  1. Hey Guys, We are heading to Falcon this winter. We know the baits/colors we need to take. But we are unsure what size hooks and weights to throw with those big worms, senko, brush hogs, etc. For lets say a 9 or 10 inch worm? 7 inch senko type bait? And for a (magnum) brush hog/ creature type lure. And what about spinnerbait size for down there? What about a Jig-n-Pig size? Thanks in Advance.
  2. Basically, if I have (had) no map, I look for areas of the lake that remind me of another lake that I fish. Taking into account time of year and water conditions. Also look for types of structure you feel good about fishing, docks, points, blow downs, weeds whatever.
  3. I use Vicious. Now keep in mind this is my first and only FC. I have never had breaking issues, knot issues, or casting issues. The usage seems very good. It does seem thicker than some others though. I'm using 12#. Take it for what it is worth,
  4. I use unpainted. But, if I wanted colored...I just raid my teenage daughters nail polish bag!
  5. I've been using a cinch/clinch knot with my FC, without any troubles. Be sure to lube the line with some spit before tightening it up.
  6. we use #3's here in PA, NY, and other lakes we fish.
  7. Reminds me of the guy who left the bar blitzed. Drove to the police station to get a breathalizer to see if he was too drunk to drive home. By the way ...he failed!
  8. I once saw Rick Clunn tie a knot specifically for a crankbait. The body of the knot was like 2" up the line from the crankbait...the bait "hung by a loop". He said it was so the bait had more movement.
  9. come across "nudists" out on the lake? A few years back on a lake in Canada...the same boat was anchored every year in the same spot. There was an older couple out sunbathing, eating, BBQing whatever...naked! Now I have also come across "party girls" topless on boats and docks, that sit up to say ask how fishing is or wave as they pass by too. More so to be flirty and make their party frieds laugh. Now the partygirls I understand (and apprecieate ). They are out boozing it up and acting like young fun kids. and AGE ASIDEdoes anyone else feel it is wrong to be completely nude out in the open on a public lake? I would hope the partygirls would cover up or stay hidden when a boat comes near with kids on it. But the nudists are "hanging out" on the topside of their boat, as if they were clothed. In very easy/open sight of anyone. Then again...you those darn Canadians, LOL. Anyone elses take.
  10. I use the "red pack" suffix. 8lb. I have used for amny years. Had one bad spool once...but it could have been an old one I had sitting around and tried to use it up. Low stretch and good knot strength and good durablility. Coils a bit until it gets a wet maybe a a dozen cast or so.
  11. I have a buddy who has a long pair of wire cutters. H cuts the HOOK off at the where the hook actually enters the fish. This leaves only the point of the hook left in the fish. We all feel this is the best because in give an unobstucted ath for eating and breathing.
  12. I agree wind and current do matter. Bass will position themselves on the point to be out of the current to "rest", in the current to feed. Same goes for the wind. I like to fish shallower on point in the early morning and deeper once the sun is up good.
  13. #3 Blue Fox Vibrax spinner....gold or firetiger colors
  14. As a fomer fish farmer which I spend at good many years pond farming catfish, I know a bit about this stuff. First off it is NOT an algae but a bacteria with some chlorophyll in it. It thrives in hot weather in calm stagnent water with lots of nitrogen. During the day it produces O2 at very high rates. In some cases of large infestations (as in old catfish ponds), to the point of very high supersaturation levels. But, at night (and this is the big thing here), since it is a bacteria...it consumes O2 and makes CO2. To the point of almost anerorobic (no O2 present) condiontions occur). This will cycle to until it uses up all the nutirents (nitrogen or phosphorus) in the water. The bloom the crashes, dies, and in some cases releases a toxic chemical that will kill every living thing (I mean fish, frogs, crawfish, the works). This chemical is only present for a very short time, which makes it almost impossible to detect afterwards. As far as your question there are some bacteria the give off toxins while they live. And they will need to run there life course. Here in Eastern PA we have been having lakes closed due to bacteria blooms...the same few lakes each summer. The DCNR won't tell you it is fecal bacteria from the excessive goose crap in the water from the out of control goose populations. Maybe this is the case for you?
  15. I have been fishing tourney's for 25+ years, and always as a rider. I have rode i n about every major brand of boat there is/was. Bass Cat has always impressed me in ride, construction and funtion. The only complaint a good friend of mine had was the all digital dash board. It is quite expensive to fix if it goes down. Good Luck
  16. Just hit the shoals. Fish them shallow at day break...moving to the weedlines (dark water) when the sun comes up. I tend to do better on windy days than calm ones...the smallies tends to stay up on top of the shoals in the wind. White spinnerbaits. watermellon senkos (imagine that...lol).

I have stated this a few times on here. The key to tube fishing is slow. The fella that taught me said that you should be able to eat your sandwhich in the time it takes to make one cast. Not really but you get the idea. And when you do move it...it's more than a slither across the bottom than a hop. We use a custom made jig head for our tubes...it's a specially designed 1/16oz head. I prefer a 1/16 over an 1/8 because of the more erratic fall on the lighter head...it kinda swoops and darts as it falls, rather than staight down.
  18. Too heavy for a spinning reel...especially FC.
  19. 200 sereies Abndit And the Strike King crankbaits (know it by sight not by name). Sexy Shad or similar. Chartruse with blue splatterback.
  20. I agree, I'm not sure one brand is any better (although I tend to like the original Bobby Garland Gitzit) (probably for nostalgia sake). I like watermellon pepper or similar...color #200 in the gitzit. I use a custom poured 1/16 oz jig head, this seems to help with finicky bites. The key to a tube is...the slower you move it the better...it's a lazy bait. They guy who taught me told me, "You should be able to a sandwich in the time it takes to complete one cast." Not literally, but you get the idea.
  21. The word is TANIC. It generally is found in lakes in our area with large amounts of pine trees. If I understand right it is caused by tanic acid from the decay of pine products in the water. Try red shad or smoke with blue and gold flake...seems to work for me on lakes with that color.
  22. I think that is fine for carolia rigging (14+ feet). As far as the weight I like 3/4 oz brass wgt. With a 16"-24" leader.
  23. Find out exactly what is supplied. Ask if you need/may bring your own tackle otherwise. As far as the live bait/artifical thing this is what I would do. Tell the guide you respect his opinion that live bait is the better way to go. But, you would like to try artificials for a 2 or 3 hours. Ulitmately he works for you, he should do what you would prefer. But, on the same note you don't want to spend $400 and not catch anything when all you need to do is throw some live shiners around.
  24. I have had luck fishing floating docks. They are not as good as perm. docks. If the only docks on the lake are floating...I'd say fine. But if the docks are mixed perm. and floating...I think the fish prefer the perm docks. I find fish tend to be a little deeper around floating docks. I agree with the senko comment, but don't rule out tubes, texas rigged worms (or other plastics), and we have good luck using jigging spoons casted out, counted down, and jerked back.
