  1. I 'll speak for my area. I have a daughter in private and a son in public. As far as education and teacher involvement and over all interest in teaching kids the private is better. But way more work, hours more each nite. My daughter is exexptionaly bright and the challenges and advanced subjuect she gets there keep her interested. Also graduates almost alwyas get college scholarships...which the school helps you get and advacates for you to the universities. My son is ver smart too...but getting him to study is like pulling teeth. He gets second or first honors ever time...but he gets mad and upset when there is more than an hours homework. He is also a soccer guru. He plays on an elite level team and honestly has a shot at some college recruitment. We encourage him to keep his grades where they are and practice his soccer skills and exercises when he is not studying. By the way here is my son's schedule this week for soccer...Sunday training 3-6, Tues training 730-9, Thurs nite playoff touney for his indoor league (3 games), Friday nite first round of the NCS State Cup Tourney in Phila, leave Phila for Baltimore for a 2 day tourney of 2 games each day. Where would you have time to study
  2. Trust me I know where this comes from. God allows things to happen sometimes to make us a better person. This world is under the curse of sin and sometimes things just happen. So this in no way shakes my faith, rather strengthens it.[/quote] I love that. I'll be honest my luck has been crap lately. Lost my job, loosing my home (which I built from start to end with my own hands), credit card companies sticking it to us. UPDATE>>>Got a new job making more than before, with insurances and benefits. Got approved more a mortgage modification (cutting $600 a month off that), and the card companies are willing to work with me cause I have a job now. Downside...have a trip planned for Falcon in Late January...hope I get vacation time for it. My point is, I'm living proof things get better.
  3. IMO the Premier is a better rod. Another decent for that price is a BPS Extreme.
  4. KVD, or Strike King Premier and BPS Lazer Eye Pro. Colors are chartruse and white...and sexy shad. 3/8 oz with one willow and one colorado
  5. I guess all in all watermellon based colors.
  6. Also if you want to do some snook or redfish fishing this would be a great time. Call Paul Hobbie (Hobby) in FT Meyers...he maybe booked but it is worth a shot. Best guide down there. You'll have to google or search for his phone number though. Found it Paul Hobby 239-433-1007. He has a website too. I googled his name.
  7. Is Marco near Ft meyers? If so there used to be a place called Lakes Park (or something). It was city/county run small lake/ park/picnic thing). You used to be able to rent boats too. Very clear water...but caught some nice fish. This was 15 years ago or so. I used to vacation on Sanibel Is.
  8. Around 6' medium action with 6-10 lb line. I've gone up to 14 lb on a spinning reel...but do not recommend it for more than a special occasion (when we had a tourney on a weedy lake with bigger fish I's put on the 14 for the weekend, but switch a soon as we were done). I like the 2500 size reels...usually the next to smallest.
  9. I like Bandits...but I have a few Strike Kings that I am starting to like. As as far as colors...you gotta have a Sexy Shad (or whatever it is called by another brand). I'd say a chartruse splatterback in bandit...for muddy water. Any shad patterns seem good.
  10. Fishing with shelley and courtney. Anyone remember that show Fish On? With the bikini clad models?
  11. In PA some lakes stocked with trout are closed all together during the time stocking starts and the forsdt day of trout season begins. Once that season opens you can fish for bass C-N-R only. Some wardens are that fussy, you can't take pictures or anything. I've heard rumours that fish wardens want people not remove the fish from the water when unhooking it. In NY you can't even target bass before the seaon opens...same in Ontario. Yes the reason is to protect the bass during the spawning season.
  12. There is another thread on here about floro-knots. What ever you feel you tie the best is what you should use. I use a palomar on smaller things. Things such as cranks, spinnerbaits, topwaters i use a cinch knot. Only because I have a hard time getting the bigger baits through the loop with getting snagged. Lubricate your line with spit or your "fish formula smelly stuff". Heat from the knot tying friciton weakens floro (and mono).
  13. lubricate it Very important for any knot. There is a tremendous amount of friciton and heat created when tying knots.
  14. I remember back in the early 80's a song called, "Chuckin and Windin". It goes roughly...."Chuckin and windin, plannin on findin, capital B-a-double s; big ole bass."
  15. I saw her interview with Barbra Walters a while back. I must say my wife and I were kinda impressed with her. She was very respectful to Barbra, and at one point actually walked with her arm in arm so she wouldn't fall. She said she is bisexual but has never been in love with a woman. She is pretty but I dislike her nose.
  16. Until you adjust your thinking about the size of fish in PA, you will continue to catch the little ones you talk about. So, you're saying the bigger the bait the bigger the bass? I better go get me some 10" worms and a few Okeechobee spinnerbaits too. That way I can catch those 7lb PA bass. In the future if you have an issue with a comment some one has, phrase your reply without cutting into the posters fishing thoughts. I have no problem catching 2lb+ fish on 1/8oz jigs and a #11 pork frog. The comment was based for reference on JIG SIZE NOT FISH SIZE.
  17. It also keeps from hitting the roof of the fishes mouth and deflecting the hookset.
  18. Well, you guys got the bait monkey on me now. I'll have to go out and get me a few packs....d**n!
  19. Roland Martin was asked what do you do if you caught a fish or two (or more) early and didn't have a bite for hours. He said go back to what got you there. Meaning go back to the bait and patten that worked that morning. I expand this with your situation. Under these condtions, what has worked for me in the past. And that's what I do. Keep in mind the calander in the spring and fall is a lousey way to judge condtions. The super cold long term winter in TX is a great example.
  20. one more thing...a old Denny Brauer tip (the king of jig-n-pig flipping) trim the weed guard with scissors even with the hook. the weed guard should not stick up higher thatn the hook.
  21. This is where i disagree with most everyone on here. most of the fisherman around here tend to agree with me. for wacky rigging a 3" senko or similar i use a size 1 hook. a 1/0 for anything bigger. you dont need a big hook for wacky rigging. plus the smaller the hook the slower the fall of the bait. the sweep style hook set is very popular for this style. me i just take up the slack and SNAP. not too over powering mind you just a good snap.
  22. Fish the branch from williamsport...north i think. It is way less muddy. Crawfish colored cranks and tubes. If you launch at the sewer plant ramp head to the right (up river) unitl you see some power lines over head. Fish from the island above those lines to just past them. Target the leftside 50% of the river.
  23. I disagree with the there now need for pork. I feel at temps below 55 or 60 degrees pork is better. Pork is more boyant therefor falls slower. Make sure your pork size and jig size jive. For example on jigs around a 1/8-5/16 use a #11 pork frog. Anything larger use the #1 (I think). I never go over a 1/4 hear in the NE (the bass are smaller) so I'm not sure of the larger pork frog.
  24. All of the clubs I have been in "embrace" non boaters. As a rider, I have angler of the year 3 times. And not toot my own horn...I can fish rings around lots boaters. Our club now is a team tourney format. I don't care how good you think you are you can always learn something from anyone. The first club I was ever in back in the late 80's was very big and well established. They got a handful of wanna be pros in it. They twisted the rules, schedule, and one actually said to a rider, "You're a rider your opinion don't count." That club has 6 members now...all the wanna-bes and that's it. Any one that tells me that I'm not a good fisherman, cause I can't afford a boat, isn't worth me fishing with anyway. Call me kooky, but giving my family a nice home, and letting my kids do the activities they want, and taking nice vacations together is more imortant.
  25. You seem to be on par with your set up. You may need to lengthen your leader a bit. The bait is fairly important. I do not like Senko type baits for c-rigging. These baits sink too fast and got caught in the bottom junk. Lizards, grubs, tubes, and regular plastic worms seem to work the best for me.
