braided, fused, or mono?
thanks for the info.. im really 50-50 between braided and mono.. one minute i want braid one minute i want mono.. lol.. too indecive.. i think the only downfall to braid ive been hearing about would be that it isnt very good for shock resistance wheres the mono has a bit of stretch to help with that.. id hate to reef on it and have the line or worse, my rod snap because theres no give there..

weakest link or knot?
so i am hearing alot about the palomar knot being the best knot to use.. myself ive always used the ol fishermans knot (improved clinch) and never really had any problems.. is there really that big of difference between knots? i believe with rigging (ropes or cables) when the rope or whatever you are using it bent (such as around the eye of a hook) it loses up to 50% of its strength.. im assuming thats the same with mono fishing line, right?

braided, fused, or mono?
so lets say i get a 300yd spool of the new fireline or tracer braid an only use 150yds on my reel.. can i cut it without it freying? or will i have to melt the tip like you with with a rope or something? the reason i would be getting braided would be because of its strength and low diameter so i dont want to use a mono or flouro leader. is it relitively low vis to the fish? and on the tracer braid would it help to use the low vis part at the lure end rather than the high vis? as you can tell ive never used braided line and yes my name on here is kingfisher... but like buying a dirtbike for example i wanted to pick one i could grow into rather than grow out of and yes will continuing help from all of you i hope to one day grow into the name kingfisher... thanks again.

what colours?
thanks for the information guys... as for my soft plastics ive got a few different colours ranging from orange to green to black and one thats like a pearl colour.. and a few others.. i must be using them wrong because i dont have any luck really with soft plastics.. my skitterpops and some other floating crank.. i actually have no idea what it is.. red head and yellow body and has a rattle in it.. works pretty good.

shakespeare intrepid titanium??
ya it very well could be... i havnt seen it at walmart or canadian tire or anything but the shop i got it from was called mountain man outdoor.. apparently from what i have read its a pretty tough, sensitive rod.. (im assuming for its price bracket) im 24 now and ive only actually owned two spinning rods in my whole life so im sure it will work just fine for me.. (id maybe notice a difference if my only two rods were like a g.loomis or something) ive only ever had trolling rods and fly fishing rods..

braided, fused, or mono?
so a birdsnest with braided can be saved? would a braidedn line being more limp and less memory possibly mean that a birsdsnest wouldnt be as bas with braided?? due do less of a recoil kind of effect?

what colours?
is there actually a rule of thumb as far as what colours to use and when? ex. i was once told on bright day use dark colours and dark days use light colours??? i was also told for spinnerbaits use white on hot sunny days and that the black and red skirts were good for the fall??? anyone have any "theories" or any kind of "rule of thumb" for this??

braided, fused, or mono?
sounds good, thank you. as of right now i dont have anything weedless unless i do a texas rig or something.. but no weedless lures. so far ive just been working the edges of cover/docks.. so i will probably use the mono for now then.. and also by the time i decide to get all the good weedless lures, fish the heavy cover, and buy braided line ill hopefully have my birdnesting under control ahahah id rather lose a spool full of mono than a more expensive braid. thanks again.

braided, fused, or mono?
i think im going to use my medium action spinning rod for jigs/ worms.. im going to use this m/h baitcasting setup for topwater, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, as well as a 4" and 5" swimbaits.. and ya im going to try to find some good top water rats or mice or something to fish on top of the cover as well with this rod

braided, fused, or mono?
hey hows it going? so im going to be throwing on some cheap "angler" 8lb line on my new bps extreme bc reel tomorrow or the day after to practice with then then i get the hang of it ill be putting on my line that im going to fish with.. ive got some trilene xl 14lb.. im wondering if you guys would recomend using that or if you would use something like a braided berkley braided, fused, or should i just stick with mono? thanks in advance for any advice.

which of the cheap rods?
if i could have found an ugly stick that was a casting/trigger rod i would have deffinately got it but i couldnt find one in town anywhere though, all spinning rods. ive found a couple reviews on the internet for this intrepid rod and it sounds like it will be a good rod (for the price) the reviews i found were all good including one from field and stream, it was short but sweet. as for the rest, they might be from people who dont know the difference between garbage and gold. from what i read on this site here alot of these guys know what they are talking about so i believe this would be a better place to ask if anyone knows of this rod rather than some random reviews on some random site.. as long as it doesnt break on a cast or hookset or something dumb like that im sure it will be fine as i dont believe im experienced enough to really know the difference

which of the cheap rods?
so i went to pick up a rod today.. looked for some shimano rods but they were out of my price range.. the berkley lightning shock or whatever was only a 6' which i wasnt really wanting a 6' rod, the eagle gt was sold out, and the ugly sticks were all spinning rods where i want a casting/trigger rod. so i seen a shakespeare "intrepid titanium" for $40 so i thought what the heck and grabbed it. all i know is its a mh 6'6" im7 graphite rod.. wont get to use it until tomorrow or wednesday but for all i know its a garbage rod that was discontinued years ago.. p.s. the money i saved on the rod went into a bunch of spinnerbaits and other lures.

those are all very impressive, im glad im not one who has to judge.

which of the cheap rods?
that is a very good selling point on the ugly stik lite.. so far out of the 3 originals ive heard ugly stik lite has decent backbone and i wont wreck it.. sensitivity on it might not be so great... that berkley lightning rod or whatever ive heard was good sensitivity and backbone for the price.. and the eagle gt ive heard is just a nice rod all around for the price.. the durability of the ugly stick will come in handy because if im out witht my two yr old son and he get a fish or anything like that my rod is getting dropped and im running to help him out.. or if i get a fish i will let him bring it in or help bring it in and if when hes reeling it in if he accidently hits the tip on the ground or something im worry free.. as much as i would like to get a nicer graphite like the eagle i dont want to tell him "no you cant touch my rod" (even though its still cheap)

which of the cheap rods?
right on, thanks.. im pretty sure that eagle gt has 5 yr warranty as well.. as for the convergance i just looked it up.. im assuming they are a good rod as well? the one site has it listed at $50.. i will deffinately take a look and see if they have any in the local shops around here.

which of the cheap rods?
hello to all.. im new here and just getting into bass this year.. usually im either trolling on a lake or flyfishing. ive got a bass pro shops extreme reel that should be here any day now and im looking for a rod.. im on a very low budget due to just finishing school and still being laid off and trying to support a family.. ive been looking at an ugly stik lite, berkley shock lightning rod with the amp tip or whatever it is. and last a fenwick eagle gt. they are around the same price range. i preferre not to order online as i do not want to wait another two weeks to try my new reel so these are the options ive narrowed it down to here locally.. what would be your choice and why? thank you in advance.
