  1. i just bought some of that tracer braid today actually but due to a bad thunderstorm i didnt get to try it. i like the fact that its a radial braid or whatever they call it.. i didnt want a flat braid.. anyways if you get to try it post what you think and if i get mine on and try it (hopfully tomorrow) ill post what i think.
  2. thats a nice one! now i have to ask, what is the weight of that monster in your display pic???
  3. stryk9 that sounds like a great idea. ill be waiting.
  4. ive got some trilene xl 14# but i havnt put it on yet. ive got garbage 8lb on it until im comfortable with my casting. anyways maybe instead of the xl ill try out that transoptic..
  5. have you guys heard of or tried the new colour changing line from berkley?
  6. are you talking about those "superline rods" the lightning shock or whatever? if so ive heard alot of good stuff about them, it was actually the rod i was kinda wanting to get but the only ones around here were a 6' and i wanted between a 6'6"-7'
  7. im using 8lb line.. and its that "angler" brand as well, i believe its the cheapest garbage line there is.. just the other day i brought in 6-8 lm bass that im guessing were in the 4-5.5 lb range.. on my spinning setup ive brought in a few bass and trout around 1-3 lbs as well.. havnt lost one yet.. im not dragging them through heavy cover though and ive got my drag set fairly light though too. the bigger or harder fighting ones can run with the line a little bit but i find that alot more fun and exciting, im not the kinda guy who just reels straight the fishing straight in. ive seen a few guys who just reel it in as fast as they can and that just isnt nearly as much fun.. at least in my opinion anyways.
  8. you know im often thinking to myself "what the heck is wrong with me" ive always wanted to try sturgeon fishing but never have. myself im originally from creston, british columbia. creston is at the end of kootenay lake which has alot of sturgeon in it, the record pulled out of there was 770lbs i believe.. on top of that people used to pull them out of the kootenay river which was right below my house! now to make myself sound like even more of an idiot creston is also the home of duck lake which many say is one of the best largemouth lakes in bc if not canada!!! i have never fished that lake, not even once!!
  9. you know, ive always worked in a shop and always worked with my hands so i had good motor skills but the last year and a half ive been welding and ive noticed a significant drop in my ability to do things with my hands as good as i used to as i welding i just hold a stinger all day. with that being said i tried that palomar knot and got it first try with relitive ease so ya, thats deffinately saying something about how easy they are haha.. i was going to try that trilene knot too but figured that both knots held up good in their head to head battle but only the palomar is good for braid so just stick with that one.
  10. thanks guys. i bought this $4 dvd the other day and it is titled "bass 1-2 punch" with dave mercer. on this dvd he fishes "the slop" with a mouse and if one hits it but the hook doesnt set or whatever he throws in a worm right after and bang.. works almost all of the time. i tried that yesterday, if i saw one that wasnt really going for the spinnerbait i would immediatedly toss a skitterpop and work my magic with it... it worked d**n good, i hooked a monster and gave the rod to my little brother to bring in and that fished jumped high out of the water about 3 times then he lost it right at the boat. (i didnt set the hook too good and he was not quite brave enough to grab it. i would have but we were in a canoe so i didnt want to jump up to him) anyways ya the 1-2 punch worked good.
  11. if you havnt already you can check that link posted above.. i didnt watch all the bends but it might have one in there that fits your needs.
  12. you betcha it is, my new bps extreme too.. you know ive heard and read "it doesnt matter what rod, reel, line, or lure, if you have confidence in it, it will work" well let me tell you ive fished that lake on days that were hot, cool, and once where it had light rain for a short period of time and only caught two bass under 2 lbs, probably 1.5. lbs was the biggest and yesteray i went out on a cold rainy day with only short periods of sun here and there. i was thinking that fishing would be really bad because of the weather but i went out soo confident in my new setup i guess you could say i went out cocky as a peacock and wow!! that pic wasnt the biggest of the day only the first.. there were quite a few more like that later on.. (not 43 throughout the day like some but good for me) anyways what a good day of fishing. i think now im going to have to be one of those superstitious fisherman now believe that confidence in your gear goes a long way.
  13. hmm.. thank you, i noticed today there were times where i think i tried to put a little too much on it.. i had some that were no were near where i wanted and then quite a few where i was like "wow did you see that?" haha i cant wait until i master the art...
  14. ya its quite hard to tell by pictures.. i wish i weighed it but when i saw all the little ones swimming around i was in a rush to let it get back home to guard the nest.. ive noticed in pictires people holding the fish WAY infront of them to make it look bigger haha.. here i was holding it probably 12-15" infront of me.
  15. well i kinda feel bad for not taking all the advice of practicing in the yard for awhile.. i think i got maybe 10 casts out and just couldnt handle it anymore, i went to the lake.. and i think i did good, got quite a few backlashes that were very minor and one that was bad but was still saved will relitive ease.. i thank everyone again for the tips and advice. i still need alot of practice but im happy with how well im going with heavier spinnerbaits and swimbaits but not so well with the lighter stuff.. im not really casting too far but far enough to get my fish...
  16. kingfisher85 posted a topic in Fishing Reports
so as some of from my other topics i am just starting bass fishing and have only caught two that were pretty small... i mean 13" tops and maybe.... 1.5lbs?? not sure.. anyways as some of you know i also just got my birst baitcast reel.. i only threw a few practice casts in the yard then went straight to the lake.. i just couldnt wait! haha.. anyways went out today and it was cold and raining for most of the day but man was it ever a good day.. it started out something like this... (see pic) anyways that was the first fish.. and there were around 6-8 around the same size.. a few were a little bigger some a little smaller. anyways when i got that one another came out after it and it was even bigger but im sure they were guarding their nest or babies becaues there were alot of little fryes or whatever there so i tried to get it back into the water asap and didnt get any measurements.. does anyone have an educated guess as to the weight?
  17. well ive got it setup... and yup ive got a few backlashes haha.. none of them were deep though i would leave the spool free and back up 5-10' slowly and thats all there was for the mess.. i put about a half ounce weight on it and when i can see when the weight almost hits the ground i do suprisingly well.. but all the times i can see when its about to land is when i have the problems.. i can see ill have to work on getting a more gradual smooth stop with my thumb but it will come in time.
  18. right on.. looking at the rod and feeling the rod everything seem nice although the rod has titanium inserts on the guides and i have to say they were a little sloppy with the glue there.. other than that looking at how the guides are wrapped on the rod and the other little things seem to be good..
  19. well i tied my first palomar knot today and im sure i did it right!! haha thanks again guys.
  20. thank you guys very much for the tips.. i cant imagine the mess id have on my hands without all the tips and advince ive gathered.
  21. awesome, thanks guys.. the reel will be here in a couple hours, i cant wait to spool it up and see how i do..
  22. thanks, i hope so too.. you have the shakespeare intrepid as well?
  23. thanks for all the information and links.. ive added knot wars to my favorites.
  24. so im going to be learning how to use a baitcasting reel and i understand there is alot to learn and alot of practice ahead. ive got some good information on the setup but im now wondering about when i get past the "backyard stage" have you guys often experienced times where you are snagged and reef on your rod to free the hook but when it lets go it goes flying? or in the middle of a good fight had a fish throw the hook? if so can these types of situations cause a backlash? do you guys always keep your thumb on the spool, even when reeling in? any information is appreaciated, thank you.
  25. im kinda dissapointed with the lack of options in this town.. only reason for not ordering a rod is because ive been itching to get out with this new reel and didnt want to wait another couple weeks for the rod.. now that ive got this cheap rod ill see how it feels and use it until i get a better one.
