  1. More to think about. At temps below 60 use a pig trailer, plastic over 60. The pork has a slower fall. As far as the rigging...i never use a plastic chunk...only pork (#11) rigged through the "hook hole". When i use plastic it is a crawfish type threaded up the shank.
  2. I tend to feel water temps from 60 on up. Below 60 i like a jerk bait better.
  3. Actually I've had scapple a few times this wek, LOL. The only thing I look forward to in the winter...good homemade scrapple!
  4. 3/4 is what I like. 1/2 does not seem to stay down good enough. I would think a 1oz would be ok if your going esp deep.
  5. Tilapia is a forage in Falcon? Not debating..just did not know that. There are not many lakes in the US that can support their temp. requirements. I'll start looking for some "tilapia looking" baits for our trip.
  6. Never thought about that...good point, for any store that has those combos like that.
  7. Strike King Premier and Strike King KVD. I also like Lazer Eye Premier, very nice for under $4.
  8. BPS GS (Graphite Series) rod. Not a bad at all for around $30.
  9. I used to fish J-n-P quite a bit. I think you'll find a jumbo frog too big for PA. Also it makes an 1/8 oz jig fall too slow. Stick with the the size 11 or a 101. As far as sizes here in PA try 1/8 or 3/16 oz jigs. I liked black/blue in the spring and brown/orange in the fall. Visulize a crawfish on the bottom as far as working it...changeing your speed according to fish activity. I prefered jigs with rattles too and a little crawfish fish actractant.
  10. 1 or 1/0 mosquito hooks. Size depends on the size of the bait. I used to use 1 staight shank gammy worm hooks.
  11. JimmyMo, There is some paperwork that should be worked on together the first time. Tournament apps, state reports are easy onjce you fill one out. The trick is knowing what office to send your paperwork to. I have been and am the TD for our club. Shoot me PM if you need some help.
  12. good rod for the money is the BPS Extreme...esp when they are on sale for $59!
  13. 4" hologram Senko SK sexy shad crankbait SK KVD spinnerbait char/white Bandit brown/orange crawfish crank watermellon jersey rig worm
  14. We fish for smaller bass here. So the biggest I fish is a 2/0. That being said I prefer a straight shank Gammy for Texas rigging a worm. Size 1 for 4".....size 1/0 for 6". For 4" Senkos I go with a Gammy EWG in the 1/0. The senko are fatter and I feel i get a better hook up rate with the EWG.
  15. I have a 6-6 MH casting rod (paired with a PQ reel) and love it.
  16. I use a palomar for any single hook type of thing (texas rig, jig head, jig) and an improved clinch (cinch) knot for any big baits. I have no problems with either...make sure you lubricate the line with some spit before you tighten any knot up!
  17. Otters are a protected species. in most areas. With my experience, at a fish farm I worked at; I needed to get the "Federal Trapper" from the area to harvest it. The otters were so smart he gave up. I had a prof. in college that did otter reintroductions. So I called him to get it out. He said there are so many otters that need to be relocated any more his yearly budget was used up in 4 months. He recommended that i shoot it with a BB gun in the rear end (pump the bb gun once or twice), after about 3 times the otter will move from being pestered. I had no BB gun but threw rocks at it a few times...and sure enough it left after about 2 days.
  18. Go to BPS and check out every level of their house brand stuff. There are outfits to fit any budget, you can pick what you feel is your best deal.
  19. First off, as many of these fellas have said...practice. My first BC was a x-mas present. All winter i practiced outside in the snow and cold. Just stick with mono as your line. It is the only line that can fit the bill for every situation. 10lb is the lowest I'd go with. I like 2 lines. The first is the rd package of Suffix. The other is BPS Excel line, it's inexpensive and doesn't break easy. It does stretch...but not to a point that I have found any disadvantages. There are some keys to setting up your BC. The most important is setting the breaking. I tell people this...your bait should fall as quickly as possible to the point that when it hits the ground no line backlashes (the spool stops). Then turn the breaking up 1 more turn. This is a good jumping off point to start. Good Luck.

I use it on a shaky head type jig head, so it "stands up". Baby paca with an 1/8oz that is. Pumpkin spice color or alabama craw.
  21. I use a 1\0 or 2\0 hook and tear them up. It's just the nature of a Senko I guess.
  22. I disagree with the whole, "It's a marketing name, KVD thing." This color has out fished most if not all of the other cranks this year in our club. We had one 2 day tourney, that if you did not have a sexy shad crank or spinnerbait on you might as well slept in and went for breakfast. And I mean boats fishing the same shoals and weedlines...it made a difference. I heard once that is very close replica of a Threadfin or Gizzard shad (I think). Any how it has to do with the chartruse "stripe" and the natural shading to it (dark top and light bottom). Whatever...it is no BS IMO. And I'm the last one to buy something based on what some pro says works.
  23. Could need a good cleaning, send it to a reel repair shop if it's a special one. Some reels aren't worth getting repaired cost wise. But, a cleaning costs around $8. I myself don't mess with cleaning them. One time I took a reel apart and BOING springs and gears went everywhere. LOL
  24. Jersey Rig Worms Blue Fox Vibrax Spinner #3 size
  25. It varies from yr to yr. I can tell you The Pak, Harvey's, Lake Carey, The Susqehana, Beltzville, Lake Oneida, and some others.
