the Sexy Shad Strike Kings...so far so good.

Hook for wacky?
I recently switched to Mosquito hooks (by Owner or Gamagastu don't remember the brand just that they are called mosquito). I usually rig with a 1 or 1/0...but i fish smaller baits like Jersey Rig worms or 4 inch Senkos. I really am having good luck with these hooks.

Lake Management
It sounds like an over population problem. But like the above poster said without doing a good population dynamics study it is all just a guess. There could be water quality issues at hand. Generally, 14 inches is big for an over populated lake. If you told me the lake had under 12" it would sound more like it. Perch and blue gill are big forage for a 14" bass (the canabilization rate for perch and blue gill is high) so young offspring from these spp are gobled up by there own parents or aunts or uncles (LOL). Shiners or shad type fish are more size appropriate for this size bass. By the way I hold a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries biology. If it holds any weight.

Tips for Lake Onieda
We have a small club tourney there 9/12-13. One year, a few years ago, we hit it good. But since, our weigh-ins have been below the lake's standards. Can anyone give me some good advice...not necessarily looking for your "hot spot". Just some good bait choices and general patterns. Thanks in advance...I'll be happy to share any info with lakes in NEPA if you need.

2 stroke oil question
First off get rid of the fuel, or add enough gas to make the mix right. A lot of guys (me and my father included) are having very good luck with Sea Foam additive. I really clean out the carbs and motor good. You may need to run a whole tank through to get 100% results. You WILLneed to clean the plugs during this time. Use carb/choke cleaner. This should help clean the sludgy gunk that may be causing you a problem. You can buy it at Walmart. Good Luck!

any one been fishing on the pack
The problem with the Pack is the boat traffic. It is down right dangerous...esp in a kayak or similar craft. It can also get pretty rough too. I'm not sure where you are launching from. It get's tough in the summer fishing wise. Walts Cove, Shumans Point, and the The Capri cove are all goood starting points.
